Title: Javelina near San Antonio, Tx
Post by: rbbhunt on July 16, 2007, 05:01:00 PM
Looks like I will be in San Antonio Christmas week.  Is there any place I can hunt Javelina near there?  If possible, I would like to drive down in the morning, hunt and come back that day.  Maybe within a 2 hour drive of San Antonio.  And reasonably priced.  Thanks in advanced.

Email Curtis Kellar, goes by "LittleFeather" here. He is a sponser (7th age bowhunting), can probably help you out.

Thanks dog! I'd love to see you guys around Christmas. Thats during deer season so my ranch access is going to be somewhat limited unless we are hunting deer as well. I'd love to share camp with you guys. Mid-Winter is a time when I can sit around camp and chew the fat. I like that! If I can help just shoot me an email. If not, have a wonderful hunt wherever you decide to go.

The area near Dimebox would more than likely be the Somerville WMA...there are hogs there also.

Would it be a problem hunting javelina or hogs on public land during deer season without a deer tag?

rbbhunt, having hunted in this are a few times I would really recommend using Curtis Kellar. He has places that don't get pounded daily by other hunters. I have met and Curtis and hunted on one of his properties before and the man knows his stuff. He is also a GREAT host and has a desire for you to be successful. I have asked for the time off from work between Christmas and Jan 5th. and I am now waiting for approval.

CJP, I would rather go with Curtis than try it on my own.  You have some good points.  I have contacted him to see if something could be worked out.  I'll keep you posted.

PS, I have also heard good things about Curtis from other sources.

LOL! December 26 is my Birthday. I haven't missed hunting on my birthday since I was like 10 years old. I'd say I'm probably going to be hunting this year as well. It's my B-Day gift to me. I'd love to have someone to share camp with this year. Normally everyone is on Christmas holiday and I hunt solo. Maybe a few other fellas will join us and we;ll have a festive camp where we can sit and talk about the in-laws we had to endure over Christmas day.    :biglaugh:

Man I am in on that idea Curtis. I'll have my wife and mother in-law make the cake for your B-day. Since they are cajun I'll more than likely showup with a huge pot of Seafood Gumbo with a huge bottle of Tabasco. Makes for good huntin!!!!

If your looking to put a group of TradGangers together to hunt hogs in Texas and celebrate Curtis's B-Day after Christmas Ric O'Shay and I just might be able to join ya. We are located just south of Dallas. The only thing better then hunting hogs with a bow is eating them.

That would be great.  I am looking more for Javelina if possible within a couple of hour drive of San Antonio.  Or possibly a goat.  But I wouldn't turn down a chance to hunt hogs!  This may be a good get together!!!!

Bill, That would be great if you and Mr. Shay(  :p  ) would join us.

Cake with Tabasco and gumbo sounds quite Cajun. It would sound more Cajun if you threw in some adult beverage and some Zidaco music. Aaaheeeeeeee! CK

I talked to Curtis and it looks like the best hunt for 1 day out of San Antonio is for hogs.  Let me make sure my trip is finalized and I'll get in touch with you guys we'll plan a get together.

rbbhunt, are you only looking at a one day hunt or a 2-3 day hunt?

Right now, I think I can only get away for one day.  The better half and I need to discuss it some.
