I am now announcing dates for next years Texas Sweat. I generally wait till closer to December to announce the dates but I have a new ranch, ranch owner, and a whole new outlook for the future of this awesome event.
Each year as the hunt winds down and I try and measure the fatigue I find myself wallowing in I say "never again". Then each year as everyone returns to their daily lives after the hunt I begin to see how the comaradrie of this hunt has forged such bonds between a brotherhood of men from around the world. It is then that I begin planning the next years event all over again. So, after a long talk with the new land owner who will graciously allow us the use of his 97 square mile ranch, we've decided on some dates. We are moving the Sweat into Feburary due to a close season on javelina on Feb 24th. The Texas Sweat will only be a 5 day event this year but everyone will share one camp with the entire roster together at one time. This no doubt will once again strain me and my few employees to the limit. There will be two options on hunt packages. One will be a primitive camping option which will still include water and electricity, toiletry, etc. This package will be for a lesser price that the full accomodations. Never the less, temperatures should be great and having everyone in one camp at the same time should prove to make an outstanding gathering. Hope to see you there! CK
Texas Sweat 2008-Feburary 18-23rd
how much are the packages?, what do you hunt there, would be a great trip for my dad and i
I like Feb. that will work for me. When do you need deposits. Right now everyone is counting there pocket change for St Judes. Not to mention checking everyones house they are at for change in the furniture. :biglaugh: I'm coming if you will have me back Curtis
:D
Brent
You have e-mail
Count me in.
I'm in!! Sent you an email Curtis.
February is good for me Curtis; count me in! Wonder how many days it will take Hunt It to cover 97 square miles? I'm guessing 5 is enough.
Dave
Dave and Tom can cover it in 3. :saywhat:
It will take me about 3 months - old and fat you know.
Count Me IN Double and I'll go Primitive ifn I may come! :scared: :scared:

!["" "[dntthnk]"]("graemlins/dntthnk.gif")
:(
Joe... that just sucks!!!
Write my name in pencil, not sure I can swing the time off work and all just yet. But would love to try and get in on this. Any pricing available as of yet?
I'm new here....Is this something anyone can go on or must we be invited?
Shure would love to go! Thanks
WOW! I wasn't expecting such a response. Just got on line and judging by the posts here and the 26 email I got, I think we've got a gathering about to take place.
(some details) You have the dates. Destination will be Odessa, Texas. There is an International Airport there and the ranch is within 20 miles. There will be two fees available to choose from based on availability. The camphouse will not sleep everyone. I'm currently in the prep stages of the old house. I'm happy to see guys voluntering for the camp option. The more that will do this the easier booking this hunt will be. There are covered barns to camp under.
I'm not going to plan any solid prices right now. I'll say that the camp price will be around $550 and the full accomodations will be around $850-900 for the five days. We'll have everything you need on the ranch this year(ice, water, corn, etc). The species we'll be hunting will be 2 javelina and unlimited hogs per person. Also, there are cats and coyotes and lots of Jack rabbits. As the months progress I'll make solid announcments about all the other details. Please don't book flights yet as the dates may change a day or two in either direction.
Joe, you'll be sorely missed my friend! CK
Curtis check's in the MALE :bigsmyl:
If ya have to change dates do so to accommodate SIR COOTS.....PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE :clapper: :clapper: unless he can't make it :biglaugh:
Get this....
Some luckey Trad Gang member is going to get FREE admission to TX Sweat 2008! :readit:
Details after St Judes. :campfire:
I want to go so bad I can taste it! Just can't give a firm commitment until later this summer. I'm thinking the chances are very good, and just hoping there will be a spot left by the time I can make a commitment
I've aked Curtis to put me on the list with a "?"
WOW thats a sweat deal, do we have to have a shoot off? :D
Brent
I'll have a covered barn Curtis!
Heck I'll camp. No big thing! Already looked at possible flights. Very reasonable.
