All these were made from files, I think I could have taken better pics but this will have to do.

Impressive. If you ever want to find a new home for one let me know ,they look like pig skinners for sure.RC
WOWZERS! Mike you are all talent! It's pics like this that show me how far I have to go. No Kidding those are awesome!<><
Never knowing what the steel is in the files, I usually just work with steels I know the quenching & tempering parameters. With that said, I have enjoyed forging a few with the file makes left in them. Here's a little neck knife...though nowhere near as pretty as yours nockhunter. Doc

I've also made a couple out of files. The older the files the better. Newer ones are case hardened and won't make a good knife.
I like to use nicklson files, I think they are 1095 steel. Stay away from the China files.
Thanks for the compliments.
Mike
I really like that Tanto! What wood did you use for the handle and sheath? Maple?
WOW very nice :0)
Mighty nice indeed. I've recently begun experimenting with making knives from files.
So far, all I've managed to do is ruin my magnet.... :banghead:
Doc that is a stunning skinner. You guys amaze me with your talent. Whats the recipe for heating a file?<><
Hey doc I just noticed that blade has a S on it. That stand for Sticshooter's? :bigsmyl: :bigsmyl: <><
I don't like knives, as everyone knows
I love them!
Very nice work. You are a very talented man.
Hey Frank, I know one that does have your name on it. :bigsmyl: ;) ;)

Whoa,I'm planning on making some.Did you cut the blades out with a dremmel tool?Thats what I'm planning on cutting my blades out of.
real awesome knives
The tanto blade knife is maple I got from Home Depot, just ordinary maple in the rack. I rough cut the anealed files with a power shear. Then I used a belt sander to get a rough outline and rough shape then into the heat treat. The pic makes the blades look dull, they are very shiny.

Mike, Great looking knives. I REALLY like that tanto blade. Excellent work.
Where in upstate are you? I'm in the Syracuse area.

I live in North Chili, it's just west of Rochester.
