Well after hearing so many here sing the praises of the RER bows, I broke down and traded for a used one. I shot the bow this morning when I got home from work for the first time. The bow seems to shoot real well with good speed and is one of the quietest bows i have ever shot. The specs are 60" 52#@29", here are some pics of the riser..

Claro walnut and Katalox riser.

I shot the first few arrows at 20 yards to get a feel for the bow. Here is my first 20 yard group.

I noticed when i backed up a little that my groups started to open up a little but i think that they will shrink with a lil more shooting. Here is my first group at 40 yards.

All in all i really like the bow and the fit and finish is flawless. Kevin and Sue make a fine bow. Now i might have to give a vortex or an Arroyo a try.
Very nice bow and great groups Chad!
That wood looks to have some real fancy grain. What are the vaneers? Looks like ya got a real nice RER Chad.Vman are you next?<>< :saywhat:
The Limbs are curly walnut veneers with boo cores.
Chad,
I believe the hook is set, RER's are a fine bow made by great people.Hope that the bow may be a keeper for you.
Have you chrono it yet? Congrats on a nice looking bow Chad. BTW Tom hear tell you are coming to WI.<><
Haven't shot it through the chrono yet but will later this week along with my zipper.
Chad ole Bud...Looks like you got her dialed prety good. You know that bow shot really well for me at Cloverdale too. you planning on hunting with that puppy when I come see you in October?
Chad-Is it noticeably faster than most other bows you've shot-nice groups-especially at 40 yards. I'm curious-what spine and grain arrows are you shooting? My RER will arrive in February.
BD
Yeah, Chad, get a Vortex or Arroyo and then you can put THIS one onto the classifieds here! Sweet looking bow. The RER club is growing.
40 YARDS THATS A HELL OF A GROUP,man i need practice, thats more like a 10 yard group for me, with a bow i'm familar with, maybe i will see you in Wis. shoot couple weeks from fri. you can give me some tips.jonesy
Congats on the bow, RER bows are great, Kevin and Sue are top notch people.
Dave
Where does one find more info. on these RER bows?
http://www.rerbows.com/
Great looking bow....those RER's are sweeet!!!
They are at that Fred. Kevin makes one heck of a bow.
Frank,
Yes, we are coming to the RER source.Met Kevin and Sue last year and will be visiting relatives in Madison and then up to Kevin'a later in the week.
Really looking forward to seeing them again! Looking forward to seeing the great state of WI., its been a long time since we've been up there.
Tom yep Sue asked us to comeup when you go up. We might might just pull that off. Be a great time meeting you and spending sometime with everyone.<><
Chad, nice bow. Thye are the only bows I am shooting now. I have an Arroyo and it is 54"s and a dream to shoot. I think you will find that your new bow is a bit quicker than your zippers. Shawn
oh boy Fred, .....your wife WILL kill you one of these days>>>>>>>>.hehe :bigsmyl: ron
Nice bow Chad....but mines prettier :biglaugh: ...just kidding, but the RER is one of the best shooting wood recurves EVER!