JC, How about I come down in Januray to help with all your paper work...CFO assistant? Maybe free you up for TXS 08? Can't immagine one without you ...Doc :(
Put me on the list CK.
JC n Whip Just Quit :readit: Tradgang will support ya.
Curtis I will volunteer to camp also. I have a tent and a cot. Tent will sleep two or three comfortable if anyone wants to share.
Donald
Just pondering the THOUGHT of no JC or Whip :scared: :scared:
That would be like going on a hunt and leavin yer Campbell and yer AD Trad Heavies at home. Ya could still do the hunt, but it DARN sure wouldn't be the same
Vance,
We better dust off that old 60's Purple Bus and get 'er going cross country. Need to start rounding up these guys :banghead: Doc
Don't count me out! If I had to place odds on it right now I would have to guess 80% chance I'll be there. It's that other 20% that has me really worried right now :( But I did tell CK that if others jump in first and make deposits I understand I might get aced out on 08'. Maybe I could worm in on a cacellation later though...
Just let me know when I can send a check, Curtis.
Curtis,
Don't ever count me out buddy! I'll be there and will drag all guys tween here and there with me as always. Mel and John got first two seats if they are coming. I'll take the lodging option due to the distance and all the stuff everyone fills my truck with. But ifin ya need me to sleep outside I'll do it for you Curtis! Course I could always bring lotsa Tecate and perhaps Gary have room in that rollin condo of his!
Dave, I will be waiting by the curb when you drive by. Texas, here we come!
OH NO ..Terry does this mean I should NOT have sent CK my Dee..POSIT? :banghead:
I could have already won a FREE HUNT
No worry Vance, just call it a small deposit on your tecate bill. :D
Brent
JC,
I'll miss your stories and shooting the ball and the bull around camp.
Looks like a great gathering and I know the hunting is great. I had a chance to scout the ranch with Curtis. There are lots of hogs and javalenas. Curtis and I both took hogs and didn't even touch 1/10th of the ranch.
I'll see everyone there.
Mark
Thanks again for all the input and responses guys. I love all the excitment and look forward to having everyone there. I'm going to have to reiderate something here so everyone sees it again. Here it is in bold. I've been absolutely innundated with emails wanting to send deposits.
I am currently only announcing the dates of this hunt so everyone can mark them down. I will not be accepting deposits till I know the cost of this hunt. I will not know this until everything is in order. It will take me several months to sew everything up. Please be patient with me between now and then. I think we'll have room for everyone this year. Watch this forum for future developments.
Thanks again guys. Please feel free to ask questions here so I can answer them where everyone will benefit from the answers. Please no more emails about deposits at this time. Thanks for your understanding. I do appreciate your excitment!!!!! See you very soon! CK
PS. I go back and look through these threads when it comes time to book the hunt. If you truly think you can attend and will attend if given the invite, please simply post on this thread. I'll go back through this thread when it comes time to send in deposits. Deposits should start around September or October. Thanks! CK
I will be looking forward to attending as a first timer. Been wanting to a javelina hunt and sound like it is a great time to meet some fine folks.
I'll start the tune up in the mornin Doc. Who's gonna Drive?
origanly posted by long bow
I'm new here....Is this something anyone can go on or must we be invited?
Just put yer name in.. I think that past Sweat Vets get the first seats..Then he fills the bus with ya younguns.
Keep in mind this is a VERY ARDIOUS hunt and requires alot of pre-hunt training. This hunt also has its share of casualties. Lots of head injuries and skin lacerations not to mention the levitation that will occur during your time there.
And believe me you will be tested. So STUDY STUDY STUDY. Some of the vets will be happy to share some homework assignments with ya. :bigsmyl:
sounds like a challange and a learning experience for us younguns. send some homework assignments and i'll start buying the bandaids
and ice packs.
