I want to buy a longbow I allready have a kemph stealth recurve, Should I buy a flat bow or a true longbow which will be the best proformance and the best shooting

I both buy and build longbows, and own and shoot and hunt with both straight longbows and hybrids that are really flatbows with reflex/deflex, like the Black Widow or Thunderhorn bows.
If you're buying a bow rather than building it, my personal experience and preference and aesthetics have led me to the r/d versions, which are especially friendly to former and still-part-time recurve shoots, as I was for many years. I think the r/d longbow is just the best of both worlds, in every way. How much do you want to spend? That's essential when asking for "best" advice. Good luck, dave
I recently purchased a used Mikuta longbow,with the recurve style grip and with the thumbrest it was just like picking up my old recurve... Great shooting bow

Gord I don't know where you are at in Alberta but NALS is in Big Valley this year and I know there will be a few bowyers there ( it runs June 29,30 and July 1 ) it may be too late too register but it wouldn't cost any thing to just drive down and talk to the guys there. If that doesn't work for you the ATBA has thier jamboree the long weekend in August and there will be boyers there as well or if you are ever down south look me up and you can come shoot mine Good luck and have Fun!! You can not go wrong with a Cari-Bow Silver Fox. And they are made in Canada. I.E. no customs duties. Great shooting bows.

I am with you on your love for metal risered bows. Especially of the DAS persuasion! That being said I still have my PAW Somerset longbow and I don't think I will ever get rid of it. That bow just fits me and I LOVE shooting it. I am more consistant and accurate with my DAS and my DAS gives me a much higher level of performance but the Somerst still puts a big smile on my face. (and venison in the freezer!) That's something that can't be quantified.
No brainer...try before you buy and you'll know; or have some idea.
And if you get a used bow at a fair price and change your mind; you should be able to turn it without a great loss.
I don't believe that anyone here can tell you what the best for you will be.
I couldn't tell you which bow of mine is the 'best'.
They all have different traits that endear them to me; but none of them may suit someone else.
Who knows; the best bow may turn out to be one you make.

The North American Longbow Safari is being held in Alberta this year in a couple of weeks. You can do a web search and get the specifics as to time and location. I am sure there will be bowyers there and you can shoot many different styles and designs. Most guys are willing to discuss the bows they are carrying and would be willing to let you take a couple of shots, at least I would. I know Alberta is BIG but it might be worth the drive. Probably your best opportunity to see lots of different longbows.
Gord just so you know I have a Silver Fox and will have it at NALS and the ATBA shoot and you would be more than welcome to shoot it also I know Pete Ward will be there and he always has a ton of bows with him and he is willing to let guys try them out so if you can try to make the trip and I hope to see you there Delin

Forgot to mention in my post I will be in Alberta for the shoot. Pickup will be a darkblue Dodge 2007 1 ton pulling a Fleetwood offroad popup tent trailer gray in color. I have a 66" Liberty bamboo cored 60# @ 27" you can try if you want.

Hi Gord, Any time you want to shoot any I have just give me a shout. I will have a bunch for the folks to try at the Safari and the Jamboree.
If you are asking about Jacks bows , I prefer his Little grizzly with the small grip over his Trophy Hunter longbow, but that is just my personal choice of 2 very good bows. The little Grizz is available from 48" up to 60 or 62", and as you know I have a 50" that I think you shot.
