Do you see any real changes..80's to now, with respect to trends, hunting styles, techniques ? and the like. A real change would have taken place in the early 70's I believe.
ChuckC
Those were much more than catalogs--lots of interesting stuff in them. I remember how I would drool and dream over my Bow Hut catalogs...Dave
See if you can find a Kittredge Keen-Kill in there.
Just wondering what one cost back then?????
Woodchucker, is a Keen-kill a broadhead sharpener? If so I still have one I bought back in 1973 to use. I still have one of his wooden nickels. I still have some of his DYI woodies and the booklet that told one how to make up wooden arrows. Good old days for sure, oh yes I had a chance to buy a Bear TD at the sportmans show in Chicago in 1972 for $150. It was a demo but had no marks on it. If we only knew what those bows would sell for in 35 years!!
Yes,The Keen-Kill was a combination broadhead sharpener/puller.
One of the guys at work gave me mine about 5-6 years ago,he said he found it in his Dad's toolbox.
Found one
Keen-Kill was $3.00
Warrior... check out page 7! :D

After comparing the two photos, it's pretty obvious that they are two different exposures... makes me wonder if I have that photo or if I gave it to the Bow Hut and never got it back. Hmmmmm?!
The taking of that bear makes for a pretty good story. ;)
Charlie
Would love to read about it..
Will have to wait until tomorrow in the P.M. Gotta get to bed and up early in the morning... road trip!
Charlie; Nice Pic, nice bear! how do ya tell what year the catalogue is?? I.m on the inside cover of one of his catalouges, also with a Bear.If i remember jim dougherty and midge Dandrige are also featured. How time flies! Kind of gives away my age. I think Joe Skipp is also in a catalogue with a Caribou and a Kittredge Bow. Always enjoyed dealing with Doug!!
Serg... I'll have to look through what I have. Right now I only have the 82-83 (date on the spine of the cover)and the 30th anniversary issue.
Seems like I remember seeing Joe Skipps pic on one of the sale papers. I have that somewhere too.
I'll start that story about the bear in the morning on a new thread.
Hopeing to get a 1958 Archery bible
I have a question to ask you guys. Did Doug Kittredge make recurve bows? It seems when I was younger around 8 or so I seem to recall my uncles talking about Kittredge bows or was it just too long ago and I was 8? Just curious.
I have a 77-78 Archers Bible/Doug Kittredge Bow Hut.they are neet to go through. Also have a Anderson 25th Anniversary catalog 1977. dont ask my age. Helo-- Doug had 3 recurves and one take down with what looks ilf conectors.
Hey, I have the 82-83 Kittredge too. Except for the prices, a lot of "our" stuff looks the same.
The bows with wheels are what have really changed.
Also have an Arizona Archery (or is it Arizona Arrows?) from the 80s. First time I remember seeing anything about FOC. Seemed like pretty radical technical stuff back then.
helo, I believe that Doug's bows were actually made by Damon Howatt. Howatt made bows for several large archery shops/mail order supply houses that had their own name put on them. I had a bow from East Side Archery in Chicago that they called the Nimrod TD, Jim Dougherty Archery called the same bow by a different name and Kittredge called it something else (at 66 my mind don't remember so good :o ). All the same bow however. Howatt sold it as the HTD (Howatt Take down) Those were great days, man.
LOL...I remember a dark haired Canadian posing with a large black bear in that Catalog...my O my...have we aged gracefully or what?
The one piece Kittredge I shot was the same blank that Jack Howard offered...same with the Kittredge T/D..based off Damon Howatt/Martin. Check out those Forgewood Battleshafts...I bought all mine in the Sky Blue color...
Kittredge and Herters catalogs were the best ever.
Have an Anderson Archery catalog from the late sixties/early seventies. Talk about great prices...
Here is my one piece Kittredge, 62" 55#...Schulz latigo backquiver, bunch of small game and stumpin arrows and one dead squirrel.

I still have one of those Klean Kill Broadhead sharpeners/pullers. I need to search through my hunting gear to find it. Its funny that you mentioned that because I was thinking of this tool last week and wondering where it is. Now I have to really search and find it.
I used to drool over the Chastain "Wapiti" which was, the enormous sum of (as I recall) $250.
MAN I REMEMBER DROOLING OVER THOSE CATALOG WHEN I WAS A KID BACK IN THE LATE SIXTIES. COULDN'T WAIT TO GET MY NEW BOWHUT, HERTERS AND BEAR CATALOGS. COOL READING NOW
Good thread, I can remember drooling over the that catalog along with the Bow Hut and Felines. And of course that Herters catalog had something for everyone!
Man! That brings back the memories. It drives home the reality of inflation, too. How'd you like to get today's paycheck and those prices? Wait a minute...the paychecks haven't changed much. Never mind. Grant
