i will be holding the annual Adirondack Attack on October 6-13 this year. i will have a couple rooms, couches, floor space and land available to camp if needed. all ya need is a NY small or large game license depending on what you want to hunt. this hunt will take place on public land. i will post more again when it gets closer. i would really like to have a couple small work shop type things like basic bow building, flint knapping and things along that line. the only problem would be the time frame and if there is enough time to do these things and hunt. any ideas or suggestions are greatly appreciated!!
I'll Be There!!!!! Wouldn't miss it for the world!!!!!
As for the "time frame" you could teach "fire building, with flint&steel" at the evening campfire every night :campfire:
no problem on the flint and steel, thats the only way i would think of starting a fire!!!
I'd love to be there Ken. Nothing I like better than meeting member's of the 'Gang...
Ken...please pm me.
Hey adkmountainken,
Where abouts are you in the Adirondacks? My Dad has a place near Paradox Lake where I'll be hunting the archery opener and could possibly extend my trip to hook up with you all. I grew up in western NY and used to vacation in the Adirondacks every summer. Man I love it there. Some day I'll take the plunge and get a place of my own back there. It'd be tough to leave Northern CA, but maybe I could work out a time-share situation. It'd be worth it!
Ken,
Let me know if there is anything I can do to help you get ready for Adk Attack 2. More than willing to help anyway I can. Can't wait til part 2. I know it is gonna be awesome.

Ken,
Keep me on the list!
Thank you,

Where on Paradox lake I live on River road just a bit from the lake. I wish I could make it but my youngest and I got drawn for antelope in wyoming. will be gone that week.
Dean
PS he is about 1.5 hour drive from Paradox.
You're going to need a big meat pole :D
Mike, NO PROBLEM!!!!!
jc(the butcher)snapshot can cut them up as quick as we can shoot them!!!!!
Hi Tonto,
My Dad's place is off Old Furnace Road. We can probably see your mountain from the top of the cabin!
Good luck in Wyoming.
(sorry for the thread hijack)
Ken...I'm checking my calender closely. If I can swing those dates off from work, I'll head up there with Woodchucker....
Sounds Good Joe!!!!! Allways got a seat for you Bud!!!!!
Ken, Really looking forward to pic's from you on this...next best thing to being there :)
Not alot of vacation days left this year to come up but please catch a creel full of gems for us when you get the chance and email the pics to me, they are sooooo pretty!!
I will pencil it on the calendar. I will really try to make it. I also only start a campfire with "primitive" methods. I can get a fire going with flint and steel faster than most guys can with a match.
Hey any fishing available at that time of year there? Might want to make it a trifecta, catch a fish, shoot a squirrel and a deer all in the same day.
Ken i could make it for the 5th and 6th. What kind of small game is abundant in your parts? I'm all for if it's brown it's down or if it flies it dies. :bigsmyl:
Hey Jim, How about "little furry black things, that run like a bugger!!!!!" LOL
There are also a boat load of turkeys pecking around those woods too. I still have nightmares about those things ;)
Chuck, with a lil help, I can bone out and cut up about two deer an hour bud. Would be glad to get them in the freezer quick for anyone there.

