After months of consideration, research and sifting through all the fantastic bowyers out there, I finally pulled the trigger and ordered a Montana Whip from Mr. Toelke ( Montana Bows (http://www.montanabows.com/index.html) ). What a nice fellow. He walked me through everything and was very patient. One of the reasons I chose him was that I have a slightly disfigured thumb on my riser hand. He requested a tracing and some pics to custom build the riser and his "thumbrest" for me and my "special thumb". I can't wait to see it and throw some sticks with it. I'll be sure and post pics when she comes in! Pretty excited. I have had production curves and a longbow long ago, but this is my first custom.
Nice choice! I'm sure you'll be very happy with it. I had a Toelke Whip that was flawless. Good luck with it!
You'll like it, i have two of them now.
I have shot this bow I could not get over how light these bows were in physical weight!
Very good shooting bows.
A great guy that builds a great bow! You'll be very satisfied.
My wife The grip he builds is what sold me and made me a believer. You'll have to work to place your hand at the wrong position. It fits that well IMO.
Enjoy. Oh yah the craftsmanship is with the best of the best.
Thanks for the replies fellas! I'm real excited about it. I couldn't spend for the takedown this time, but if I like it enough (and I'm sure I will), I'll end up getting one for longer trips. Dan says he has some real pretty Juniper right now, so I ordered it with a Cocobolo riser and Juniper limb facing. I left the overlays up to him - I thought that might give him some freedom of expression to make the bow even more unique.
ejes, what is Dan's turnaround right now for a bow?
Joe
He said since I ordered a single piece and not a takedown, it could be 8 weeks, but more likely he would have it to me in as little as 6! Personally, with the wait times on others that I researched, I was anticipating a much longer wait, so that was just another positive factor that played into my decision. Pretty amazing turnaround for the kind of quality I am hearing out there about his work.
Class individual and a class longbow. Great choice.
My son and I each shoot Toelke bows as do most of the Trad shooters in our area of NW Montana. Besides building some of the finest bows you will ever shoot, Dan is a big supporter of local clubs/shoots and the Montana Bowhunters Assoc.
I just got a new whip from him 2 mos ago and it is AWESOME! It is faced with the juniper that you are getting and it is NICE.
Smooth draw, good speed, NO noise and NO shock!
You will be very happy.

jcs271, maybe you can help me with something. I see info in your signature that is comparable. I ordered my bow at 55 lbs at 29 inches. When I shot trad years ago I shot aluminum and I am thinking of trying some carbons with this one; I see you shoot the GT trads. My question is this, as a general rule, do carbons need a weeker or stiffer spine for shooting 3 under with a tab like I do, or does that have any effect on it at all? Also, what spine are you using and arrow length there, if I may ask?
Thanks
I have a whip 54# @ 29 1/2" and I shoot Easton Axis 400's 30" BOP. Fly like darts.
Dan makes incredible bows. You will LOVE it. I know I do!!!