I let the Vets fill the first spots and then go through and see how many other entries we have. Hopefully I can give most everyone a spot on the roster this year. Thanks for your interest! CK
Curtis, if there is any room left still after the Vets take there rightful spots and you still have room....please count me in. Mark
Bill.... there is a Certain order in which things are done at the Sweat Your assignment should come in that order, taught by the proper instructor.
#1....Learning to live with nothing but what ya get off the plane wearing. This course requires that you become a first class MOOCH. From socks to Bows.....Instructor is Big Ron (ha) Hunt A Lot
#2... This is very important because it's the second in activities you'll be involved in, often times done even prior to arrival at Hunting Ranch.
You need to practice slicing any external appendage with a Broadhead. Along with this goes learning to suture yourself or allowing some one else to do it for you. Your only allowed to use NATURAL MEDICINE as pain killer. Instructors are lead by BeachBowHunter, I also am qualified to teach this class as well.
#3.....This requires the most finesse AND can make or break your Hunting experience. You need to learn to irritate the Host and his Dog JUST to the point of them being able to gargle with Peanut Butter, It is of the utmost importance you learn the JUST ABOUT part. Several of us can teach this, however we have not managed to get it down as well as Border Bob Walker has for him it is a science second to none.
Get started now so yer ready :goldtooth:
If I get the transfer to Laredo you can count me in Curtis and even if I don't please keep me advised as I just may swing it anyway. I can always fly into Dallas and drive down with my bro.
Danny
Very cool! This looks like one heck of a campout shaping up with a lot of fella's I'd love to share the fire with. CK
Hey Bud, Did you get my e mail today??
Me? Nope! Better go check spam. Sometime guys tell me they've sent mail and I didn't respond. My spam catcher sometime sends strange email there.
Vance
#3 ive always been the funny fat kid so no problem there.
#2 you cut me with broad heads and play ER just for the practice i work in a machine shop and i'm use to it.
#1 i dont mind mooching my clothes and gear back heck i'll hunt in my boxes if i have to.But you better bre pety big if you think you can pry my bow out of my hand LOL :archer:
Put me back on the list for this year Curtis. I can camp.
Ya all better not be messing with Sassy. Remember its not the size of the dog in the fight, its the size of the fight in the dog. (http://i94.photobucket.com/albums/l101/GUNSMITHAMMO/DSC00103-1.jpg)
Mess with the dog and (http://i94.photobucket.com/albums/l101/GUNSMITHAMMO/icon_hang.gif)

With Curtis your on your own, probably same fate.
I want in on this if there is room for a newbie to this event so count me in as a definite. I will need to do the full accommodations package as I will be flying in. If some of the Georgia boys want to plan a carpool and camping trip I can do that too.
Thanks!
I've put it on my calendar. I'llsend you a deposit when details are finalized. Barring some sort of catastrophe, I'll be there.
Curtis ,email sent. I would like to be considered for a spot if there are any openings.
Bill

Just marked the dates off on the calendar in the event there is room for new comers to the "Sweat".
Bob Walker just sent you a PM. if there is room we might just have a good little group coming from VA.
Again, some luckey Trad Ganger is gonna get free admisson :jumper:
Since I'll be a rookie, I guess I'll sweetin the pot by adding taxi service for Horsman and Tatzloff as they come thru the panhandle of Florida. We'll go in my Tundra 4 X 4. All you guys have to do is share a little $ for gas and sleep while I drive. :coffee:
If there is room for a newby,I would like to be there to join in the "SWEAT"
Another rookie here who would love to "sweat", not much of that up my way that time of year! I always prefer going primitive, I don't take up much room, hope there is enough...
Terry we are impatiently awaiting details of just how thats gonna go down  Fill us in when info is available.

