does anyone else have that one bow that you are always coming back to no matter how many other bows you try, for me, its a hill style hickory selfbow, I have shot that bow so many times that I know where the arrow will hit every time
For me it's a custom grip Morrison shawnee 56" 61@28. Just can't put her down for long.
Mine is a bamboo backed osage selfbow 40@27
kodiak magnum,,
My first pronghorn, I hate to think I can replace it with all the bows I buy. But I want what works well, and so far thats it..
'57 Kodiak
I want to be a ONE BOW guy but I don't think it's gonna happen...Love my Black Widow TFV...Just bought a longbow...Found a nice '67 Grizzly...But, but, I just dig that Widow so much... ...
My wife says I'm cheating on my first love... :( ...Can't live with myself now... :o ...Why did I have to answer this post?
... mike ... :banghead: ...
Wives always play that "cheating" card, don't they ;-)
Dan
Fred Bear t/d recurve!
Can't beat my Super Shrew.
Cheers,
Donavan
RER Vortex. Even though I have 5 other RER bows this just seems to me the bow I go to most.<><
Black Widow PSA III, always shoots great for me.
It's a 60" Hummingbird Kingfisher t/d recurve for me.
My Habu T/D, however I'm starting to get awful comfortable and consistent with my Marriah Thermal and I have an RER or order. Not sure yet if I'll hunt with the Habu or the Thermal this year.
BD
My first Bighorn.
I am shooting Black WIdow PL's right now, but the one bow that was "Magic" for me was a MOAB. I am dealing to get a used one as I write this. The PL bows are sweet, but my MOAB had Mojo...I hope the next one does as well! Mike
Sovereign Ballistik, 60", 54#@27". I've had it about 3-1/2 years and it is just "comfortable"
Well now it is my Shrew Classic Hunter and I am confident it be for years to come. However I can pick up a Bear Super K anywhere anytime and shoot the lights out with that bow.
Of the twenty or so bows I own the only one that gets strung in the last two years is my DAS...best hunting bow I ever shot...and I have shot a few since 1951 or so.
It's always a Morrison. I'm still testing though.
Right now I keep floating back to my 80# Shelby Mustang but when I get old and can't handle it any more I'll use my Mag. Handled 70# Bear T.D. for sure (if I can get it away from my kid)
Lynn Harrelson carbon bamboo r/d longbow. I think it is a confidence thing, but I'm shooting a couple of other bows real well that will get some treestand time this fall.

One of Norms beautys Blacktail Elite 62" 50lbs @28" shoots just like she looks. KILLER AND FAST
Brent
Your killin me Brent! Those Blacktails have got to be one of the finest looking bows I have seen. That footed riser is the real deal! I need to get one some day.
Right now, I'm spending some quality time with a 1996 Zipper TD and we a gelling quite nicely, if I say so myself. But that is subject to change at a moments notice. Your mileage may vary...
JL
Chek-Mate Crusader. I still like to check out others, but this one does it for me. After owning somewhere between 60 and 100 different bows, plus shooting lots more, I haven't found one that fits me better.
Chad
Honestly? NO!
I hunted with 2 different bows just last weekend and there are 15 (I think) on my "1st string rack", which means at any time I'd grab any of them to head out the door and hunt with.
My Go-To bow is and has been for a long time a Black Widow MA3 64" 64# at 31". I use it for everything. It has never let me down.
Tim
I don't shoot it much, but the one I just can't seem to get rid of is an Archery Traditions 62"-62# recurve. It only cost me 180 bucks and I shoot it better than any other trad bow I've owned. My favorite selfbow is the "last one I made"!
I probably shoot my ugly old Black Bear the best, but I can't quit on my Mahaska.
Liberty English 53# bamboo cored with myrtlewood veneers. I can go a while without shooting and pick it up and shoot well right off.
UH, nope. Got two on the rack, two on the way, two on order and two at my Bros house. The ones at my house get shot every day, The ones in Texas get shot for a month each year by me and Bubba shoots them every once in a while. I love them all and shoot them all equally well.
Danny
Fred Bear Takedown
I have an old Black Bear Hunter that I bought new in the 80's. I just can't get enough of it. I had Bowdoc give it a makeover 2 years ago and she looks real nice again. She sits right up there with my two longbows and I shoot em all but I can't go very long without shooting the old Bear...like an old friend!
My absolute "Go To" bow is my Black Widow.

However, I know I can grab my Bob Lee, BW TF or my BigHorn. I just got a Morrison Shawnee w/Arapaho limbs that I like a lot too. I really like to shoot many bows but I know I shoot better when I stick to one.
Bill
My bow that I always go back to is an old 21st Century bow, but it seems to get heavier every year.

