How do I put a serving on a string I made if I don't have a bow that it will fit? I am making it for someone else. Can I try to hang it with a weight on it to stretch it and serve it while it is stretched?
Chris
I would recomend making a jig similar to the one used for making an endless loop string. If you are only going to use it once, take a piece of 2x4 that is slightly longer than the string and screw a piece of 1/2" dowel to each end sticking up vertical from the board. Slide a loop over each dowel and serve. If it will be used more often then you need to make one end where it can be moved. If you want more details or a drawing shoot me a PM. I hope this helps, TMG.
if you just want to put the serving on it hammer two 4 " nails in to ya bench put one end on one nail then pull it hard and nail the other nail in . no problem it works and you dont have to make a jij just for one string.
Great idea Ho'Nehe, I didn't think of that because I don't have a bench. I work at the kitchen table or at the table on the balcony. Apartment life is grand. LOL. TMG. :knothead: :banghead: :biglaugh:
I have an U-shaped work area. I put an eye bolt on the 2x4 just under the counter top on one side and drilled a series of holes in the 2x4 straight across from the eye bolt 2x4. I then use a J hook and a screen door spring with an S-hook attached to both ends of the spring. I hook one end of the spring S-hook to the string and then to the eye hook and then stretch the string across to the other work bench putting a good amount of tention on the string. I insert the J-hook into the appropriate hole securing the J-hook to the 2x4 with a nut. I then attach the other end of the string to the spring's S-hook and stretch it across to the J-hook and slip the string loop onto the J-hook. I put my serving on while it is stretch holding onto the string so it doesn't twist while the serving it put on.
Man I hope that wasn't confusing but this system works great.

All you need is a ratchet strap, some rope, and a little creativity.

truck bumper to ???
You get the idea.
Thanks for all the ideas!
