Title: '50s style recurve
Post by: John Nail on June 10, 2007, 08:57:00 AM
I've been romancin' a 1950s style recurve for some time now. A disease, I guess. Anyway, at Cloverdale I shot the Black widow verson, and it was a nice bow. Shot several used ones for sale up there.....then stopped at Ancient Spirit's booth. Big mistake! Mine is 60 inch 55@28 Bamboo limbs, Walnut riser......8^)

Those Ancient Spirits bows are NICE!  I have a Sequoia and really like the Kadiak.  Congrats on the new bow and I would like to see some pics also.

what a sweet bow!
I tuned it for 2018s cut to 30". These finish out right at 560gr. perfect flight, ALMOST as quiet as my longbows, and smooth as a baby's butt. I'm getting a consistant 177fps with my hunting(static) release. Suits me, and darn pretty.

Plain bamboo doesn't appeal to everyone, but I happen to like it

I should have had the flash off for this shot, but the tips are perfect

Just a real nice, 1950s style recurve

I just bought an Ancient Spirits Kadiak one piece at  Compton. JD said he just started tinkering with this one becasue it's only 56" long.  I gotta say I ran it through a chrony last night, it's #46 @ 28" (I draw 28") and it consistantly shot my 580gr AD Trad Heavies in the low to mid 160s.  Doesn't seem too shaby at 12.5 grains per pound , pretty darn quiet too. Just my .02...

Dude it sounds like my exact story!! A growing love for a 50's recurve. Saw a few E. B. Holcomb kodiaks on e-bay over the last year but that was a no-go. Went to Baltimore Trad and knew Ancient Spirits would be there as last year also, I shot lots of bows there then went to J D's booth, saw a 3-peice take down with osage limbs and WOW! Really Really liked it, I bought it in the end but just brought the limbs home as the riser is being built, talked to J D and it should be here any day now, rushed home today thinking...but maybe tomorrow.

Kinda looks like my Kota. Hope it shoots as well. I love the 50's style recurves too. I can switch back and forth between recurve and longbow and have the same feel to the grip. You should enjoy that one John.

Nice looking bow!  The more I see 50's style bow's, the more I am attracted to one.  I might have to get one when I can talk the wife into it!
