Just so Ferret doesn't think he has the only photogenic turkeys on the planet, I woke this morning to the sound of a gobbler at my new house!
Been here about two/three weeks, and have maybe 50 -100 acres of undeveloped land right behind the house (I own 4 of them) and the wife told me when I had left for work the other day she had seen a gobbler strutting on the next door lot, which is just cleared, but nothing built there.
So last night I went out with a box call about 30 minutes before dark and called a little...and got some answers but it sounded like he was already on the roost.
So here we are this morning...and this love sick fella came to find the little vixen who was talking to him last evening.
It's the biggest bodied, thickest bearded turkey I have ever seen in the woods of Georgia- he is probably 23-25 lbs..and you can't see it but his spurs are close to 1 1/2 inches too! Come on March 2008!

hey Ray, good pic, and you can use the "silt fence " for a ready made blind :bigsmyl:
I believe I could have stood on my back deck in my shorts and t shirt, called him up and shot him this morning, W Tim..he was acting mighty lonesome!
Ray you got yourself an oven stuffer right there. that is some big bird!
Turkey season already over in Gawga Ray?
Nice bird.
Danny

wow!!!! wow!!!!!!!!!! :) Im so jelious Ray!!!!hope the smoke from the fires hasnt made it bad for ya buddy!!! :wavey:
Man that thing has a rope hanging on his chest.
It is great fun seeing wildlife from your deck. Hopefully they won't develop the land around youso quickly that they push them out.
Hmm wonder what you'll see come deer season :bigsmyl:
Wow, That's some gobbler bud
you should see the buck (no antlers of course) but the body was just unreal, with his nose to the nose of my fallow rinehart target down behind the deck...his forehead was wide, and he had a real roman nose...a swayed belly, deep chest...some of the neighbors say there's a big twelve pointer that runs with all the does in this block of timber in the fall...I think I just saw him a few evenings ago.

Guess where I will be spending my time next september through december???????
Nice bird Ray. Good luck with it and the deer. I am glad that it seems you are enjoying your new house.
:bigsmyl: Nice... That's a Healthy Gobbler for sure. Hold on to those lots as long as you can, they'll probably be some honey holes as the houses are built.
Yeah, that's a shooter. We are still hunting up here, but the gobbles have been scarce.
