This morning I went down by the creek. Kinda overslept and got there late, but it was a beautiful morning. Clear. bright a little windy. After being circumnavigated by some toms yesterday I decided I'd just wait for them to come to me silently in a place where they cross the creek. An ambush as it were. How'd it work? Well while I was down by the creek waiting, 5 toms came thru the yard.(they haven't been in the yard for a month). When I come in I immediately hear how the toms strutted clear across the yard and out thru the gap.(a narrow opening down thru the woods over our sand septic system). It's an area we hunt the first couple days of the season. Dianne says "if you'd have been at the gap it would have been an easy shot." BAH humbug. Did I say yesterday I loved turkey hunting? Changed my mind! Stupid birds!
Here's a pic of some turkeys in the gap

They have you patterned Mickey... LOL ;)
ROTFL :knothead:
Oh thats classic Mickey. Lets-see...using triple reverse psychology I'd say you should plan on sitting the gap tomorrow (obviously, cause you saw them there this AM), but then go down to the creek last minute because the gap is too obvious, but then again, sometimes it's just plain assinine to ignore the obvious so you should run back to the gap at the very last minute and hammer one! Then call me for the recipe I tried on my dumber than dirt Jake Merriam this year. Yummy! Buurrp!
:jumper: :o
There so dumb there hard to get! They never do what we want, better luck next time.
I seem to be having the same problem. well three days at the end of the week and it will be all over until next year. :(
Go Get 'em Mickey!
Stupid birds......LOL
Just remember, we're not laughing at you, we're laughing with you.
I'd say smart birds. Mick!!! When does the season end in Ohio. Getting kinda late I would think.
Sounds like a great day to me Mickey! Great getting out there, isn't it?
Real neat Mick...you have some great pics to share. Always look forward to your "Pic of the Day". ;)
You don't love turkey hunting anymore? Ha, I bet you'll be back out there in a heartbeat. lol :biglaugh:
Sean
Figures doesn't it? You're at the creek crossing, they're in the gap, tomorrow you'll be at the gap, they'll be at the creek crossing......I think maybe it's time for some different tactics to be used, maybe some colorful clothes at the gap while you're at the crossing, waiting in ambush........course, you might have to wait another month for them to come back.... :( I'm with you Mick, I'm getting so that I'm not liking these birds so much anymore.....
David
I just hate it when a bird with a brain the size of a walnut outsmarts me (continually)
That sounds too true
Isn't it great that these birds aren't a pushover? Think about how great of an accomplishment that makes it for those that do get one.
They always know, I don't no how but they always know just where you are and where they don't want to be. But you've gotta love it, right???
I say, pee, crap and hang dirty laundery, set the portable alarm clock radio to go off 1/2 after sun rise, and put out the coyote/bobcat 3-d's every place where you don't want those damn birds to be...then sit in the only place left that's un-encumbered....
I would say your best bet is to make a PVC blind and set up over your septic system. The turkeys would think you had just worked on the septic system. You could even make a PVC bow to blend in perfectly. Oh, be sure to paint your face white.
Now that's just wrong, I don't care who you are. Why is it they don't ever seem to play by the rules. :)