I enjoy dabbling in dutch oven cooking and would be glad to do my best to whip something tasty up for everyone for a lunch or dinner meal. :campfire: :coffee:
Mike,
i would really love to learn dutch oven cooking, i look forward to that. as i have said befoe i am looking in to the possibilities of a few people teaching their skill but it all depends on how long people are staying. i would really love to learn from a good flint knapper, bow maker and tracker. i will demonstrate flint and steel fire making as well as knife and hawk throwing. if anyone has anything they would like to teach i am all for it!!!!!
Sounds good Chuck, if Joe wants to eat it I'll shoot it.
Ken I'll see if I can't swing a couple days out there about that time, I'll know more as we get closer to the dates.....I'd love to see Ru in his first year of deer hunting, the deer are going to be in trouble deep with that boy in the woods with a bow......
David
YUMMY!!!!! Black Squirrel ala Dutch Oven!!!!! :bigsmyl:
Ken, I'm tellin' ya Brother, David will be right at home up in them mountains!!!!!
I remember the story, but some of the "details" are a little "foggy" so maybe David can clear them up for us.....
Some time ago.....A gentleman drew a Moose permit to hunt up in the White Mountains of New Hampshire. David talks to the gentleman and asks him what area he is hunting in,then tells him "I know that area well and I'm not busy for a few days,I'll come up and help you".David comes home from work, packs some things, throws them into his truck, and drives off into the White Mountains. The BEST part is that he drove all the way up into the mountains, found this gentleman, and comes walking into this gentlemans campfire.....
IN THE MIDDLE OF THE NIGHT!!!!!
Talk about a man who can find his way in the mountains!!!!! :notworthy:
David My Friend,I hope you can make it,we'd be glad to have ya!!!!!
I will try to be there, believe me......
Wasn't quite as hard as Chuck's version, it was a beat up logging road to the top of the mountain, I was fortunate enough to drive into the "camp", and it was almost daybreak when I pulled in.....but it was out in the middle of nowhere, and I was fortunate enough to gain a good friend that I hope to hunt with again.
That gentleman is a member here, Jeff Holchin, and he shot his moose on that hunt at 6 yards the day after I had to leave.....the man is a hunting machine and I am glad to have met him.
Anyways, like I said, I will do all I can to make this hunt, it has to be fun with so many members from here.
David
David,
really hope you can make it and i know Vic would love to hunt with you!
i have a question for all of you. i really want to spend some time with everyone getting to know eack other and doing a couple activities. however i believe the majority of people will be only staying the weekend and i'm not sure when or how to do all this. i was thinking either sleeping in Sunday and then getting everyone together for a big breakfeast after which we could spend the time doing different activities and then hunting that afternoon. or we could hunt for a few hours Sunday morning and come out early to do all the things we will have planned. being most will only have Sat and Sun to hunt i'm not sure how to accomplish all this. any suggestions?
I been watching whos coming and I will love hunting or visiting with all. Things keep changing out here and not for the better. Oct can't come fast enough for me. I might be trading the truck for better mileage and slowly making or working my way out there long before October. Anybody own a restaurant and need dishes washed? Can't wait.... Vic
at this time i would like to appoint the honorable Justice T Woodchucker as the official judge and jury of the kangaroo court for the second annual Adirondack attack!! he will preside in the applying of fines and work orders for any infractions such as slips, falls, stumbles, sailor language, improper hunting attire and most importantly misses of hunted game!!! what do ya say your honor????
uh oh. I'm gonna be in trouble. Got my feet tangled up more than once in my two days there. :scared: Looking forward to sharing a campfire with you guys again.
:campfire: :archer: :coffee:

Ken
Where are you located in the Adirondacks. I live in Rome N.Y.
Ed
HELLO ED!!!!!!!!!! Great to hear from you!!!!!
Ken lives in the Johnstown area, just east on the Thruway from you,get off the Johnstown exit (#26?????) maybe 2 hours from you. Are you thinking about coming?????
Ed,

