Would any of you tradgangers in the Tulsa area be interested in a get together. I am thinking of getting together for a cook-out, shoot some bows (and probably some bull!) and just get to know each other. Of course, any other tradgangers that would happen to be in the area would be welcome. Let me know what you think.
A get-together would be fun. I live just east of highway 18 in pawnee county. I'd try to keep the location central. I have ten acres, but we're really wet right now -- like walking on a sponge. If it dries out, we could have it here if my location is central enough.
Richard :)
That sounds good. I was thinking of having it at my place, we are also soggy! Let's see how the responses go and the weather. Central location is a good idea. If this works out, I'd like to do it maybe a couple of times or so a year and at maybe different locations.
I would be interested also. Don't have a good location for a gathering, but will try to attend.
Sounds good...
Rusty
Sounds like a great idea. :clapper:
Looks like we might have a good crowd. Let's try to keep in touch and when the rain quits for a little while let's get together. Looks like my place my be central to start off with. Anyone else interested?
I'm in. keep us posted.
Randy. I live just south of Sapulpa, off of Lone Star road! I've got 160 acres on top of the ridge, so we stay pretty solid, even after a foot of rain! I've got a 30X50 shop (air-conditioned!) and I have 5 3-D targets set up outside. I've even got several osage logs that need to be split if anyone would like to learn the fine art of splittin' hedge ;)
I would be more than willing to "host" this get-together if you want.....always like meeting fellow archers/bowhunters.
Doug, That sounds real good. It'll take a couple of days at least for me to dry out. I live off hwy 97 at 86th. I'll send you a pm and see if we can get this thing rolling.
Count me in also, and I think Rocdoc's spread would be a grand place to have it.
Keep us informed...
Cam
I'll be in the mountains of New Mexico a week from this saturday until the 22nd of July. So from now until then I'm booked up,so if gathering happens between now and then, I can't be there. But thats ahright, I'm not THAT entertaining..
I'll just meet you guys when I can
Rusty
You guys might even have a few Arkies show up for this. Keep us posted....Terry
"when the rain quits" for a little while let's get together
It's gonna quit raining ? ! ? !
I'm watching.
Dennis
Unfortunately, the long range forecast for the next month or so is wetter than usual! Rocdoc has a large shop, so if we get rained on, at least there will be some cover. I've emailed him with some proposed dates and waiting to hear from him. I'll keep everybody posted.
I'm in, after July 10. Be out of pocket until then.
I am new to tradgand, but would like to meet a few trad guys in the area. Every one I know shoots compound. Tell me when and where. Carl
90 minutes up the pike ain't that far....would you except a city boy? Gotta bow that needs finishing real bad. Seems every time a good event shows up, I skip off to the hospital. ~Rick
You all would be welcome. I going to try and set a date and place in a couple, 3 days.
Hey Rocdoc, you wouldn't be a trying to get MY log split, wood ya? I would like to come up there if'n U would let me. I promise I wouldn't bring any rif-raf. Will it be before or after Mojam?
RocDoc, you goin' to Mojam?
Reddy Kilowat
Reddy Kilowat! Oh My God, your showin' your age Mike. By the way, if this get together works out and I know I'll be there could I twist your arm to bring that take down sleeve if you still have it? I couldn't make it to O-jam...
Rusty
Im in Stillwater but would love to come. Dont know much but Im trying to learn. Im watching.
I e-mailed Randy back and I think we're looking at either Saturday the 14th or Sunday the 15th at my place. We'll fire up the grill and cook whatever shows up, fling some arra's, maybe scrape on some wood......pretty much just have a good 'ol "guys day".
Mike, I am going to Mojam.....probably won't get there 'till Thursday afternoon sometime. As far as YOUR log? I wouldn't dream of splittin' that thing up without some help and I CERTAINLY wouldn't take any of it, with you being so "HEDGE POOR" and all!! ;)
Rocdoc, sending you a PM
I'm up for it. And just in case I've been keeping my canoe strapped to the top of my jeep. But unfortunately I'll be temporarily one armed, dadgummed old carphole tuna stuff gotta get fixed next week.
