Title: Tree Sharks- WOW!!!!
Post by: indianalongbowshooter on July 18, 2007, 03:11:00 PM
Just got a pack each of the screw in and glue on Tree Sharks and have to say they are wicked. They are also the easiest heads to get to spin true  Ive ever put on a shaft, didnt have to fiddle with them at all, stuck them on my Cedars and no matter which way I turned them they spun perfect, aluminums the same way, tried 6 different size shafts and they all spun perfect.
I shot broadhead target 4 times in the basement at 10 yds. in the same place and they cut a hole big enough to stick your fist in, could ruin a 3-D target real quick with these, cant wait to try them on a deer, looks like they might replace my 160 gr. Snuffers....

Jeff, look up Simmons Archery, you can see pics there, they are a full 2 in. wide, make a 160 gr. Snuffer look small. If you cant find it Ill post pics later for comparison...

Ron,

Do they come in a 4 blade? What are your personal thoughts on the best or better broadheads? What do you personally use?

Thanks, Peter

The screw in come in either 2 or 4 blade...maybe James Wrenn will post pics again of the damage they do, looks like a meat cleaver was used instead of a broadhead.

James Wrenn uses bows in the lows fortys if I am not mistaken. Maybe he will chime in.

Damn! I finally get settled on using Woodsmans and now I'm looking into 4 bladed Simmons heads! Anybody feel my pain?

Peter, I feel your pain. I too had settled on another broadhead until I shot the 190 grain intercepters. The fly like field points. Hopefully I will be able to put one thru a deer this year.

Once you learn to sharpen the Simmons heads, you can stop looking for the perfect broadhead.  Of course, I'm speaking of the 1 9/16" heads and larger.

I don't believe in cutting a small hole.

Every single Simmons head I've ever screwed on my arrows spun perfectly true...I can't say that about ANY other broadhead.

I've usually got a 190 Interceptor with bleeder or Treeshark with bleeder in my quiver. Both cut an absolute canyon through an animal.

Here's a pic of the big Treeshark without the bleeder...looks like a meat cleaver!

Last year I lost a bird after making what I thought was a good hit with a 3 blade head. Using the Tree Shark this year it was a drop and flop.   :knothead:

Well I am deer hunting with a 40lb bow this year.I dropped bow weight some but am not dropping my treesharks.  :)  I will use the smaller tigersharks out of my heavier 41 lb bow for hogs but do think I would still be fine with the treeshark but got more tigersharks.  ;)

So how hard are these things to sharpen?  I was on the same boat as someone else around here saying they were looking at the Wensels, but after seeing this head and seeing the weight i need I am very interested.  How do they sharpen.  Can you do it with a file or do you need to know how to work the wheel thingy?
RON if you can elaborate on this a little Im sure if they turn out to be easy to sharpen Ill be in contact on getting some very soon.

Here is a link to a previous article where JC explains sharpening the heads with the Simmons washer sharpener. I have used a razor rake to sharpen mine and it was easy.

Dustin, a half round file or the Wheelie sharpener work fine. Here they are at the bottom of the page.

While I love these broadheads, you might want to keep a few arrows with smaller broadheads in your quiver if it is windy up there. I don't know how these things would be in a cross breeze  :scared:

JC do those 190's come as a screw-in or did you install adaptors,,, and if you did they must be the shorts right?????

I saw those heads today, and shot it too. It looks like a harpoon getting a toss down. They were awsome. Thanks again Dean for letting me shoot those new toys of yours. It reminds me of what I am missing, but as you heard and saw of my hand you can see why I like to take the easy road lately. Those heads are huge though!

Beachbowhunter,  I have not had a problem with any of the sharks planing in a cross breeze.  Just make sure your bow/broadhead combo is tuned correctly.

whats the cammo shaft?

I second everything Beachbowhunter said above. Winds up north can be much more of an issue than in Ohio... not that it isn't windy in Ohio.  ;)

Ted, they come in @ 190 right out of the package as a screw in head. Actually, they are much closer to 200 and a bit over with the bleeder installed.

Justin, the camo shaft is the Carbon Express Terminator hunter, now sadly discontinued...but I have a fairly decent supply. Toughest shaft I've ever used.

I haven't had any issue with them planing, but Beachy does offer excellent advice. Good luck on the caribou.

One thing to remember, the screw in head is technically a "barbed" head and is outlawed in many areas. If you look at mine and Ron's pictures, you can see the differences between the glue/screw in. In those areas where you might run into such issues, I'd recommend the glue on with an insert.

JC, I do not know if you knew this but you can buy the Termenator Shafts still at Cabela's in the "Bargain Cave" online!!  I am getting some myself...this is only while supplies last of course.

Joe, those are the terminator selects, only 10.6 gr/" at the 60/75. The ones I'm looking for are the Terminator Hunter Selects, 12gr/" at the 60/75. But thanks anyway....preshate you lookin out for me.

JC, the Walmart near me just started putting out hunting stuff. I got into the arrows before they were out of the boxes. I picked-up 9 of the CE Termintor Hunters 6075's, and will get a few more this week. They weigh 405 grains at 31 1/4", with the plastic vanes, nocks and inserts. They don't say "Select", but that puts them at your weight. I like these arrows. I got some last year, along with the 4560's, and 5060's. They are tough and fly straighter than I can shoot.

Anyone use them on moose?  Any reports on bone hits, ie ribs, shoulder blades? The 190s look like a dandy turkey BH.
