Title: MN bowbuilding weekend pictures
Post by: Holm-Made on June 10, 2007, 06:57:00 PM
Here are some pictures from the bow building weekend held at my place this weekend.  People showed up early on Friday and it started a whirlwind of bow building activity as everyone had their projects they wanted to get done.  Things couldn't have worked out better with the weather, people, knowledge shared, ect.

Great group of guys. I enjoyed their company, thanks.  Chad

First of all, I'd like to thank Chad for the great get together. Also for the patience in guiding in the building of a lam bow (He did most of the work, but I learned a great deal.
Weather was excellent and everyone had a great time.
Here are some pics of the bow I eneded up with. I'll need to do some more shaping, and finishing touches, but it looks beautiful so far. Western Red Cedar limbs over Bamboo, Burgundy Rosewood Dymondwood and Bocote riser. Riser has neat finger grooves and a thumbrest built on.

Fresh out of the cooker:

Overlays, tips, and thumbrest glues up, yes there is a bow amonst all those clamps:

Back of bow, nice Cedar, thank you Chad:

Great weekend, made some new friends and learned a lot of bowbuilding tips.   Thanks to all.

Skunkman made this stave horse that Brian is using.  You can't tell by the picture but it has a tractor seat.

How often can you get not one but two experienced bowyers, each with totally different established designs and tons of knowhow to help newbies out...

What a great group of guys in a beautiful northwoods setting, can't thank Chad enough for hosting this and Badlands for all his expertise as well. The campfire bow deign/hunting story sessions were a hoot.

I'll post some of my pics soon.

A big thanks to all of you for a great weekend, and a special thanks to you Chad for your awsome hospitality.  You knocked yourself out making sure that everyone had a quality experience and I for one realy appreciated it.

Don't sell yourself short Mike. We all learned a lot from you too, with your home made lamination grinder and home made carbon strips.

Brad

Bentpole, that bow if off from Chad's form. Have only put a few arrows through it, but feel great and sends an arrow downrange with authority.
Chad was definately a busy man all weekend.
Lam grinder, radius jigs, and the self bow bench were all cool too.

Yup
The glass, sanding block and riser block were mine.
I've just started unpacking, but so far I have your carpenters square, a disc sander and one of your tape measures.
No worries, we'll deal with it some day.

I'll have to double check, but the camo stool may be mine. Can you tell if it is the triagle shaped Gander Mountain stool?
