Title: Best feathers for Gizzly broadhead
Post by: Roeman on June 01, 2007, 05:06:00 PM
Hi there
Im in the proccess of putting together a set of carrbon arrows, which will be built around a set of 190grn Grizzly broadheads and would be grateful of your oppinions on the best feathers for the job.It would be very helpful to hear your preferances on size, shape and helical twist and your reasons for the choice.

Thanks in advance.

3, or 4 -4 inch parabolic right wing. Because the broadhead is built to spin WITH right wing feathers..and because carbons properly tuned to your bow don't go through paradox like woods or aluminums and therefore in my opinion don't really need all that big feather steering stuff like the traditional materials we used to use..

I generallylike three 5-inchers, through force of habit, but Ray is right on.

I have found 4 four inch bannanas to do a fine job of stabalizing carbons.

5 inch parabolic with slight helical left or right doesn't matter. Jonesy

With all due respect to those who posted, I believe the man was asking about best fletch for shooting Grizzly Broadheads.  The Griz is specially ground to create a torque or spinning motion upon impact that is best suited for right wing feathers.  (4) four inch Right wing feathers mounted on a helical twist will do you quite well.  The 5 1/2 inch banana cut feathers will get you spinning quicker but ultimatley will create a lot of drag, thereby effecting your down range velocity in a negative way.

Short answer:  (4) four inch feathers, helical twist is what you want for the Grizzly Broadhead.

FYI, I've been slotting those Grizzly's w/ a dremel tool and the Magnus Bleeders fit right in there nicely for those that want the option of converting to a 4 blade Grizzly.

Mike, Most trad archer's use some kinda helical, havent known one yet to use a straight fletch as far as left or right jury is still out on that one.

It is sorta splitting hairs BUT........if you use a broadhead sharpened like a magnus then the left right doesn't matter. It is personal preference.

If you shoot a grizzly...the verdict is reached.  :readit:  .it will penetrate better and cut more (spiral wound channel) if you use right wing feathers. It is designed to turn that way when going thru the critter. Why turn the arrow the opposite way?????

And I'll throw in yet again that right wing is preferred for the Grizzly.

Grizzly's fly very well, if your bow is tuned you won't need a whole lot of fletching unless you simply prefer it.  I often use 3 five inch standard profile parabolics and that's clearly more than necessary.

Thank you all very much for your input.
This confirmis the advice given to me by Sid at Border Archery(not that I doudt his advice, but Im just about to buy a few hundered feathers).I was just interested if there was any counter advice.
I am left-hander and only use right wing feathers and fletch with 4" or 5" parabolics,so once I get these shafts bare-shafting well Ill try both and see what I get.

Thanks again for you help.
