Title: New Hill Bow
Post by: Dick in Seattle on June 24, 2007, 12:28:00 PM
Some two months back, the Howard Hill Longbowmen got agreement from Craig at Hill Archery to make a special model bow to be available to members of the group. We conducted a series of discussions and votes to determine what we wanted the bow to be. In the final analysis, there were a few points on which we couldn't get a concensus, so the bow ended up being called the "Longbowman's Choice", with a selection to be made between yew or osage for the limbs and Texas ebony or cocobolo for the riser and tips. We've all been sweating it out waiting for the completion and arrival of the first bows. I got mine yesterday afternoon, and took extensive pictures to complete our web page on it.

Here (hopefully) are a few pictures. There are many more, plus the narrative on the project, to be seen on the HH Longbowmen web site. Go to the index and scroll down to the link for the "Longbowman's Choice"...

The last one is kind of fuzzy... a special silver inlay done by Craig's silversmith... a Howard Hill broadhead.

Wow! I like it. That is just my kind of bow. I'll bet she's a shooter too. Good luck and congrats on your new bow.

Got a question elsewhere and thought I'd better answer it here, too... re the construction... what you're looking at is a lam of osage, then carbon (the think black stripe), then bamboo, then cocobolo (the red strip in the middle, mostly for effect), then bamboo and finally osage again on the belly.   All under clear glass, of course.

Bow is 66" and 45# @ 25".

Hi Dick,

I actually had a chance to look at your bow when I was in Hamilton a couple of weeks ago.I asked Craig if he had any limited edition or special bows in the works and he told me about the Longbowmen's Choice. It was of course in production at the time, so it was far from looking as good as it looks now, but I was able to get a good sense of how it would look. It is a beauty!

Have fun with it.

Ain't a visit to Hamilton a kick!?   I went back in April.   It's really an experience.

I documented my visit on the web site.  Here's a link with pix of the shop, etc.

how do I join, I have always been a fan of hill style bows, have a hill style selfbow, but it has dropped in poundage, I am currently looking for the perfect straight gripped d shaped bow, and the above bow looks perfect, how do I get one of these bows?

Ian... they are available to members of The Howard Hill Longbowmen.  Membership requirement is pretty straightforward... enthusiasm for Howard Hill bows and participation on the Howard Hill Longbowmen's email list.   The latter is a group of, so far, roughly 80 guys who shoot Hills.  Check out the web site at the links above and you'll find a link on how to join...  pretty simple, or, if you have trouble, just email me.   The list is pretty active... as I said, these are enthusiastic guys, so you you can expect a lot of mail, and it is direct email... not a check in site like Trad Gang.   There is a daily digest option you can select.

Sure... it's interest and enthusiasm that makes the group.  There really are no requirements beyond that.

To steal a famous quote:  "I'm baaack...."

The original post here was/is simply a sharing of my enthusiasm for a very beautiful new bow that I think is kind of special.
We share pretty bows all the time.  I thought this bow was unique in that it resulted directly from a design discussion by a small group of enthusiasts.  It isn't offered as a commercial model, but is only available only to members of that group.  My post was interpreted as a commercial promotion or revew and got moved to the Product Review Forum, but that has been straightened out and it was put back in PowWow.  I apologize for the confusion and thank the Administrators.

I don't have to worry about the Dog house.
It's just that I have a Champaine taste and a Happy Hr. Beer budget....
And I always have the I wants....
I want a new Hill bow.
I want a new Horse Bow.
I want a new Sentman bow.
Not to mention Cold Steel stuff.

I suspect you're thinking of the "Wild Boar".  It was a limited edition bow... only 50 made.

The bow turned out great, Dick.  I'm heading over to Craig's sometime this week for a long overdue visit...aren't you jealous...

I'm thinking of a Cheetah with an extra lam of 'boo.

Love that silver HH head...