We'll be hosting a Bowhunter education class at the OKC Gun Club on the 14th. looks like I missed again. ~Rick
Dang- You guys picked the same weekend that Bondo picked for a little get together in Arkansas...Maybe next year....Terry
Seeing as there are some conflicts on the 14th, how about July 28th or august 4th. Rocdoc, how about you? Let me know if one of these would be better and we'll get this thing rolling.
The weekend of the 14th is going to be the best for me. If you guys need to do it after that, I understand, but I probably won't be able to make it.
Terry.....you just need to tell David that you're moving HIS get together to MY place! :D
OK guys, it's Saturday July 14th. Say about 1 pm. Is that Ok for you Rocdoc? Get ahold of Rocdoc for directions and let me know who all is coming so I can have enough burgers and maybe some hotdogs. You might bing some sides or deserts and your own drinks. Also, bring a lawn chair and don't forget the bows. Include some flu-flu's as I might set up some fun targets.
We'll just have to have another one and at a different location in August or September if enough interest to catch the ones that can't make it to this one.
Rocdoc, let me know your address. I might have one or two shelters for shade (or rain!) if you think we'll need it. I'll get there a little early if you want to get things set up.
I'll PM everybody that replied to this.
When I found out the get together was the 14th I said to my wife "hey, guess what the 14th of July is?" to which she replied "The day before our 30th wedding anniversary"......The way I see it TradGang just kept me out of a lot of hot water. What might have happened to my marriage if I would have remained hunting with a compound? Unless she has other plans I plan on being there. DW
If I make it there I'll bring my E-Z Up. Hopefully we won't float away before then.
Dennis
OK guys....pay attention. Here's the directions from Hiway 75:
Take the Sapulpa exit and go west on 117. 117 becomes Taft in Sapulpa. Turn south on to Hickory and go 2 miles to Lone Star Road. Go west on Lone Star Road apx. 1.5 miles to 146th ST. (146th only goes west, there are a bunch of mail boxes at the turn on to 146th). You are going to go up 2 hills on 146th street, at the top of the second hill there are a couple of houses off to the right and a couple off to the left.....GO STRAIGHT. The road is bounded on either side by fence, but you are still on 146th street (looks more like a lease road at this point). Just keep going through the gate and follow the road....it ends on OUR property. Our house is on the right and my shop is next to the house.
It really isn't hard to find but if you get lost my cell phone number is 630-8353.
I have 5 3-D targets and if anyone else wants to bring one we can set up a small 3-D range.
Wish I could make it but I'm a bit too far away right now. Have fun guys and take some pics!
Any of you coming from Sand Springs or points west (Richard in Ok in particular) can stop by my house and follow me out or ride with me.
Richard in Ok: We may have the next one at your place or mine if it ever dries out.
Razorsharptokill: Keep in touch, we will be having another get together.
Well, it's time to take a head count. Randy is trying to figure out how many we are going to feed, so let's chime in and let him know who's coming!
I'm planning on being there. rbb: I'll take my chances on finding it myself, and keep your phone #s in reserve. Thanks for the offer.
Richard
I'm planning on it.
Dennis
I know of at least 4 other guys, who are not on the Tradgang, that are planning to come.
Anyone who wants to come early just come on. I know a few guys are coming in the morning....I'll be out in my shop by 8:00 AM.
Doug
I'll be there with my buddy.
Anybody gonna be working on selfbows? OR is this more of a get together and shoot the bull and a few arrers? I'm game either way, just need to know what to bring.
And remember, I'm providing Hamburgers and hot dogs. You guys bring a side dish or desert. See you saturday.
I was hoping I'd be in better shape but as of today I'm still not able to drive safely after my hand surgery last week so I'll regretfully have to pass. (If I have a sudden improvement and decide to come I'll bring a couple of dozen brats.)
Larry,
Me and my buddy John are planning on coming. Unless something comes up, I can swing by and get you, if you want to go. PM me and let me know.
Clint, I won't know for sure till tomorrow evening. Is your cell # the same as it was on our last wood cutting trip?
Yep, still the same. Give me a holler if you decide to go.
I think we'll mostly be shooting the bull and some arrows, But, If Rocdoc doesn't mind, bring along a selfbow project. I'd like to learn some myself as I am thinking of building one and would like some pointers to get started.
