Thought I might post some pics of another "tiger stripe" selfbow. This is the third one that I have attempted. On this bow I only stripped it from one direction, left to right and then flipped it end for end and did the same again. It gave a dark to light fade from one side to the other which is the effect I was after. What do you think of it?
This bow is made from osage billets. It is just over 57"ntn ,,70lbs@28" with almost 2" wide limbs that taper to 1/2" at the tips.

Sweet looker
WOW! Is that beautiful!! See that Dave, 57" and 70#. I can fix you up!
The 30" draw might put a damper on that though Kenny.
What do you think Flatstick. 58", 50-55# with a 30" draw possible? If so what would you recommend for dimensions?
I'm talkin Osage selfbow.
Kenny
Flatstick, how did you get that color and the stripes?
Bill
Now that is an impressive bow. Wow!
I really like that stripe thinng you have going on. Hope you share your secrets with the rest of us. That bow is incredable. Wow! Mike

Beautiful bow! I like the slight recurved tips, gives it an awesome side profile. But the finish is the real selling point.
Nice work!!
That is a great looking bow, good job.
David
That is nice!
like them osage's :bigsmyl: .........and really like the stripe effect  :notworthy:
Pretty little bow, brace height looks high to me. Should be about 5 3/4" looks to be about 7".
70# gads..I can't imagine.
This looks like a perfect tiller!!!
Great job done.
looking good, and 70 pounds you guys are tough.
Bue--.
Fantastic bow. Could you share some tips on that striping? I have a bow I made for my little boy that I have to finish up and that striping would look awesome on it. Thanks.
Aaron

Thanks for the compliments,...I'm checking this thread from work at the moment so I'll have to answer your questions when I get home later. DANG IT !! There goes the phone again gotta go.
Very Cool!
.....only 70#...I guess age is finally catching up with Rich. That's about a 15# drop in bow weight in the last few years! Looks great buddy! You gonna shoot that one at Cloverdale? Mike
All I can say is WOW!!!
Thanks Mike,,,hard tell'n what kind of weight I'll be shoot'n when I get your age :p ! I'll be shoot'n this one at Cloverdale. But I don't know now about the Compton shoot, I'm being sent to Wisconin that week for training, I just found out.
BEAUTIFUL BOW, Richard! Now I've just got to figure out how to get one of your bows :bigsmyl: Don Wilson
OK I'm finally home from work,,,can't really complain it pays the bills.
Bodark & wyatts daddy,,,,,the tiger stripes are a staining technique that I have been experimenting with for a couple years. Now that we have a new digital camera I plan on putting together a "How To" thread and posting it. You can do a search on here for "fiddle back finish" and find threads on this type of staining. That's how I got started on this. I've just tried various ways to apply the stains to get different looks.
Ferret,,,Good eyes Bud! The brace is a hair under 7" but this is where my arrow flight and "arm slap" both seem to be best. I'll usually start out real low and slowly raise it till it stops slapping my arm/wrist as much. I've got "Popeye" forearms as one friend says,,it takes a higher brace to get away from them.
4runr,,,58" with a 30" draw could really be pushing an unbacked bow. Not saying it can't be done with the right piece of wood. A 2 1/4"-2 1/2" wide and thin limb with slightly reflexed tips to keep the string on. It's possible but it would have to be a really clean piece of wood.
That's Purty! If you ever over shoot your weight by about 20#, I have a peg waiting for it!

Ahh, understand...that's where it should be then. Will just put a little extra strain on the wood at brace. No biggie.
WOWZERS!!! THAT IS STUNNING!<><
Very nice bow. Jawge
Not only is the bow a beauty but it must shoot well too!! The proof is in the 3-D buck in the back ground of photo 2.
Thanks Tim,,,,I wish I could say that I shot that target out in a day or two with this bow by myself. But to be honest there are evenings around here there might be 6 or 7 of us standing out there shoot'n. We can shoot one out pretty quick. :)
Another fine looking bow Richard...I've admired your bows for quite some time here on tradgang ....Thanks for sharing.
awsome bow!, hope I can make one that nice
That is a cool bow!
Jeff
Very Nice!!
Mike
Good job Richard!! Love that finish!
Very Nice,
And at my draw weight. I have two selfbows that draw 68 and 70 lbs. My main hunting bow is the 70. But I only draw 27 inches.
Some of you guys work magic. Can't imagine I'd ever get even 50# at 28" from a 57" bow. :scared: :scared:
