I am fairly new to traditional archery and I have a problem. I have been looking for a short brimmed hat to wear when I shoot my recurve. I have one but it is still hits my string. I hate having to turn my ball cap around. I'm looking for something like the one Larry D. Jones wears. If anybody has one or knows where to find one I would appreciate it. Thanks,
Chris
Check out the Sponsor's of Trad Gang.....many of them carry hats.
speaking of hats...where's my salad topper, Terry??? It's been a year.
OK OK.......I'll get on it!!!
Large or extra large Sir?

Thats it I'm never trusting that one again. :knothead: Should know better :D
Brent
Vance you keep them pictures to your self. Or I'm coming out there.
I second the Noggin Tops. Great hats.
I saw on the Sweat thread that Terry also used one of those australian hats with the side of the brim pinned up. How'd that work for you?

I looked in Wal-Mart, found a big shelf (Men's Dept). full of Fedora's. Very short brims, light weight canvas? (cloth) perfect for summer. $9. I'm bald and need the protection from the sun.
Find an old felt crusher.
My Old Felt Crusher Hat
George D. Stout
It came not in a fancy box adorned with Asian Silk
It can't be classed as haute couture, or any of that ilk
It's just a simple brown felt hat that has no pedigree
More suited to an archer's camp, than a fancy shivaree
It hangs there by a single nail upon my bedroom wall
It's walked with me on pleasant days; in snow and northern squall
To keep the rays of sun at bay, or turn away the rain
Then back upon the wall once more, until we go again
It can not fletch a single shaft, nor string my favorite bow
It simply sits upon my head no matter where I go
It's topped the hill in morning mist upon a well-worn trail
To catch the beat of hurried hooves, and fleeting, raised white tail
Perhaps it's hard at outward glance for one to understand
The qualities that lie beneath the felt and leather band
Some folks would think it rather quaint, while others turn their nose
Yet beauty, such that lives within, is not easily disclosed
It dwells inside the pressed wool felt, beneath the stitch and band
Awaiting just the knowing touch of the archers hand
When once again we take the trail in search of this and that
Just me, my bow and arrows, and my old felt crusher hat
Great poem George!
Call Dave Doran at Archery Past in OR he has a short billed bball camo hat for $5
Or go to **** type in daisey mae and get a real WWII floppy hat that is herringbone twill-last longer than you'll be alive!
Okbowman try Akubra hats.I wear the Drover its got A wide brim but its soft and it will roll back if you pull the string to it.
Charlie Brown.
Charlie,
I have one that I had the brim trimed to 1 7/8th inches.
Did anyone mention... Stormy Kromer!? Now there's a Northwoods hat for ya'! :goldtooth:
i like the "old Jones Style hats"........vintage and TRADITIONAL
Try the "Radar" style caps. They have a short brim and come in lots of materials for various weather.
Dan
George D Stout,
I want a book of your poetry. It would be a great injustice to the world if you don't have one published. The sentiment captured in your poetry is exactly what the traditional archery world needs to keep alive no matter what weapon we choose to use.It is that spirit that is the difference to me.
Ditto on the Noggintops address from Jack Shanks. I bought that exact hat from them. Well made and works well. Flints
How about a Trad Gang do rag.

A boonie hat is my favorite. They come in about every color, camoflauge, material, and just about any price you want if you look around a little. Plus it has a soft short bill that provides protection all the way around.
I just wear a welders cap. It has a brim that is very flexible. Welders wear them turned to one side or the other so that when they have to weld while underneath something it keeps sparks out of their ears. OUCH!!! TMG.
George, from one poet to another, my hat...er hats are off to you sir. :clapper:

I dont know if I want to hunt with Ron, now that I know he has the Top Hat from Frosty the Snowman. Did ya have to sneek up on him? Was it a quartering away or broadside shot?
Phil
Noggin Tops has a good selection. I find that @2 1/2" brim is good for me. Found a waxed cotton hat in the bargin bin at Gander Mountain for $9 that has been working great for the last couple years.
Did ya ever wonder why One OLD Man would need so many TOP COVERS
Ya kinda wonder what he hides from and what one might find in his SHADE covered PAST :biglaugh: :biglaugh:
HEY! I resemble that remark!
I can't help it Vance, I just like hats...what can I say
:biglaugh:
What does a telephone kiss and a straw hat have in common?
Neither is felt.
