I went for a ride last night around my block just before dark. I saw 3 groups of bucks totaling 16, of which only 5 looked like 1 1/2 scrub bucks. The other 11 were all outside their ears including one absolute PIG of a buck that was easily twice as wide as his ears and as tall as he is wide, and they still have a month plus of growth to go. I'm pretty sure he's the same one I found the shed off of last year that we scored around 150. I know the reality of it is that I will probably never see that buck come season. He and the others don't get that big by being stupid, but it certainly got my blood boiling for October! :)
Did you notice my name tag on it?
Still, it's nice knowing he's out there Brent. It just takes one mistake on his part to make your year.
bobby, bobby, bobby..... you and I both know that even if you saw that buck across the field you would A, wet yourself, B shoot yourself in the foot, and C fall out of the tree. I'd walk up to you curled up on the ground sucking your thumb and I wouldn't even need to ask.... :jumper:
Man the love....lol. I have a few nice ones running around here too. Makes it easy to stay in the stand longer. If you need help....lol.
Just knowing bucks like those are around is what keep us in the stands-all day if necessary.
WOW! Just to see that many deer has to get you all wired up for the hunting season. And a nice buck to boot! My season kinda looks good too. Been getting reports of lots of black bears hanging around my house upstate NY. Even had muddy foot prints on the back deck.
Just like you said Brent.....
A- See Bear On Your Deck; Pee Yourself!
B- Run To Get Bow and Arrows; Fall Down The Stairs Putting Broadhead Into Your Foot!
C- Cry Like A Mary Boy Cause It Was Only A Dream Anyway! :D (except for peeing on yourself)
... mike ...
Maby I'm getting optimistic or just more wishful thinking but a lot of big bucks make mistakes every year, and it just takes one hot good looking doe!And that big buck will be peeing on his self letting some one dig broadheads out of him.hopefully bbasi
Man ya should leave the big Bucks alone so they can breed more big bucks. The littler ones is better eating anyways.
I always go for the unusual or smaller bucks. weed the gene pool some.

Ya know, so many comments are running through my head right now.... but this is a family site so I'll leave that one alone. :)
The wife and I took a drive last night before dark and although we didn't see either of the previous groups, we did see another group of 3 mature bucks on the next road over. I'd guess this group was 2 - 2 1/2 and 1 3 1/2. The blocks around here are about 10 square miles each (2x5) so that would make 14 mature bucks per 20 square miles, and I know we haven't seen them all. Too many hidden fields around here.
They are showing up all over around here, all the alfalfa is a big draw to them. Wait till the first frost hits, after that they seem to vanish
