I posted this same hunt on here last month when there was one slot left. That slot was filled thanks to Mr Bob Walker. The hunt is with Tuttulik Outfitters. There are now three more openings. I know that this is a very short notice but I would like to be able to recover the slots that I have already secured. The cost is $2600.00 so that I can recover some of the cost that has already been paid. Please contact me if you are intrested. The dates are Aug 30th - Sept 5th. Here is the link to this working mans hunt. http://www.tuttulik.com/rates-workingman.htm
I noticed on the website that caribou tags are not included. Do you know the cost of the tags?
Donald
Don since I have already taken care of this the tags are already paid for.
Cool. Man I am already getting excited. I can not wait. I know the drive will be long, but it will be worth it. Hey, do I need a passport? I hope I have time to get one back in time, Month should be no problem I would think. This is going to be sooooo much fun.
My Bro is going to be so jealous.
:bigsmyl: :biglaugh: :biglaugh:
Donald
Due to the Western Hemisphere Travel Inititive, you will need a passport. But the deadline has been extended, so proof of citizenship, ie certified birth certificate may work. Better get a passport though, but there is a big backlog and I do not know if you will get one in time. I HATE YOU!,LOL. Good luck. Might be cheaper to fly.
Danny
You won't need a passport untiul 1/8/08. Sfter that you will need either a passport or proof that you have applied for a passport. Of course if your flying you will need one now!
Come on Danny, join us. Donald, I sent in for my passport and paid the expedite fee and was told that there was 12 week backup. I got mine back in 3 weeks, but would have never expected that. Also if you apply for the passport you will need to send in your birth certificate. This could be an issue if you do not have the passport back by the time we leave. You will need that birth certificate as an official document in order to cross the border. Flying into Canada you will need a passport. Driving you will need a certified birth certificate to get across the border. Also, no hand guns are allowed into Canada I have been told.
So I guess this means we now have 2 openings left. We are really looking forward to filling the camp with Bow hunters and having a great time of hunting and fellowship.
Well I will go ahead and apply for one anyway. We are driving up.
Now I need to figure out which bow to take. I know what arrows I am taking, just need to decide on the bow. Blacktail or Morrison??? Maybe morrison since it is a little heavier poundage.
Will a 49# @ 28" be OK or would 53# be better. Never hunted caribou before. This has been one of my trad dream hunts along with moose. May get to go to Alaska for moose next year.
I am not going to be able to sleep for over a month now. I am so pumped
Donald
Donald, which ever one you shoot best will be the one to bring.
Take 2 tylenol PM and call it a night
Donald I shot plumb thru one and 30 yards out the other side with a 57# bow a few years back with a big ol snuffer on it. I wouldn't hesitate to use 48#. Which one do you shoot better?
Good advice Mickey
I shoot the Blacktail the best, so guess it gets to go. I love that bow, and it is the only curve I have. The other six are longbows. Thanks guys.
Donald
Chuck, sent you a PM.
If you have an old passport, and I know ya do, then you do not need to send the birth cert in for the new pp, just the old pp. Best to have the certified birth certificate on hand as backup. Good Luck!
Chuck, if I was on the mainland I would be coming in a heartbeat, but alas from Guam it is not possible right now.
Danny
Hey Bro, Just tell Julie you are coming now for a family emergancy. :bigsmyl: That way you could tell her she can stay home in Dec. cause you can not afford her ticket then. :biglaugh: :biglaugh:
Send pics after she gets through with you.ROTFLMAO. :jumper: :jumper:
I already have that time off and more... for elk in colo. Love elk huntin but want to try caribou someday. What a choice, elk - caribou - el-cari - carielk - elkaboo. Oh my. :knothead:
Hey bowdude, Quebec is closer than Colorado. :bigsmyl:
Chuck, for those of us who have never hunted Caribou / Canada before, would you give an overview of what we should expect ?
Climate, bugs, scouting, abundance of game, a must have gear list...
Eric, since this hunt will be taking place in far north country at the end of Aug. I would recommend cold weather clothes as well as good rain gear. My plan is since we are limited on 70lbs of gear to bring enough long unders to change daily and probably 2 to 3 outter camo suits. The outters can be worn multiple times. As far as bugs go, I dont go NO-WHERE without my Thermacell. Odds are I wont even use it. The weather up there can change drastically this time of year from one day to the next. I am expecting cooler temps. at that time but God only knows how it will turn out. As far as the game, most everyone that I know that has been there has been more than pleased at the amount of Caribou. One thing to remember though is we are hunting Caribou and I don't know anyone that can predict those nomads. I have heard stories of not being there one day and then hundreds of them the next. I hope this helps .
I have never hunted caribou in Quebec (only in Alaska) but quebec is similar only with more cover. I would expect the wind to blow all the time. I would expect it to rain some if not most of the time. I would expect to walk quite a bit on a fairly mushy surface so good waterproof boots would be a requirement. Turtleneck, several pairs of gloves, 2 pairs of socks for every day. A good rainsuit. A wool or insulated vest, at least one wool watchcap.
