I have some Easton Legacys 2117 that I have cut to 30" with 175gr field tips on them. My bow is 55#@28". I am going to do more bareshaft tuning this weekend. But just curious is a slight barrel roll clockwise a sign of shaft weak? The bareshafts were hitting about 4" low and right with nock high and left.
My buddy shoots a 2117 in a 52lb recurve at a 27in. draw with a 125gr tip. You may be a little weak
try 190 gr. feild tips.
Me thinks you are stiff, they spine around 80#s and even that long and the point weight I think you are still stiff but ya may be close. I would bareshaft them, your release and form can have a lot to do with the flight you speak of. Shawn
I agree with Shawn on to much spine. Yes you have a longer shaft but you have a lot of weight. The 2117 shaft weights a fair amount plus 175 grains of tip makes a pretty heavy package for a 55lb. bow. Oh yes, what type of bow? Recurve or longbow and how much centershot does it have? These items will cause issues also.
I use 2117, 29in. with 145grain tips from a Bear TD at 60lbs. Those same arrows will not fly from my Hill style longbow at 65lbs. To much spine for it.
Barrel roll? Do you have the proper wing fletched in the proper direction. IE...left wing with left spiral, etc.
If, you bare shafted these (way too stiff, methinks) and you get a barrel roll or slight fishtail, I would suspect nock height. However I agree with those above, probably too stiff. You didn't say what the bow is. Is a centershot recurve? I KNOW they'd be way too stiff for a regulation longbow of that draw weight.
Snag,
What's your actual draw length. Nock point set at ?? Need more specifics.
Sounds like a pretty stiff arrow for 55lbs; probably a 2018 or 2020 should do it.
Again, a LOT depends on your bow and how centershot it is. I shoot 30 inch 2117's and 125 tips out of my 50# @ 29 BW SAIII. But I draw 29"+. and BW's are cut past center. If you are drawing 29" or so, I'd try dropping the point weight.
As you can see....no shortage of opinions here.
I was thinking the same thing as Charlie; barrel roll? Fletching backwards, or to much wieght on one end.
Thanks for the input guys. My draw length is 28". I measured it when I had the Blacktail recurve made. It is center cut. I found that my nock height was off. I lowered it to 5/8". The bareshaft tuning on some carbons worked real good. Now I am going back to the aluminums and see if they will tune. Can you shoot more than one type of arrow out of the same setup? Or does it just take more work to get it done?
