Well, we all know that the multi-talented Mr Dunn is a model for the Cheer leading industry, a part time comedian, Grandfather, and now he's a Famous Bowyer. You guys can get the whole story in the latest addition of Primitive Archer Magazine. Looks like Bern is the latest up-n-coming Bowyer. Congrats on placing in the bow contest Bern! Good for you! I'm glad to see you continuing to pursuit difficult tasks such as Bowyery. Congrats again! CK
Wow - this is a thing to see in the first slot as I opened Tradgang just now. Thanks for the heads-up and the kind words, Curtis. Haven't got my copy yet, and had no idea 2nd place would get in. Of Course, as I said, it was an honor to be beat by Gordon F. I love his bows.
I really love the bowyering thing. Even as we speak I am doing the finish on the Sister glue-up to mine that my mentor Mike Brooks made into a fine, quick bow (but with a Bamboo backing and Purpleheart in the riser). He told me I shot it better than him (I doubt it, but it did behave well for me) so to take it home and sand and finish it - LOL - It's coming out "Purty" and was already sweet. He also has started me on my first Osage stave (a pretty stave that I hope I can do justice to). Thank you, Mike, for refusing to hear that I was too old to start a(nother) new hobby, and thanks again, Curtis.
("Superhero," huh? Yeah, me and "UnderDog", or perhaps the Travelocity Gnome - LOL)
Congrats Bernie!  :notworthy: <><

Well done Bernie! Yoda'n good!
Congrat's to you Bernie :D :bigsmyl:
I'm kinda new at this trad stuff and don't post here all that often. And to date, haven't had the pleasure of meeting you.
I just wanted to let you know that not only are you an inspiration to the many whom have come to know you personally, but also, to some of us whom have yet to experience that distinct honor.
You are a fine example of a human being with all you do for St. Judes, the ATAR kids, and children in general. And you a wonderful Ambassador for this sport & hobby that we all love so dearly.
If all of us could be half the person you are, at any age, this world would be a much better place for all.
Thank You for all that you do, and congrats again on your bow, it couldn't have happened to a more deserving person. WELL DONE! :bigsmyl: :D
YB
Just so you guys know!
Bernie was one of the first traditional archers I came to know while stationed in NC, back in early 2000, or 2001 (the years are running together) I was just getting started in traditional archery, and Bernie was more than gracious enough to steer me in the right direction. He went out of his way to help me out with few "string" issues I was having, and invited me to a few trad shoots. Well the seed took root, and I am now compound free. I still have the longbow I bought from that little shop Bernie hung out in. I don't shoot it much, but it got me hooked, so I keep er around. Oh and BTW Bernie, I'm makin my own strings these days:)
Boy Bernie I can remember emails from you about certains bows you had on order or were shooting. Now your making your own. Congratulations Bud, I wish you all the success in the world. I hope to follow in your footsteps someday, and also build a bow.
Bernie You should come to Denton Hill this year! Get away from that NC heat for awhile.

Thanks so much to all of you. Bill, pretty farm you're at in your Bio - thanks for the oh, so kind words. Chuck, good to hear from you again and to see you on here. Stick around - you'll like it. You'll be interested to know that the Mike Brooks I mentioned is a retired Corpsman who settled in Swansboro (Chuck is a corpsman also).
It's such a pleasure to see all of you responding so favorably to this thread. (VTm, I caught that Yoda thing - ;) )

Bless your heart, Stickbow98 - I forgot about my Wingbone turkey calls, and Killie has one of those (which I've got about 3 or 4 more I have to get busy on too) - and that reminds me that Frank got me to sign my (his) Bear skull he bought on the first St. Jude Auction too - LOL, so much for my memory, Killie, and yours too ;) .
Did you get your magazine yet?
I just noticed that you're on page 40...and that you are, THE CENTER of the magazine.
Well, you were almost a centerfold! :bigsmyl:

Bernie has been my hero ever since I met him. He is a true gentleman and we are lucky to have him here to share. Bernie, when you get done with that bow you can give me some lessons. Tom
LOL, Woodduck - when yer right, yer right (I like this kind of centerfold better, I must say.)
I did get my magazine and what a surprise and pleasant feeling - even after Curtis' heads-up. They (PA) gave me a Runner-up spread just like a Winner's spread - never expected that. Nice comments, and Gordon, bless his heart, even wanted to give me his award. No way, Gordon my friend, but what a nice gesture. You are a Winner in lots more ways than just bows. Thank you Primitive Archer, for the ongoing competitions, and for my Special Mention.
Tom, thank you so much. That's something coming from a fine person, and retired defender of our safty here on the "Home Front" (Police Officer). I feel deeply honored.