In Alaska the herd was also migratory up to a point (big territory to walk around in). For 3 days we saw literally thousands..then just like that they were gone. I have a friend that hunted Quebec that had the same thing only for the first 3 or 4 days all that came thru were cows and calves. Guys in his group panicked and filled there tags with cows. Last couple of days the bulls came thru. My buddy held out and killed 2 fine bulls however he was prepared to come home empty handed.
If your outfitter is willing to move you to where the critters are that's good. If not he's useless IMO.
Wow, this is a great opportunity and I'm sorely tempted. My boss at home left today on a mission trip to Alaska for a week and my boss at work gave me a bunch of crap today, to the point that I may quit. I have a Colorado hunt that starts on Sept. 4 and ends on Sept. 19, and after that I'm driving up to Montana to hunt elk and deer. The cost can't be beat and I'd love to make it a "September to remember". I can just imagine that conversation when I pick up my wife at the airport:
me: Welcome home. I have good news and bad news, which do you want first?
her: Uh...the good news?
me: I'm going caribou hunting with some Tradgangers! I already sent in the check to some guy in Woodstock, GA. It's OK though, I think he is a TBG member.
her: Oh....(icy stare)...then what's the bad news?
me: I told my boss to take his job and shove it. I quit last week! So, can I carry those bags, you look faint.
her: You're a dead man walking when I get my hands around your skinny red neck, you little ##^%$%^^&
Nakohe, you will need a passport if you are travelling by air (you don't if you drive through the border)
F-Manny
Hey Jeff, I want video of that conversation........ :bigsmyl:
David
Excuse my ignorance but what airport would be closet to fly into.Trying to do some quick research here. Thanks
Going with Tuttulik take good hiking hunting boots. Yes there are a few wet areas but mostly rocks everywear with brushy areas. I took a pair of rubber boots and a pair if waterproof hunting boots that I use in Colo. and the only time I put the rubber ones on was to wade to the float plane. First week of Sept last year 9 of us got 13 caribou, all with trad gear. Bugs were non-existent at that time and it was warmer than we wanted as I hunted in a long sleeve t-shirt 3 days. Weather can change in a hurry so be prepared. Good luck. Boney can give you a list to pack with.
Hey Hill Boy I will be driving up and meeting the rest of the gang in Nashville. You can ride with me and share gas if you want.
Donald
nakohe, thats a mighty considerate offer.Do you think the pass port will be a problem? Those pack of wolves that raised me didn't keep very good records.Im thinking I need to do this deal!
Don, I got an email from chuck. My hi dollar net is acting up.I'll contact you email, tomorrow.Considering your location we have a lot of options.
Hill Boy,
All you will need to cross the border driving is a certified birth cirtificate. Course if you have a passport that will work too.
Donald
We now have only one opening left. Nakohe and Hill Boy have confirmed that they are in. Nakohe I live about 4-5 hours from Nashville. You will probably want to leave out that Monday morning.
Man, This is killing me. I had to pass on this hunt cause I need some roto-routing on my knee (from this past years TX Sweat). What a great group of arrow slingers going!
As to pass ports, for the Quebec Bear Hunt all we needed were current US Drivers Licenses with photo ID. Next year supposedly a pass port but they waved that this year too! I expect to see lots of pictures & stories. Good Luck...Doc
Doc, I wish you were going with us as well but I understand about that knee. Get that taken care of and re-hab patiently and get back after it.
Man Doc I wish you were going too, but get that knee taken care of. I am going to check on a hunt like this next year for moose in Alaska. I will post what I find out. I know a guy who used to live and guide in Alaska for moose. He still goes once a year and takes a group up pretty cheap. A lot less than through some one up there anyway. I will find out the prices and post later in the year to see if anyone is interested.
Donald
:readit: Ya did read that part about hill boy going didn ya :bigsmyl:
looking forward to having you join us Hill Boy
Here is a little trick I was given when I went on my first trip... since you are limited to 70 pounds of gear....
Wear multiple layers of clothing and stuff your pockets with some of the stuff that you absolutely need but weighs a bit...
I was actually able to pick up about 5-7 pounds of "stuff" that was able to now go in my bag.
YEAH, you look funny getting on the plane, and yeah the pilots all know the trick... but it works...
some one else needs to jump on this deal. The way i look at it.Were not getting any younger and these hunts are not getting any cheaper. This is a great buy and has the research and arrangements already done.I can't quit grinning or talking about it.This is going to be good. :bigsmyl: Ok I'll shut up now!wonder if those caribou have ever seen a screaming arrow out of a morrison shawnee?Speaking of bob i better give him a rang.
If anyone wants to go and cannot figure how to do it, I can probably fit one more in my truck. Just me and Hill Boy and we could use some company. Anyone around DFW or Arkansas area that can swing it and needs a ride we would be glad to have ya.
Chuck - just sent you a PM.