How about whomever misses cleans the dutch oven after I make peach cobbler :jumper:
Jim; I think your right about that , maybe we can ride together if it works out for us both ?
Ken : I sent out a package to you yesterday , this time with insurance :0) I hope you don't mind I took liberty with design on your replacement. I have another package going in the mail today for you also :0) Again sorry for the lost package the first time around :0(
Mike : I will have to miss on purpose so as I kin lick the peach cobbler out of that dutch oven for you :0) Man now I have an excuse if I happen to miss :0)
Drew,
That will work for me.
Drew...in that case I'll have to make some blueberry cobbler too ;)
Hey I got to thinking...if you guys are gonna have any knappers around, I can supply the chert. I wont be able to come but I want to help....
I figured Chuck can swing by on his way and grab it if need be.......just let me know.
If you guys want it,I have no problems stopping at Jamie's and picking it up
(and I PROMISE  I won't "kidnap" him without "Mom's" permission)
Here Ye!!!!! Here Ye!!!!! This Court will now come to order!!!!! :knothead:
The "Honorable" Justice T. Woodchucker presiding.....
I here-by make the following declaration.....
Any Hunter found guilty of missing a "small four legged" critter (i.e. any "other" critter not mentioned in "Law #1") shall be imposed upon the following fine.....
The said Hunter shall have to "lick clean" (clean) Mike's Dutch Oven
By the power invested in me by my Good Friend and Brother "adkmountainken".....
I now pronounce this "Law #2"
Why do I get the sense that Ken's created a law-making monster? ;)
I don't mind as long as Chuck doesn't show up in a powdered wig toting a gavel.
How about a "Swirling Cloud of White Powder????? :bigsmyl:
oh man da judge has spoken!!
Mike : I have a feeling alot of missing is going to be claimed just so as to be found guilty by his honnor and penalty paid :0)
That's the point Drew!!!!! ;) Even if you guys are "trying" to miss, the more wood you guys put in the air, somebodys GOTTA hit something LOL!!!!!
More game for the pot!!!!!
i will be out tomorrow morning "hunting" tree stand areas and shooting game with the dig camera! got to say i'm really looking forward to this!
wood ? who said I shoots wood ? well unless its against the law not to then of course I could get out the ash arrows :0)
WELL....It's NOT against the law.....(yet????? )
Our good Buddy Jim (jcsnapshot) would be VERY unhappy about that,He shoots them "prehistoric" carbon arrows LOL!!!!!
Just remember.....If you aint flingin' arrows.....you aint gonna hit anything!!!!!
(or "miss" anything ;) )
I'm "scouting" today too Ken. Got my first batch of Trail Fudges cooking up outside in the 3 qt. Dutch Oven now. Scouting out recipies :D . Cheese bisquits are going in the 6 qt. Dutch Oven next. Hope we don't have too many lactose intollerant or diabetics on the list or anyone not wanting to gain a few pounds ;) . I am really looking forward to the hunt and taking pictures of Andrew licking out my ovens...sure hope he waits till they cool. :jumper:
Heck I gotta wait till they cools down now :0(
:( My "prehistoric" arrahs look like wood, would that count? :p
I'll be in Polaski salmon fishing at that time any idea how far from there it is? I hope to get some nice skins and try backing with them this year.
Polaski is about 6 hours away if my memory serves me correctly
Pulaski shouldn't be much more than 3 hours to Johnstown, maybe even 2 1/2. This is looking like a great bunch going to be there.

Mike,
did ya get my email with the gps coordinates? hope that helps. i will be out every weeknd untill the hunt scouting now. if anyone wants gps coordinates of stand sites or pictures of anything just let me know.
Yep...thanks Ken. I do need to know however what datum you have your gps set on... is it Latitude/Longitude, UTM, etc. When I know this I can make gps maps of the area and email them to you and you could send them to whomever is coming if you would like.
under map datum it says
wgs 84
position frmt
hddd*mm'ss.s"
units
statute
north ref
magnetic
variance
014*w
does that help? also i could give you many more stand site coordinates this weekend.
Hmmmmm..... A "Mountain Man" with a GPS?????
Only Kidding My Brother!!!!! :bigsmyl:
I think Daniel Boone would have traded his Buckskin shirt and moccassins for a Gore-Tex jacket and a pair of Burly boots in a heartbeat!!!!!
Ken...keep the stand site coordinates coming and I'll get them all on the Adirondack Attack Hunting topo map
I may have a struggle with that datum but I'll get to it and see what I can do. We may need to do a conversion to another datum on your gps but let's wait and see what I can come up with first.
Hey...I just checked mine which is an old model and it is on WGS 84 also...yippee :jumper:
Mike,
if i could find a topo map or you know where to get one online could you auctualy plot the stands on the map from the info i give you? i would be very interested in that. would give me better ideas for small drives to stand hunters.
I'll bring my compass!!!!!
Ken...you get me those coordinates and I'll get you that map man
Alright...who is getting shirts made up for the hunt ;)
We could have 2nd Adirondack Attack printed on the shirt-tail!!!!!
I'll bring a compass also, that way I'll have something to throw in disgust when i get lost.
i will check in to shirts, i had auctualy been thinking of that!
It's been awhile.....ttt for My Brother!!!!!
