I am planning on making some self nocks and reinforcing it with a thin piece of walnut and wrapping it with artificial sinew. I plan to shoot these out of my 74# bow.
I don't think there would be any problems with the nocks splitting, but wanted to get the thoughts and advice from others.
Thanks, Robert
English warbows were 100# or so, and I'm pretty sure they used self nocks. With your reinforcement, there shouldn't be any problem.
The only self nocks I ever broke were too small for the string, and broke due to the wedge effect.
The only self nock I ever broke was from a hit from another arrow.
With the reinforcement spine and a wrap you should be fine. All of the pressure is on the bottom of the nock throat and not the sides. Pat

yeah as Scattershot said English warbows were powerful things we have a guy over here (Mark Statton i think)who has just broken the world record for drawing and loosing a 200lb English longbow and i am pritty shure he used self nocks so 74lb should be no problem