Hey Rod nice to see ya post. I see your showing off that stunning work of art. BTW when ya going to come up to Wi?<><<><
Hey Frank ...I may make it up to WI in August.
Let me know when you get tired of it!
:archer:
Hey Rod, I got screwed cause mine didn't come with one of those nice cases! :D I love the looks of yours.
As for arrows, i'm shooting easton st epic 500's cut 29'1/2" with standard inserts and 125gr. points. Been shooting these easton 500's for about a year and they are awesome.
Nice bow! I've heard a lot about these bows lately especially how fast they are. Well, fast or not, they are great looking bows.
The bow has good speed but really the thing that impressed me most was how quiet the bow is.
Speed is nice but quiet kills. RERbows has both :bigsmyl: .<><
that bow is extreme quiet! Hardly a whisper when you drop the string. You gonna hang on to this one a little while?
Anyone shoot the Vortex?
Snag1, Fast, smooth, quiet and abslolutely dead in the hand now your talking votex and a great price to boot!<><
I have two Vortex's and like them both, kind of an ebony and ivory thing. One is cocobolo/curley maple and the other is kingwood riser with rosewood limbs. Both are dead in hand and quiet.
Frank- hope to meet you and Shell and maybe shoot some together.
Chad, Congrats on your new Bow. Time's a coming to take some game with her.
Pretty hard to beat a Vortex Andy. Just ask anybody that has one. i'm expecting another one in a week. Pics will be posted.
QuoteI noticed at 40 yrds my groups started to open up a bit
:notworthy: :notworthy: :banghead:
man that looks just like my old bow i let leroy steal off of me but i just got a new vortex and i love it recommend them to anyone
Hey wait a minute jamie ....We traded remember you got the Shrew Scout. Stole it ...Ya Right! LOL!! Your Vortex should be back to you tomarrow my friend.
You guys are making it hard not to pick up the phone and order a Vortex! Fast, smooth, quiet, absolutely dead in the hand...what more is there? Maybe if it would "witch" for elk like witching for water? Now that would be one heck of a stick!
Didn't we tell you that they are Game Magnets! LOL!!
+1 as a pleased Vortex owner.
Chad-
Just curious what your brace height and nock point is. Also, does the 60 inch bow feel stiff at all at your draw length. i have a 29 inch draw length and am leaning towards the 62 inch bow, but I'm still considering the 60 incher as well.
BD
BD I'm sure Chad will chime in but I'd say go for the 60". The static tips make that bow draw like a longer bow. Really smooth!
Hey Rod, I bought one of your cases from Chad Weaver to put my Rivers Edge in. I absolutely love the case. Very well designed and tough. The bow is pretty awesome too. It's everything everyone said.
BD, The 60" works fine for me and i'm pulling it 29 1/2".. Myself, I prefer a 62" bow but this one is fine at my draw length.
Jamie, Man you sure parted with a great bow. Thanks! :bigsmyl: I payed LeRoy back for you by trading him out of it. :D
I own a 54" Arroyo and I draw just shy of 29"s and this bow is smooth to 30"s. You could shoot the 58"er with a 29" draw, no problem! Shawn
I draw 29" on both my Vortex's. one is 60" and the other is 62"- both are smooth and quiet but a slight edge in speed goes to the 60". Never chrono'd but just my perception with the same arrows.
Kevin really makes a shooter doesn't he boys. Heck it's even got Mister Zipper singing the RER praises.
That's Right
I like this bow alot but my zippers will always have a home. I'm gonna rune the RER through the chrono in the morning along side my zipper just to see how they compare. Should be interesting!
Can't wait to see the results of this one Bud!
Chad-
Any chrono results yet? I'm very curious.
Brady
I bet dollars to donuts the RER is quicker and by quite a bit. I have owned both and I know to my eye the RER was the faster and quieter bow as well. Zippers are very nice, but are not for me. Shawn
i haven't shot the Zippers much Shawn but I'm betting you're right about the RER being faster. How bout it Chad ole Buddy what's the verdict?
What was that bet again LeRoy and Shawn??? :bigsmyl: I was with Chad yesterday when he ran both bows through the chrono. I'll let him post the results when he gets to work tonight..but don't bet your lunch money on much of a speed difference...you may get hungry. :help:
In the recurve world 5-6 fps. is a lot. I also know that the testing would be the best Chad could do but ya actually need a shooting machine to really know. Shawn
I'm guessin it was pretty close but i'm still thinkin the RER by a nose.
I know that Shawn. I'll let Chad give the numbers. He shot numerous arrows out of each bow and then averaged the speed. The RER was just a tad faster but it's also 2 lbs. heavier draw weight and two inches shorter in length. From what I saw I'd have to call it a draw.
I find that hard to believe, as I shot a 47# Vortex along side of a 50# Zipper with LB limbs(I ws told they are only 2fps.than the recurve limbs) and the Vortex was definitely quicker, but I believe ya, just did not see that with my eye to eye comparison. Shawn