Phil got it
guys , i am Canadian and was across the border on Sat so they have a long list they ask at the border so here are the main thing to declare ( your bow ,yup considered a weapon ) no pepper spray or mace don't know now if you can bring in a can labled bear spray or not better to leave it home .figure if i am close enough to us bear spray i will be loosing arrows and messing my pants .
NO HANDGUNS , if rifles or shot guns there is paper work and probably a fee . love being a bowhunter.
probably no jerky unless commercial stuff .
sure would love to be coming with you , maybe you all need a translater to translate from southern to Canuck ---- herb :bigsmyl: you all have fun and welcome to Canada
Does anyone know if there are alot of bears, wolves that kind of scary creature roaming these parts?
I do not think there are any bears that far north, maybe a few wolves.
The only scary creatures are the Bearded Ladies!!!! BE VERY CAREFUL OF THEM!! LOL!!!
Sounds like you guys are going to have a grand time.
guys only bear are barren ground Grizzlys and you don't kill one of those !!!!! better to have one do you in LOL .
i know of one artical that G Fred or Don Thomas wrote a couple of years ago about one of their hunts on the barren gounds the outfitter was having bear problem bear kept breaking into the shed they keep the meat in .
don't think you will even see a track let alone a bear , but you never know , that is what makes it exciting  --- herb
your right carbon caster that is scary :scared:
There are Black Bears up there. Black Bear tags are available.
Nakohe, if I could get you to swing by Wyoming I might go. That's about as cheap as it gets. Went in '99 I think through Boney and had a great hunt.
There are black bears for sure. One broke in the meat shack and stole a friends head and hind quarter.
CJP what camp is it?
Just a bit out of the way there Barney. LOL
going through into Canada is very easy for bowhunters....just hand the guy at the drive up window your passport or drivers license...tell them where you are going...and if you don't look nervous or like you are smuggling drugs I feel confident you can get right through..
Coming back you just declare your meat and capes..and whatever you buy at the duty free shop before you come back through....not a big deal. Unless you look like the unabomber you probably are nOT going to be physically checked.
It's Canada for goodness sake...not Khazakstan.
AMEN Ray
Barney, I believe that we are staying at Cap.
Chuck, has anyone shown any interest in the last slot yet?
I have had several folks ask questions about it but nothing definate yet.
Gang, we have one opening left and it is getting real close to our deadline for filling this slot. everything has to be turned in by July 30th. If anyone is thinking on joining us on this hunt please solidify your decision within the next few days. Thanks C.J.
I'm very, very interested in coming over for this hunt, but I'm a little stuck as to which airport I can get into. The only flights available from England are into Montreal. Is anyone passing through Montreal or could anyone give me info on flights from there to Radisson?
I'd reaaly like to jump in on this, if at all feasible.
You might want to just google air travel Radisson Quebec and see what comes up Rob..I bet it will...you may also look at Air Canada and Inuit Air to see if they fly into/out of Radisson.
Rob, we'd love to have you join us.
Well, I can't find any information about flights to Radisson. I've searched Inuit & Air Canada & the best I can do is get a flight to Montreal. I can't even find any info regarding connections from Montreal to Radisson! You'd think the place didn't exist!
What's t driving time like between Montreal & Radisson? I'll look into car rental if it's possible (& not too expensive!)
How's everyone from the US getting there? It may be easier to fly into the US & then connect to Radisson. Not sure.....
Rob, if you can fly into Nashville Tenn. you could join us there and ride up with us.
You're NEVER driving all the way from TN are you?!?!?!
Rob, Inuit Air flies to and from Radisson EVERY DAY. Let me try to assist you.
Rob, we are driving from Woodstock Ga all the way to Radisson. If Ray can locate the flight for you that will be the way to go. Lets see what he can come up with.
http://www.airinuit.com/en/index.php
The FLIGHT SCHEDULE shows a PDF document and the airport is not listed as RADISSON, it shows the name La Grande...It is under the Hudson Coast (that's the Hudson Bay area) You should fly there I think, rather than toward the South, as I believe it will cost less, be less trouble going through customs as only England and Canada would be involved for you instead of trying to travel from Britian, to the US, then travel across borders to Canada, back to US, then fly back to England..you might look like a bad guy doing that, I think.
Aaahhhhh! Thanks Ray! No wonder I couldn't find it
Just took a look at prices & schedules & I don't think I'm gonna be able to do it :( £1002 (that's $2000!!!) to get there! Why the hell do I have to live in the most expensive country in the world :( :( :(
It's just ridiculous. Anyonecan get into the UK, they just don't seem to want any of us to leave!
Ah well. Maybe next time. Thanks for the help guys.
Gang, I just got off of the phone with the outfitter and we have to call it full as of today. He is leaving into the village in 7 days and needs everything by then. Rob thanks for trying you were the last hope of filling the camp. Hopefully one day we can share a camp together and enjoy a hunt. To all of the guys that ae going you will be receiving an email from me today with instructions for getting your information to the outfitter. Thanks to all and now its just the wait, and then the hunt, and stories to follow.
