Title: Blood letter arrows
Post by: Injun on June 20, 2007, 12:22:00 AM
I read an advertisement several years ago about some hollow wooden shafts with the holes drilled in them for letting a good blood trail. If anyone knows of anything like that still available let me know. I'm just now getting my feet wet in traditional and am also in the market for a lefty longbow. Thanks ddawg71@hotmail.com

I remember those but I thought they were aluminum arrows. Hap

I would think that with bloods rapid coagulation it would just clog the holes, I do remember the shafts though.

Plus, I bet they whistled like a flute.

If I remember correctly, they were fluted aluminums rather arrows with holes in them.  I think Dan Fitgerald or Dave Embry (wonder what ever happened to him) endorsed them.  I shot some, and they flew fine, but I can't imagine they made the blood trail any better.

I've got some...no real differences noted...they were fluted.

A good double lung pas- through with a sharp W.W. will work better I bet!!

I still have a bunch of those in aluminum. They were called shear-advantage. The arrows have a etching around the shaft every inch and a half or so. Supposedly the arrow would break off clean at these etchings instead of crimping. This along with the shear-advanage broadhead which had a hollow ferrule would allow a clear aiway to the lungs to deflate them etc.
I bought them because the local dealer couldn't get rid of them and sold them really cheap on clearance. Mine are autumn orange 2018's if I remember correctly. They were as tough as any xx75 I ever shot and I never had one break at the etching lines. If somebody wants one I could probably dig them out and send you one.

I agree, unless the animal was up drinking some human alcohol consumption all night out of the spilled keg, which could have been one of my many Irish/German relatives, their blood would be too thick to not clog up the fluted hole. Like all ideas, some make and this one obviusly didn't or would be with us now.
