Since videoing and watching Masters Of The Barebow 1, I've noticed an improvement in my shooting. I put to use tips from all the shooters. Rod Jenkin's gap system really refined my own aiming technique. We've become good friends and I've gotten some great phone coaching from Rod that helped me a lot! Thanks Rod, you are a true champion.
Anyone else inspired by watching these shooters?
Darryl is working on Volume 2 right now.
Here is the DVD jacket - it is still a work in progress.

Heck yes! Especially Rod.
Any estimate of when it will be available?
Man I cant wait for the second one to come out. I think I took a little something from all the shooters on the first video. Everytime I find myself starting to loose form or anything like that I go pop the video in and watch the pros go through the steps again. I enjoy checking out all the different styles there are. Keep up the good work Denny and Darryl.
Denny, do you guys have a E.T.A. on the 2nd video yet?
Man I really need to learn to type faster.
How do you get a copy of the first one guys...i could definately use some help on a consistant form. Kirk
denny i get inspired by lots of these videos some of them old like "the moment of truth" watched it last night lol
I really liked the Dale Karch and Dean Torges spots. Dean shoots alot like me, and Dale...Wow; that old boy can shoot!
BD
I got some help from it as well on a couple different things that were causing my groups to widen.
I also get myself back on track reading Terry Green's stuff here, on the Shooter's Forum. He's got some good ideas and little tips I use when I start getting inconsistent results.
yessiree! I found that Dale Karch's style of release has improved my shooting a bit. It's kind of a refinement of my previous style, and works great for me. Hey Denny any plans to include a Hill style bow in the new one....maybe?
Denny - I really enjoy the Masters Vol 1. I find I use a combination of the different techniques. Hold the bow like one, release like another etc etc. But each has something to add for everyone.
What I enjoy most is just watching them shoot even without commentary and watching the slow motion stuff.
Another thing I really liked was Trish explaining how she got into it and developed her shooting.
Would really like to see you shooting in the next one ..... enjoyed your dance moves and the out-takes. ;)
Good stuff Denny - As soon as Volume two comes out I will own that as well. I am like Gordy, I gleamed a little from everyone but I guess the two guys I gleamed the most from was Darryl & Mr. LaClair, the Michigan Mafia :D .
However I am even more anxious for you guys to do Vision Quest 2, that is one of my all time favorite hunting videos.
I must be really stupid, cause I didn't get Rod's method. It sure works well for him, and Trish. I very much enjoyed the DVD, and look forward to the next.
I agree.. By far I got the most from Rod Jenkins segment but the rest were great as well.
And you're right, Rod is a good fella.
Soon as Vol. II is out I'll have to get it as well..
Don't want to look stupid-but how can you get the first volume???
Archersteve, you can buy it off of 3 Rivers Archery site. I just bought one last week!
This is a good DVD with several different styles for many people instead of the cookie cutter style for everyone.
I feel like the Frankenstein Archer that will use all the good stuff, works for me with practice, from each of them.
Also, lets not forget about all of the valuable information we learn off of each other on this site! I know I picked up valuable information-keep up the great work.
I'll keep my eye on Volume II as well; I'd like to see some target archers on it as well. It was great to see the network show some of the Olympic Archers in competition during the summer games. Their shooting form was a piece of art work!
It really is a great video. I love the fact that the styles vary so much, but no one says "This is the way you should do it." Like many here, I have pulled bits from each. I actually think one of the most helpful parts of the video is at the end when it shows their misses. After watching them thump arrow after arrow into tiny groups, I was about ready to give up. Then when Dean made the perfect ass shot I thought "Hey, I've done that! If these guys can be as good as they are and still blow one once in a while, there just might be hope for me!"
Another tip that helped me was when Gene said he has trouble with plucking the string...boy is that me! I suddenly felt relief that I was not alone. These are truly great archers, yet they are subject to the same foibles as not-so-great archers like me. I have definitely improved my shooting by watching and watching and watching, etc. this video. Heck, I think I'll watch it again tonight, it's been a couple weeks. :archer:
If I lived near Rod Id be his new best friend! LOL...that man can shoot :wavey: :coffee:
I have truly enjoyed meeting and working with all the different shooters on this project. Each one has been interesting and, surprisingly, I've learned tips that have improved my shooting even from those who use a different method than I do. An open mind is a wonderful thing.
Vol. 2 will feature some target and tournament shooters that share some new insight on accuracy. It will also introduce some new faces that share their philosophy on archery and life. I'm in the editing stages now, but Vol 2 looks like it might be even better than Vol. 1.
Darryl
#1 is awsome! can't wait for #2
I think Rod's explanation of his shooting style was one of the best gap shooting how-t's I've ever seen. And his results speak for themselves.
Volume I was outstanding. I'm really looking forward to Volume II.
Ya,volume 1 was outstanding,learning is an endless process,can't wait to see volume2.
Serge
Great Videos. Thanks. I have really enjoyed watching it and my shooting has improved. I live near Ron LaClair and he got me started with a Tim Meigs longbow 15 years ago. Recently I was frustrated with my shooting. Especially after missing a buck last December. After reading on the other site about Pat L's switch back to the compound bow because he didn't have time between work and family.... I even dusted off my old PSE compound bow and put a wisker biscuit on it and bought some carbon arrows with blazers for it. Now I am back shooting my longbow and having a blast. My accuracy has really improved. Thanks for a great video.
Just wanted to thank both Denny and Darryl for putting the first one together. For a guy like me who picked up a bow on his own and was living 1 1/2 hours from the nearest archery shop, it really was an invaluable tool.
Is Larry Yein going to be one of the shooters in II? I can't wait to see a tourney LB shooter!
Thanks again.
Watched it again, then went out and shot. It worked, my groups were tight! I guess I probably shoot like a combination of Dale, Gene, Dean and Darryl (not that well of course).
I sure do admire Ron, but there is way too much thinking involved in gap shooting for me. I understand the concept, but I can't seem to make it work for me.
This has totally revolutionized shooting longbows for me. I have always been mediocre, having good days and bad. After watching Volumn I over and over I picked up several characteristics that have made me very consistant. Hurry up with Volumn II  .
Ken
I learned quite a bit from the video . I have to say watching ron laclair was the biggest help for me personally all of them were super on there and look forward to seeing #2 .
Denis,
I love MoBB 1.
Who will be shooting on MOBB?
Thanks
Martin
Denny & Darryl - I know this thread is about Masters of the Bare Bow, but are there any plans to do a volume 2 on Vision Quest? That is a great video!
Just food for thought...ya know what would be good a BH tunning DVD...half dozen shooter , wood carbon and alum arras...different cut on contact and weight BHs...love ur videos!!
I agree, terrific DVD, and can't wait for volume 2!
I enjoyed it, learned a bit, laughed a lot. It is a really well done production. Denny - stick to bowhunting and working the camera - you can't dance worth a darn! I got a real kick out of Dean "the perfect A#* shot" Torges. I was particularly impressed with Ron LaClair's and Terry Green's shooting abilities - IMPRESSIVE!
Keep up the good work
After watching the masters:
I tweaked my grip and anchor point. My attitude is more positive and relaxed. I still use the push/pull draw, but know what to lookout for. Alignment is better. Aiming is more concentrated and intense. I can fight off periods of panic. My equipment is tuned better. I can dance better.
And best of all - TURKEYS ARE EASY :)

