I need information on bow fishing equipment (reels, shaft, points, pound line ect.). Also places to look for equipment. What are your set ups? What works for you? Anything that might make selecting easier. Thanks ahead of time.
go to the nearest Walmart and get the Synergy 4000 reel by shakespeare about $20. Get some Muzzy 150 lb Spectra line. I made my own reel seat, but there some good ones out there. Get a good fiberglass arrow with a slide on it. tune and Then go play.

I've got the Synergy reel and it works very well... it's a bit heavy and upsets the bows balance.
Being hard headed, I had a tough time getting away from the old spool type reels... for the money they work just fine.
When my inheritance comes in ;) I'm gonna get one of those baby bottle lookin contraptions. They seem to work well and are very light weight comparatively.
I spotted some fiberglass driveway markers at Lowe's the other day that would work fine for shafting... and at a $1.50, the right price.
Don't have to look any further than Muzzy for fish points... don't scrimp here.
Safety slides are an absolute must.

I fought it for a couple years, but finally broke down and bought one this year... LOVE IT! I really can't imagine anything working better. The only problem I've experienced so far is catching grief from my lovely wife about paying $70 for a "plastic bottle and string", as she puts it!

The AMS fishing reel or Baby bottle is awesome, if you want to spend the cash. I used to use the wind on like Charlie, which good as well. The baby bottle is better by far IMHO.

The retriever reel is well worth the money, and I'll also say the AMS safety slides are a must. I really like the Muzzy heads, but a new one from Cajun called the "Whaler" has caught my eye--believe I'll try that one if I get to go for stingray again. Might work for 'gator too.

I think the Shur-shot is the best head out there for bowfishing. Very similar to the muzzy but the muzzy is a bit harder to release the barbs because you have to turn the very slimy tip to release whereas the Shur-shot you can grab onto the barbs and turn. More to grab onto. You'll understand later. I always advise getting the "baby bottle" right away so you don't spend extra money on reels that are going to end up in your drawer because they hung up on you in the middle of all the action.
The AMS bottle reels are worth the cash. I love mine. For heads I like Cajun Sting-a-rees, Garpoons and the new Interlock fishead. I agree that the AMS slides are great except for one situation. If you are shooting really huge fish like BIG alligator gar, (or real gators for that matter) the slides will bust on you or the fish will roll and snap the arrow. Under that set of circumstances, I install a piece of coated steel cable thru the head and thru the back of the shaft and tie the line straight to that in a loop that can slide. With that rig, I don't glue down the heads so that after you copnnect, the head will come off and the shafts just sticks out to the side and the cable does all the work. Otherwise, yeah, I love the slides. I also sleeve my glass arrows inside a 2312 aluminum for shooting deep carp over the rocks on some of our clear lakes.

AMS reels are th only way to go, tries the others, they SUCK! they work for a little while, but the AMS it the only way to go...
get the safety slides,
and dont get the Muzzy Stingrays, get the Sting-A-Ree Replaceable Tip points, the barbs bend in the Stingrays...