My Bruin WoodsMaster TD. She's a plain jane but a great shooter.
My Widow PSA V although i have a ACS-CX on order we will see how that goes when it gets here.
The "1" would be my Zipper T/D Standard 60" 52@30. I shoot it well. Used to shoot a Jeffery Archery Mighty Mag 52" 52@28 and when I switched, the difference in acurracy and performance was astounding. Crazy I tell ya!
I did manage to get my hands on a Morrison Dakota at Baltimore and shot lights out with that. Might have to invest in one of those sometime! I think a Border is on my radar next though. :archer:
If I could only have one, which would be a terrible turn of events, it would have to be my silvertip takedown. I have always gone back and forth between it and a couple longbows, however, the 'tip is the one I can pick up anytime, whether I had been shooting it lately or not, and hit what I'm aiming at (or pretty close to it!). I usually need to put a little more time into shooting the longbows well.
I tend to stick with a bow for 8-10 years before I feel the need to try another. I can only shoot one bow good at a time. I'm in my second year with an Ancient Spirits Thunderhawk (60 inch TD, 56 lbs at 28"). It fits me great.
I've been doing this for almost 40 years and its only the 5th bow I've owned. Heres my bow shooting history:
1968 28# Bear Cub Recurve
1973 45# Bear Kodiak Hunter Recurve
1985 65# Alan Rothaar TD Recurve
1997 56# Paul Schwartz Recurve
2006 56# Ancient Sprirts Thunderhawk TD Recurve
I still own all of them. The Thunderhawk is just getting broken in. The Kodiak is still in good shape, probabbly becuase it was the "goto" bow through high school and collage and I didn't shoot as much as I did before or since. The other other three have been used hard and show it.
Mygo to bow at present is my 50#@28" Fox Royal Crown longbow. In about 3 months though, I should be receiving a Border Harrier GL longbow which should give it a run for its money!
Bill
Border Black Douglas Swift right now but I should be receiving my Border Griffin GL which should give it a run for its money!
Schafer Silvertip TD recurve, checkered grip is outstanding and as easy to shoot as anybow I've tried and I've tried alot.
My go to has got to be my RER Vortex, followed in a very close second by my RER T/D.
Postively my Jeff Massie Longbow!!!! I have shot a bunch , but this is the real deal!!!!
I own 5 right now and shoot all of them well. Although for some reason I prefer my longbows over my recurves.
Cari-Bow Silver Fox
Morrison Shawnee with dakota limbs
Blackwidow PSAX osage
Blacktail Elite VL Special Edition
Dryad Bushwhacker will be here in a couple of months or so.
Troy Breeding T/D longbow ( giving to my grandson)
Donald
Double Carbon Centaur! Jr.
Ive got a few but have 2 that I can pick up anytime and shoot well with even if Im in a slump, a 56 in. 66@28 Groves Spitfire Mag I, bow is smooth and smoking fast, can shoot it as 30 yds as good as I shoot my other bows at 20. The other is a 60 in. Sterling Jensen 63@28 T/D curve that I like as much as the Groves and shoot almost as well, its fast and dead quiet.
Mine is an ash selfbow, 67" ntn, 47#@28"
Shot at an eggshell on a string today at 20 yards. Of 9 arrows, 3 were in the shell, others were close. Bow weighs nothing compared to a laminated bow. It's my go to bow.
I have eight bows, a mix of recurve and longbows. But my go to bow is my Howard Hill Big Five, i just seem to hit better with that bow and it's a pleasure to shoot.
My go to is a Sovereign Trident. Smoth, light weight, fast, quiet and shoots where I am looking. Just love the feel and it just fits.
I would have to say my RER Arroyo, it just feels right in my hand. It is fast, smooth and very stable.
Mine is a 62" 52 lb. American Flatbow bow by Jim Belcher.
It hits like it's 60lbs.
Hacksaw
Lots of RER's and Widow's are go to bows. Mine right now is a 64" Treadway longbow. Maybe it's because it still smells new (just less than 3 weeks old) or maybe because it is the only I have shot much since I got it.
66" Seven Lakes very arrow and shooter friendly.
Now I think it's going to be my Kota. Up until I bought it, I always shot the best with my ugly old Black Bear, so it was my go-to bow. Now I'm gonna set it up for bowfishing.
Has to be my 60" Great Plains Original T/D recurve. I can sit that bow down for a year, pick it up and hit dead on. Not the fastest bow around but smooth, silent and deadly!
Go to... My Northern Mist Baraga 59# @ 28"
ACS CX 64" 3-piece 49#@28" Best bow I have ever owned or shot.
