Title: carbon/ alumn hybrid??
Post by: String Tracker on May 20, 2007, 08:43:00 PM
this weekend while at BBTC I was checking the local drop bucket of arrows and my son ran across a 5/16 th" carbon shaft with Id guess 3/8" x 4 inch alumninum adapter then insert and then tip.   wished i had gotten pic of it

is this something wierd or ???????????

well i know that a couple companys make arrows that are aluminum with carbon over it. such as the easton A/C/C. i don't know how they preform but i would guess they would be tough. easton also makes an arrow called a full metal jacket that is carbon with aluminum over it. i don't think i will find out how any of these shoot any time soon because they are about $70.00 per six shafts  :scared:

Some guys will fit a piece of aluminum over the tip of the carbons.  Carbons are tough as is, but this makes them nearly indestrutible!  There was a chart around here recently that showed what size aluminums work with different shafts, but I didn't find it at first glance.  I'll keep looking....

Yep, I've heard of folks footing carbons with sections of aluminum shafts.  Makes for a very tough arrow, from what I hear.

Works really well too. Makes an already tough shaft almost bomb-proof...

Carbon Arrows are tough!...Just weak on the ends...If you miss a 3D target and hit a tree the shaft will crack in front behind the point...Sometimes the nock will push into the rear of the shaft and crack it there...

SOOOooooo...When you "foot" or sleeve the shaft with 1 1/2" or more of aluminum in front and sometimes the back they become super tough!!!

I did this on my Carbon Express Rebels...1 1/2" of 2216 over a bit of arrow wrap and good to go!