We don't have plans to do another TVQ right now.

I tweaked my grip and anchor point.
So you've got an anchor point now?
QuoteI can fight off periods of panic
Even when I pull out the score cards? :readit: ... :goldtooth:
WOW! Seems like after shooting that chicken-sized bearded hen last spring Ron would be more humble. LOL :biglaugh:
I've always tried to be a humble person Denny, you must bring out the worst in me.
As far as my breaded hen...anyone can shoot one of those big Tom's, hens are smaller and harder to hit. :archer:
I really got a bunch out of the Video. My favorite pointer was when Ron described maintining the angle of the deep hook through to release. I started doing that instead of letting my fingers creep open and my anchor got even more confident, and back tension and release both became more consistent.
I also enjoyed seeing how all these veteran shooters use different approaches to achieve consistent accuracy.
Hey Ron, when is shrew III going to be ready?
Bill
ttt :bigsmyl:
hey ron are those "breaded" hens pre cooked???? The best thing I learned from the video is how not to keep arrows in my quiver.. lol
Denny,
I enjoyed volume 1 and looking forward to volume 2.
I would really like to see what these archers can do at unknown yardages with the FIRST arrow without a warm up.
Like many others the video has really improved my form and, within that, my target panic problems have decreased(not quite to where I want them, but close;). I took a little bit from each shooter. One of the biggest things that is really helping me is to maintain a deep hook on the string till release(Thanks Ron!). A couple other tips that are working for me are Roger Rothhaar's release, Daryl's anchor, and Dale's draw. Great video and I look forward to volume 2! Cheers, Matt
I have buddies come over to shoot the range. We take turns picking shots. They really hate it when I do the last "Terry Green" shot in the Tradgang add in the Supporters/outtakes section. LOL :)
denny where is terrys shot shown i couldnt find it
Keith...last section on the DVD.
Denny...your very welcome my friend!
I thought That was Denny standing in for Terry..LOL...ahhh I think thats what Ron said!!! :bigsmyl:  just funnin :clapper:
It was!! Terry filled in for me dancing around the campfire. :knothead:
You call that dancing? :bigsmyl:
Rod, It was pathetic :) The first time I watched the outtakes I thought who is that fat bastard jumping around? It really hurt when I realized it was me!
:readit:
Thanks again for your support and knowledge, it made a huge difference on my shooting in OZ.
I woulod like to thank you fellas for putting out the first one and am looking forward to number II as I alwasy enjoy watching good shots explian the methods behind their madness....
Denny just remember the camera adds 10 pounds and in Davids' case takes 3" off your height (sorry David)!!LOL
I haven't seen the video yet...are there any shooters with glasses in it? I'd like to hear their tips and see them shooting.
albertakid, I always heard the camera added 20 lbs. LOL I wish it added 30.
We had Dave stand on a stool for most of his presentation - NOT! LOL :)
I think Roger Rothhaar wears glasses.
Denny,
I got some photos from a shoot back awhile ago and wondered who the guy was shooting my bow!! Looked like he may have had a few too many bud lights over the winter!!LOL
And I don't believe the stool comment David would have built and brought his own!LOl
Jordan
Where do you get a copy of the film?....Please...
i could have sworn i posted this request already....Hmmmmm kinda makes a guy wonder...
Kirk, I've still got a few left.
