Title: Question on wood for bow?
Post by: pintail_drake2004 on July 20, 2007, 04:11:00 PM
Hey yall, i have a couple of trees that need to come down, and i was wondering if they would be suitable for bow woods.? one is an apple tree (Malus pumila), a Hawthorn (Crataegus spp.) the other is a Boxelder (Acer negundo). I know they prolly aint the best woods, but i have my eye on a couple hedge trees in the area and i also have a dozen hickory billets that have been drying for 3-5years.
I was just asking, if they are not good bow woods they will be cut and used for fire wood.
Thanks
Pintail

The apple and Hawthorn should both be good bow wood. I have never used either but have read that most fruit and nut trees will make good bows.   Pat