OK, now that those details are ironed out I'll explain details. This is a do=it-yourself hunt just as it is every year. Sweat Vets always help the new guys. Your success is totally up to you. This ranch is absolutely enormous and you will need to be self suffecient if lost, stuck in the sand, etc. Please know that you are able to survive on your own if a situation were to occur. The ranch is 97 sections(65,000 acres) and you will need to find your own game and hunting locations. I suspect you will hunt in three or four man groups like every year. There is an abundance of game on this ranch but it is somewhat featureless in nature. One end of the ranch looks like the other end except the ends are 25 miles appart. I also have a few smaller ranches that we may also use to keep travel to a minimum. No worries, I'll get everyone started in the right direction.
Please remember, this is the only hunt of the entire year that I don't allow kids(under 18), wives, or girlfriends. Sorry but that's the way Charlie and I originally designed this hunt and due to the occasional graphic nature of the night-time camp scene, it's a good thing! :D
Also, as the years have passed this hunt has changed slightly from what Charlie and I intended. This is a gathering simply for the comaradrie and a way to meet your fellow Tradgang member. If you are geared for the hunt or the kill only please book one of the other hunts. This one is about the gathering, about the campfire, and about the long awaited quenching of our thirsty souls after a year at rest..... If you shoot some game that will simply be icing on the cake. You will likely shoot something but I don't want anyone upset if you don't. I simply cannot help guide when I'm balancing a mountain of daily duties.
Plans at this time are to have a vending cook available and cooking hamburgers, tacos, etc. I'm still looking for that cook so until then you'll be required to feed yourself. My suggestion would be a full camp buffett where everyone throws out their meats and wine and everyone share. Just an idea that I've seen work.
OK, I'm typed out but I'll keep adding as we go. Once your deposit has arrived you'll be allowed into the TXS08 Forum where you can discuss sharing rental cars, hotels, etc.... Every year there are lifetime bonds formed and friendships that last forever. Many of these bonds are formed through the preparation and the travel to and from this event. Charlie and I look forward to meeting all our new friends and sharing camp once again with all our old ones. See you guys in Texas! We'll surely share some Texas Sweat! CK
Ya just forgot one thing Curtis,
You will meet some of the souls of the earth.JMO Doing it the traditional way.
Count me in for the barn camping.
CK,
I want to sign up but my wife is scared because every out of state hunt on go on she gets hurt before or during! I'm still working on it!
:D :D :D
Look out Tejas!
Really looking forward to this year's Sweat, it's gonna sound dumb, but after only spending a week in camp with the guys from G2 last year I've made some amazing friends over there & miss 'em all! 's gonna be great catching up again! :bigsmyl:
Thanks Rob! There are a lot of guys who share your feelings. It;s been quite a adventure to say the least. This will be the year we all share one camp at one set of dates. :scared:
Someone please call the Border Patrol. I hear Bob Walker is coming back to Texas. :goldtooth:
Tie up the SKUNKS and Dillas :scared: :scared: :scared:
He he he! I can only claim for an assist on those! :D
Must try harder this year!
It looks like I may have to put on my cooking hat this year too, hope you like Rabbit risotto!
Count me in I can't wait to be with other trad hunters
It's got to cost more than $45 to be real.
homebru
PS I only looked at Pg 6 'cause the title said Info pg 6
The $45 is for the license Nathan. I think that covers 5 days of hunting. And trust me, the SWEAT is about as real as it gets! :readit:  It's about as much fun as a guy can legally have!
TTT
Curt } >>---->
Curtis for those that will be flying are there any facilities for tossing a sleeping bag since bringing an entire camp set up on a plane just ain't to feasable?
There are a couple of covered barns. One of the barns has electricity and water is right outside. I'm sure it will make a fine bunk house. :D
The second annual Texas Sweat had guys sleeping in my hay barn(bow shop). Heck, there isn't much sleeping going on at the Sweat.
TTT. I'm headed to the ranch in the morning. I'll better know how all this will lay out when I return. CK
Didn't see in ther ewhatcha need for a deposit, CK.
Half do the trick?
Yea Jeff, Deposit is 1/2 down. You're a Vet though and I'm counting Vets for the next two weeks before I start taking your deposits. Hang in there! CK
