Title: I could use some help with the kids saturday
Post by: Jason Lester on June 18, 2007, 05:42:00 PM
OK here is the deal. I am a 4H archery instructor. Our club is havin an outdoor day (6-23) to include all of our shooting sports. I'm planning on letting all the kids make an arrow (if I have enough) I'm preping the shafts and they get to fletch and personalize them. Or that is the plan. I also would like to bring my bow building stuff and the bows I have to show them how to make a bow. My problem is I think I may not be able to show all these things to them unless I get some help. Anyone free saturday during the day to help out with the kids.

Oh and if anyone knows how to Flint knap the kids would love that. (me too.) I know its probably a streatch but it can't hurt to ask.

Let me know if your interested in helping a great group of kids.

Thanks
Jason Lester

Ask Ferret. He lives right there and Mickey is a stand-up guy.

I do youth programs in NC and I know what you can expect.

We once had a club meeting and I asked how many members wanted to have a youth program. All hands went straight up. Then I ask who could help with youth events. No hands went up.

Now I just do the programs through the shop (Eagle's Flight Archery) and will sometimes go it alone. Last few events have worked out pretty good though. Canopy, tables, target butts, and volunteers were provided.

It's a great feeling working with kids (and sometimes their parents), showing primitive tools, cordage, weapons, etc. and then letting them have a try at shooting a bow. For many of them it's their first time to shoot a bow, and most of them are fascinated.

Good luck Jason, and I'm sorry that I can't help you out. My suggestion is to do the critical stuff yourself (like SAFETY, equipment, etc.) and try to get help with the other items.

These kids are all 4H shooting sports kids. They have all been in the club for at least this year. We should have other archery instructors to run the range and do all the saftey stuff. I'd just like to get them interested a little more into the traditional side of things.

If no one can help its no biig deal. I just figured I'd ask. I should have been a little more ahead of things asking for help. Oh well. I'll try to take a bunch of pictures and post them after its all done.

Jason

Where in Cincinnati? I am in Harrison and I am doing Girl Scout day camp archery Wednesday and Thursday from 12 - 6.

Next week I am working with the Cub Scouts in Bright for their Day Camp.

I have a commitment already for Saturday, but if it is critical I could get away in the late afternnon.

Sepp,

We are over by ings Island. We had girl scout day camp a week or so ago. At least this year it was dry last year we got realy wet.

As far as it being critical... not realy. I just thought it would be nice to have a little help.

You know I just realized I forgot to mention that lunch and dinner is provided. LOL

Seriously Sepp if you have previous arrangments don't worry about it. But if you do feel like it you help would be apreciated.

The event is at Irons Fruit Farm just outside of Lebanon.
