Title: Who shoots a 'Mohawk' longbow?? Take a look
Post by: suttoman on July 17, 2007, 09:03:00 AM
A friend in Australia who has ordered countless custom bows (many from the big-name boys) swears by these bows.

Most of his big-boy bows have come and gone and the one he usually grabs when heading out is his Mohawk.  I am thinking of trying one!

I have a bow on order (radical R/D non 'D' longbow) that should be here in a few weeks - after that I think the Mohawk will complete my stable.  They sound like an undiscovered gem.

I have been corresponding with Vince the bowyer and he is topnotch!  No pressure or expectations for an order - just a patient good bloke who answers all my questions.  Even ordering a bow down-under - he has a great money back if your not happy policy.  Can't beat that!

My friend said they are just a beatiful shooting sweet 'D' longbow.

I did a search on T/G and could not find much.  Any happy owners out there??

Oh yea lads - forgot to mention the price.  They are really affordable as well.  Natural timber risers with boo cores under clear glass and a choice of lamb's - all for $475!!!  My crumby old Martin Savannah cost more than that!$%^!!

Nice of you to use the forum to advertise your friends bows, no need to slam Martin bows. Many of us have shot and loved them for years.  Biff

Biff - He is not actually my friend - just a good bowyer who I have been liaising with.  It was my friend in Australia who told about Mohawk.

You are correct about the Savannah - it has a great following and many think it is a great bow.  I have written about my experience with my Savannah here before so I won't labour the fact -I must have got a dud.  I have also said many times that I really love my Vision - Martin do make great bows!!

Sutto - I'll bet your buddy is Gundy, isn't it? He just ordered a Mohawk.

Sutto...great looking bow.  Very reminiscent of a Robertson Purist, on of my favorites...maybe a bit wider limb profile.  Great price too.  Thanks for posting.

I don't know about the Savannah, but the Martin Vision is a rock solid bow and great deal (if you like the style of LB) and if you trap the limbs and thin the tips a bit, the venerable Bushmaster is a fantastic bow for the money.

Thanks Cutty nice comments!

You are half correct Two 'Arrows'!!  Gundy actually bought it second-hand off my mate Phil in Melbourne.  Phill wasn't particularly looking to sell it but Gundy shot it and loved it so much it was a 'gonna' - LOL

I think Phill has had at least three or four of these bows now if my memory serves me correctly.  That sais a lot for a bloke who has just about had every bow in the book!

Once my Turkey creek gets here in a few weeks I want to order one.

Associate Sponsor's are not listed, only full sponsors. Associate Sponsors can sell items in the "Sponsors Classifieds", if I have understood correctly.

I also bought a second hand Mohawk from Phill in Melbourne. It really is a great bow. I like the way it draws so smoothly and is almost silent upon release. You bearly notice the slight deflex/reflex when its strung, so it appears to have a classic 'Howard Hill' D shape, which I love. Its not the fastest bow in the world, but it does shoot a nice fast arrow. It's predictable and it shoots where you're looking. What more could you want?

I've bought heaps of bows over the years, but this one is probably my best yet.

Thanks Mick - I knew Phill had sold a couple of his Mohawks to his zealous mates.  I think Gundy is one of them so you must be the other.  I am glad you are enjoying!  Have you shot Phill's Turkey Creek yet?  I have one coming shortly so after that may be time for another bow!

SUtto:

Well here is a happy Mohawk owner. Just got mine from Vince this week. Took it to the range and was beyond impressed. Two piece 66" and 46@28" with Tonkin cane limbs and cocobolo riser.Came with a nice bow sock with two compartments to separate the pieces. Draws smooth, shoots fast and no discernible handshock. I was shooting out to 45-50 yards and was impressed with the cast, nice flat shooter. I am already thinking about my next one. Oh yeah, if all the cosmetics and performance aren't enough:  It took less that one month for delivery! Enjoy it while you can and before he gets "discovered." If I can find my camera when I finish unpacking I will try to post a few pics.
