I'm looking for input regarding the best compromise for a quiver that I can use for 3d and hunting. Probably will see more 3d than hunting until my skill improves. I have seen nice quivers by Steven Catts and Cedar Ridge but I can't decide on the style, back, side or hip. Is there one style that works best for both or should I think about maybe getting two? I do like back quivers but I seem to see many posts in this forum advocating side quivers also. What do you prefer and why?
It's pretty much a personal thing. I like and use back quivers, but that's just me, they work great for me. As for the why, I don't like something floping anound on my hip. I have used side quivers also, and like them to, but I prefer the back quiver.
Everyone is differn't, what works well for one, may not be another one's cup of tea. :archer:
I like my back quiver, but everyone has their own preference.
I like a back quiver for 3d,and stump shooting.Never cared for a quiver on my bow so when hunting season starts I go to my Cat VI quiver.
I use a side quiver, plains indian style. Works for everything. Just have to make certain the bottom is reinforced for broadheads and that it's long enough to cover your fletching.
I use one of the Catts hip quivers for 3D shooting. It is easier to do all the arrow removing/installing that 3D requires.
I have two good back quivers but it is easier to select an arrow from the hip quiver and it is cooler for our hot weather shoots. My back and chest were always soaked in sweat from the back quiver.
I use a GFA style for hunting though.
I just ordered a Catts Hip Hunter for one reason. I'm going to be elk hunting and the backpack prevents use of my back quiver. I don't use a bowquiver and this Hip Hunter seemed a good substitute. The last few years of elk hunting had me tying my backquiver to the backpack....not good.
Back Quivers are nice if ya like to carry lots of arrows for 3D shoots. Hip and Bow Quivers work well for hunting. It might be best for you to try them out for yourself. Just a matter of taste. For me ... Well, I have more then one of each! ... :D ... Maybe you might catch "the sickness" too some day! ... ...

The way I see it everyone needs at least one of every kind for special days. :) I got a pocket quiver from Gary last year and use that at 3ds more than anything else now.It is great when you just need 2 or 3 arrows to shoot a round in hot weather.I use bow quiver and/or a tube quiver for hunting.
I use a Cedar Ridge hip quiver for 3-D, a pocket quiver for shooting around the house, and a cheap hip quiver from Wal-Mart for hunting. I don't like the way a bow quiver makes my bow feel, back quivers are too hot for 3-D and too noisy for hunting (for me anyway), 3 or 4 Lakota style quivers I've tried didn't work out, a Cat Quiver just doesn't fit my build (very uncomfortable), etc. The only one I can think of that I haven't tried is a Simmon's Rotary quiver. The hip quiver rides comfortably, or I can just sling the belt over my shoulder and carry it under my arm, or strap it to my stand. It snags the least and is quiet.
Cedar Ridge (Art Vincent) makes the best hip quiver I've used for 3-D--besides looking great, it's stiff--I don't dump arrows, it doesn't flop around, and has a big pocket for extra stuff (spare glove, spare string, score card, pencils, bar of soap for lubricating arrows, etc.), holds plenty of arrows......dang nice quiver.

I use a pocket quiver for 3D and general target shooting.
On short hunts I travel light and use a Simmons Bushmaster. On longer hunts when I have to carry a few more things I use a Catquiver II or a backpack with the Bushmaster attached to it.

Usually a pocket quiver for 3D or maybe a hip quiver if I think I will need more than 6 arrows (can't shoot so well some days). A side quiver or bow quiver for broadheads/hunting. I'm too self-conscious to be seen spinning around trying to reach into my back quiver and if I do get an arrow out, I miss the quiver opening when I try to put it back.
this is what i use for every thing incl hunting (http://i166.photobucket.com/albums/u85/wolfman_031/CIMG1411.jpg)
I use a pocket quiver for 3D. I have been using a catquiver for hunting but just got a side quiver by Vista that im going to try this year.
for 3D I also use a pocket quiver but for hunting I use a bow quiver or a kwikee with the side quiver attachment. I'm gonna use the GFA quiver this year.
I like a hip quiver like this

Or some like a little lighter style like this one

And then there is the ole stand by pocket quiver

I think it really just comes down to preference i like to carry a small set of bino's so I like the top model as it allows for my bino's and a belt for water bottles etc...some fellas carry less
Thanks for the input guys, but come on....pocket quiver for 3D? I'm going to need to carry like 30 arrows or so! lol! Actually, I think I may get a side quiver for hunting and a smaller hip quiver for 3D. Pocket quiver for 3D, going to wait until I feel comfortable carrying only 6 or so arrows.

My 3-D quiver.

MrBadExample,
When you find out what the perfect quiver is please let me know. I've spent too much money trying to figure it out on my own.

This is exactly what I was hoping to avoid! :)
I've found the Quiver Caddy to be the best solution, myself. I've yet to find a better hunting quiver option (don't like bow quivers) and their is no "flopping", or tangling in brush. It's the easiest on/off option out there IMO. Plus, with the use of the Kwikee Kwiver bracket, I can have several Kwikee's set up with different arrows and points. That way, my broadheads are in the hunting Kwikee, and field points or others in other Kwikees, and it's easy to change on the Quiver Caddy.
Homemade GFA-style, or back quiver, for both hunting and 3D.
If I'm squirrel hunting, it's definately the back quiver. If I'm going to be in a treestand, or don't need many arrows, I'll use the GFA. Depends what I feel like that day, I guess!
This is what I am using this year and it only cost me about $6.00. I bought a grey wool womens purse for $1.00 at a garage sale and bought this old bear quiver for about $5.00. It also works great for 3D shoots as I can carry my cell phone, camera, keys, water bottle and credit cards :D .

i use this hip quiver for 3d and stalking and a side quiver if i will be sitting in a tree since it is easier to get another arrow out if i need it. i like simple quivers and this one was really easy to make and i used the coyote tooth for the "button", which i found one day out roving.
