about a year ago when I got serious about trad, I bought a used lh 50# grizzly, it was only shot a few times becuase I was realy into longbows at the time, it needs a new string and I would like to know when it was made, serial no. kr13696, it has brown glass and a two tone wood riser with inlaid silver meddalion,a zebra hear rest, two different colored lmb tips, it has white streaks on the belly near the limb tip, does this mean its not safe to shoot, where should I go for a custom string?
there are folks here that will make a string.

I think it's a '71 or '72
thanks, what about the white lines in the fiberglass towards the tip?, is it still safe to shoot?
Problem with TG right now...just typed a nice long reply and it got eaten! Anyway, post some pics of the cracks/lines and someone will be able to advise you on that...alot of older Bears have small cracks that are inconsequential but I would want to show them to some of the more knowledgeable TG'rs before I shot it. They can probably also help with the age question. As for the string, I have had great luck with Golden Hawk (LeRoy) here on TG or any of numerous sponsors. I bought a couple of B-50 strings from Mike Horton at The Nocking Point for my old Bear and they are good strings. Good luck and enjoy the Bear....I love mine.
I just had an old Ben Pearson blow up on me and it gave me no indication it was about to go, I'm thinkin any of em can blow whenever. I'd put some thin super glue in the "lines", wipe off the excess, then take it slow, flex it a bit, short-draw shoot it, but if she blows don't blame me!! :) Wear saftey glasses?
I'll post pics tommorow