This would be a good opportunity to get some pointers. Definitely bring your self-bow projects if you'd like. If you don't have one started, we can take care of that too.....like I said, I've got some wood that needs to be split ;-) I'll let anyone who wants to do some splittin' for a share of the staves.
Those of you who would rather just sit around and visit.....I'll probably be in that circle myself!
See 'ya Saturday!
Doug
Guys I reluctantly must pass. My hand has not recovered enough from surgery and I'm still amazed and annoyed at how freaking helpless a fellow can be with his main paw out of action.
Dryrot, come on out and visit and have some burgers anyways.
Unfortunately there are still some day to day activities that I require assistance with that I would not impose upon my best of friends.
:banghead:
Have fun and somebody take pictures....
Larry,
Sorry to hear the hand is still bothering you. Hope it gets to healing soon...hunting season isn't that far away.
Are you going to be able to go to MOJAM?
Well, thought I'd pop in and just say that I had a GREAT time! I think all total we had 14 guys there throughout the day. Had a few guys get started on their first self-bow and a couple of others just working on a new one. We even had a demonstration on what NOT to do with your pocket-knife. GREAT DEMO CLINT!
Those of you who didn't come.....you need to make the next one.....great bunch of guys and some pretty decent shooters to boot!
Randy......thanks again for getting this going AND for the burgers. Not hardly fair to make a guy who's been working a draw knife all morning go straight to the grill, but he was a trooper!
Doug
Hey Doug...glad SOMEBODY enjoyed the demo- I sure could have done without it. It was a good day, in spite of the unplanned side trip to the ER.
Thanks to everyone that put it together, and especially to Doug for hosting it and for digging into his wood stash for several of us. I really am continually amazed at the generosity and the fellowship of the people on this site.
See ya at MOJAM....bandage and all. :bigsmyl:
I had a good time and enjoyed meeting everybody. And a big thanks to Doug for his generosity for hosting the event and supplying the staves and expert guidance. We will definately have to do this again.
Clint, I hope your finger doing better.
I have a couple of pictures I'll try to get posted soon.
It was a great day to shoot and I enjoyed meeting everyone. Heal fast Clint, you took the good natured ribbing well.
Doug I found out that I had inadvertently made off with some of your things. I didn't notice until I got home that I have some of your @#$%^ chiggers, somewhere in the neighborhood of thirty or forty, and I promise I'll figure out some way to return them.
The Bulletwood is going to make some dandy arrows for your Elk hunt. I may get around 30 shafts out of those slats. The Cedar is going to be as expected. Reeeaaal purty but weak in the business department. I'll dip some of them and post a pic later.
Gotta go and tend my @#$%^ chigger bites.
Dennis
Hey Dennis, you may think I'm crazy, but rub some plain ole white stick deodorant, like Speed Stick, on those chigger bites. It's by far the best thing I've found for the itching. Re-apply as needed.
Hey, I grew up on the farm so I usually put some faith in the 'home-brew' remedies for what ails ya. Crazy? Just depends on where you're from.
Dennis
Or fingernail polish. I would use the clear!!!!
Here's some pictures:
Rocdoc's shop:
and some of us couldn't hit a deer but hit a tennis ball!!!!!
That's got to be trick photography......ain't no way you can stick a field tipped arra' in a free swingin' tennis ball!!
Oh yeah.....that's NOT a 2 toned shirt that Randy's wearin'.....pure, undiluted, good 'ol SWEAT!!
Randy....that picture of Bob WORKING on a stave could be worth big bucks......no-ones ever seen that before!!
Dennis.......The chiggers were a GIFT! It's very impolite to return gifts!!!
rocdoc,
Chiggers ain't no "GIFT"...they are a curse. But it was nice of you to share. :)
Seeya at Mojam and BTW,watch out that the Missouri folks don't share some chiggers too.
Sorry I missed the gathering. Looks like a great time. Bondo had a pretty good turn out in NW Arkansas too. A little knapping and a lot of shooting. Hey Doug, you might want to pm Bondo, if you are still planning on going on the Elk hunt with the guys.....Terry