I can be happy with a tie. Both are well made bows.
Yes, I was impressed with both bows. A bowhunter could be happy shooting either one.
I for one am very happy with all of my RER bows.
Yup, I have to agree and speed is about 4th. on my list anyway of what I like in a bow. #1 is how it shoots and points for me and #2 Quiet!!! Shawn
Alright guys here are the results. I shot both the RER and my zipper recurve with both the longbow and the recurve limbs. All were shot using the same 394gr arrows. Here are the specs,
Zipper recurve: 50#@29" 62" avg. 197fps
Zipper Longbow: 52#@29" 62" avg. 199fps
RER recurve: 52#@29" 60" avg. 201fps
Also just for a change i also shot a 450gr arrow and every bow lost 5 fps. All the bows shot real well i thought and the speed was pretty much what i figured it would be. I thought the speed was good considering both bows were whisper quiet with the light arrows.
Interesting-I thought the RER would be considerably faster than the zipper. Was the zipper the standard riser or the extreme? Also, have you shot any other bows at the same specs for further comparison and what was your brace hieght on the zipper vs the RER.
Interesting stuff.
That follows suit with my Zipper Extreme Chad...4lbs heavier and one inch less in draw and I get mid/high 190's...197ish. Mine is braced right at 6.5"...great shooter.
That said...I've owned a few RER's and still have an Arroyo...great bows. I want to put my 54" Arroyo thru a chrono...she seems extremley quick.
BD, the zipper is an extreme riser.
When measuring the brace from the throat of the grip, both were braced at 7 3/8" on the recurves and the longbow limbs were at 7 1/2".
I have to second what Brian said as far as the Arroyo, they smoke. Kevin(RER bows) told me mine was the first out of the form and for some reason was quicker than the ones that came after it. Chad were the limbs you shot made for the extreme riser or did they come from a standard riser? Shawn
My bow was one i ordered and both set of limbs have book matched veneers. I don't think that it would make much difference. The longbow limbs all come off the same form. Bill just weighs the limbs on a standard riser and marks them and then adds 3 pounds and writes that on the other side for the extreme.
Interesting, Chad...thanks.
I think my old Zipper without fastflight will still meet my deer hunting needs. :bigsmyl:
Thanks Chad that is what I was wondering because I thought when ya went from the standard riser to the Extreme the #age changed. Shawn
The limbs Bob made were always marked with the weight of what ever riser they were made for. Bill has been putting the weight on the for both risers. It will say the weight and ext. for the extreme on one side and the std weight on the other.
You do gain 3 pounds on the extreme riser. Since i ordered mine with both sets of limbs they are marked for the extreme only!
so now for the $64,000 question. you keepin the RER?
No plans to send it down the road anytime soon! Now if it shot 170fps that would be different. But as it stands they shoot so close i would se no reason to pick one over the other.
Well in that case we'll get them together for our October deer hunt weekend. Your 60"49@28 and my 58" 49@28. Arrows of course will be interchangable since I'll be shooting my Excel 500s and 125 grain Simmons.
I didn't think the RER would be any faster than your Zipper....It's great to have a few bows that shoot so similar.
Chad, not trying to change topic, but do you hunt with those arrow weights. If so,what kinda penetration do ya get?
Robert, Chad should be along soon(maybe tonight). But I know he hunts with those weights and gets goot penetration with thin diameter carbons and Snuffers.
Check out the highlight 2006 and 2007 forums...the boy gets it done!
I've seen some threads, Curt...he doesn't always hunt with those weights, sometimes he goes a bit lighter ;)
He sure does get it done.
Yep, I've seen some of his deer posted here. He's hard on'em.I've always shot around 525grs,but Ihave a new bow comin,52@29". I have some 3000 Vapors that'll come in about 420grs.Just wonderin what he thinks of that since I've never shot an animal with lighter than 500grs and he's shootin about the same poundage.
Sorry guys for not getting back sooner. An abscessed tooth has had me on the shelf the last couple days.
Robert, Yes i do hunt with those weights and have no trouble at all with penetration. My buck last fall was taken at 12 yards and the arrow hit the shoulder blade on entry and was hanging out the exit hole by the feathers and fell out when he made one jump. My snow doe was taken at about the same range and the arrow was 10-15 yards on the opposite side of her stuck in the ground. Now i wouldn't go that light with wood but with carbon they will passthrough more times than not.
Thanx Chad,I'm gonna try that this year.Lots simpler not having to add weight to shafts.Seems like I get into all kinds of tuning issues when I start trying to make my shafts heavier.
Good shooting, I agree with Jonesy, wish I could shoot that good at 40 yds, heck even 20 yds!!!!
Been hearing alot of good about RER. Might have to get me a Vortex to try.
Jake
