Because of my shooting style I need a bow with a fairly tall sight window. My Check Mate Hunter II is tall enough but my Bob Lee Hunter is just too short. As best as I can tell I need something around 4 inches or more. I've seen a Dale Dye Good Medicine and a Wes Wallace mentor that have a tall sight window but both are pushing my price range. What other bows fit the criteria of the tall sight window in a take down recurve?
Thanks,
Doug
Doug,
I take it you're not interested in metal-risered bows. If you are, most of the metal risers have adequate sight windows.
Black Widow PMA - they have large sight windows.
If you like the Bob Lee, I think they make a longer riser that has a longer site window
Doug,
Check out Bob Morrison's C riser. You can not go wrong with his bows.
Chris
What is your price limit?
I don't know your price limit, but Wes Wallace's recurves are as good as anything out there. I've got two now, and a third on the way. Smooth, quiet, and pretty fast, although nobody ever says anything about this. I have a grey stealth that is 54@28, 62", that I would part with for about $350, now that I've got two Mentors. Let me know if you are interested. Paul.
Chek-mate Sabre. It's a target style td, with a huge sight window. Over-all length is longer (62" being the shortest, up to 68"), but a lot of folks use them for hunting bows. Long, heavy riser--very stable.
Chad
Yeah go with the longer risers.I am the same way and like risers with big windows. The Quinn bows off nice long windows at great prices.
Doug,
You can also go to Berry game calls and click on the JD Berry bows link. Page four has JD'S New recurve. It has a large site window. Just one more bow to look at.
Thanks for the feedback so far,
I prefer not to have a metal riser. My budget is probably somewhere around $600, I could possibly go more if the bow just blew me away. This will be my primary deer hunting bow and while I try to take good care of my stuff I anticapte this one will get scratched up some. Pulling bows in and out of treestands in the dark seems to leave some marks. I appreciate the offer on the Wes Wallace as I like those bows but my weight range is going to be 45-47@28 inches. How long is the wait on a new Wes Wallace now?
Thanks,
Doug
It took me 8 months to get my new Mentor from Wes. I would just give him a call. I have hunted a lot with his bows.
Mike
Can't say enough about my Black Widow PMA-V(Ironwood). This bow has the long site window ad is very smooth and easy to pull. Friends have told me the this bow is extremely quiet for a BW.It pulls 53 pounds at my 28 inch draw length and is 62 inches long. It not only shoots great, it is great looking to boot. Highly recommend this bow. By the way, if you contact BW they will let you test drive a PMA. Good luck.
Doug,
I have never had one but the pictures of the Rivers Edge T/D Recurves I have seen appear to have tall sight windows as do Sovereign T/d recurves. Like Bill Turner, I believe the Widow MA style recurves have a fairly tall sight window and so do Hummingbirds, which I believe are made in your neck of the woods.
I will also say Black Widow PMA. I shoot a PSA but I cant a bit so it works for me.
Bill
My new Wes Wallace is due about September, he had an open spot somewhere because of a cancellation, but otherwise he told me to expect about 8 months on a normal order. Sometimes he has new bows in stock; you should give him a call, you get a lot of bow for the money, compared to other high dollar bows. His Mentor with all the bells and whistles will set you back about $800, compared to over a thousand for a comparable Blactail, Widow, Robertson, etc. Another bow to look at is the Fox, very similar in design to a Wallace, pretty reasonable, usually not a huge wait for a new one. Good luck, Paul.
Test drive a PMA Widow. If it works out,you can get a nice used one in your price range. If you decide in a couple years to sell it you will get all your money back.
Yup Sovereign Ballstyks have very long risers and a large sight window. Shawn
Ed Mikuta td recurve has a the longest sight window that I have had, average sight window, but a very long riser!, good price too, contact joe skipp on here for more info
Fedora 560 TD, Morrison B or C riser, etc. I shoot straight up and down and need the longer sight window also.

Chek-mate Sabre.
That's an excellent recommendation! I used to have one, but traded it for a longbow. For the money, you can't beat 'em.
The Howatts and Martins I've had or shot all had fairly tall sight windows, especially compared to some the custom bows I've seen. My guess is that they've been at least 4 inches and probably more.

Robertson Falcon in the long riser version, dandy bows!

Thanks for all the help,
I've been watching the classifieds for something used, this gives me some more bows to keep an eye out for. At some point I imagine I'll end up ordering a new bow of some type if I can decide on one I want that fits my budget.
Thanks,
Doug
