A Colorado Bull....
I envy any of you guys that get to view/hear and hunt elk!! We have a small but growing population up north but i doubt they'll ever be down in the flat wide open farmland where i live.
I'd just like to see and hear one at sunrise and get to stalk within bow range...unless my heart exploded from beating too fast!
Great pics!
Drew,
Take a weekend trip up to the Pidgeon River area in late September. Look up a place in Atlanta called Elk View Cabins. They give you an inexpensive, clean place to stay and show you where to find them. It may only be a 'practice run' but you'll get to hear 'em bugle. Keep putting in the application, you may just get lucky. I was drawn the very first time I applied back in '95.
From last season:
Good friends hunt elk with you.....Great friends put the guttin' gloves on before you do!!!

You guys are going to drive me crazy with this thread,I can tell already.
We are going antelope hunting and skipping elk but I don't know if I can do it.I love being in the mountains and hearing that first bugle and being around good friends.

Hey Dan, and anybody else that wants a bugling e-mail notification on your computer, follow these directions:
1. go to www.elkheaven.com, (http://www.elkheaven.com,) click on sounds, then go to the bottom of that page and click on the different wave files until you find just the right one. Right click on it, and save it to somewhere on your computer's hard drive;
2. go to your computer's control panel, click on settings , then sounds;
3. when the sound box opens, click on the top sound tab and choose "windows default" for sound scheme;
4. then click on "new e-mail" in the lower "program events" box
5. click on browse and find the wave file you saved and click on it
6. click on "apply" and it should work (or your computer may crash and the IT police will be very unhappy).
You can save any photo of a bugling elk as your screen saver. My special photo was taken by a Utah friend on his San Juan hunt (he shot this particular bull with his camera, not his bow). Since it is his photo which he may publish someday, I won't display it here.
Hope this helps. I can never get enough bugling elk sounds, it helps me forget reality at work for a while.
Be sure to drop that comma on the elk heaven link or it won't work.

looks like BB's pics, Steadman?
Thanks Jeff. I can't wait for email now!
Hey Steadman, looks like we have a common friend from Utah - BB aka Bill Allard. Can you believe he passed up that bull?
I know Bill too. I could not believe he passed a couple of the bulls he did that year!
This Toad should get the juices flowing (http://i187.photobucket.com/albums/x289/plumberob/arrow006.jpg)
Yea those are Bill's pictures, and No I could not believe he passed up that one. I was supposed to go down with him over Labor day but my wife got real sick. He is an awesome guy, and as Ernie knows, tough as nails!! Good luck to every one this year, Steadman
Man. Thanks Jeff. I hear elk now!!!! Emails are cool now.
Great googly-goo Fred! I'm a greenhorn when it comes to elk antlers in hand but Plumbob's pic sure impressed this guy. That's more antler than I'll ever gather from all of my Appalachian whitetails glued together....

Tracy
Great pictures Jerry,Got any pictures of some Rosies from Oregon.Love those costal mountains,Neatest place I have ever hunted.
Tracy
This is my 2005 Colorado bull. I called him out of his wallow and ended it at 17 or so yards. He ran back to the wallow and died within seconds.
This is just a picture of great memories. This is of a bull I guided for. If you have elk hunted much, you know how those pack-outs until 2:00am go. This picture was taken after we unloaded a front quarter. The cape is inside the pack. And I know what ya'll are thinkin'. "If that kid wasn't so skinny, he could have handled that load a little better." :help:
http://i108.photobucket.com/albums/n32/papsblueribbon1/Todd15.jpg
Good luck all this next season. Especially you, Tracy. I sure hope your clan looses some arrows at speed goats this year.
Todd
Great Bull Todd,I would have been glad to help you get that dude out No matter what time it was. Thanks for showing us  :notworthy: :D
Tracy
I can't get the bottom picture to post but the link works. Sorry.

Todd
BKA, is the feather for sale?
Now that is cool,Good job.
Tracy
Weasel those are some unbelievable pictures!!! It sure gets me fired up for this fall!!! Brian the feather painting is very cool, and very well done!!! I have personally never seen anything like it. You should post some more pics if you have other similar paintings.
Man, This thread is the best!! Lets see some more elk!!!
Thank you very much guys!! I have posted one for the SaintJudes auction so bid it up. Also check out the IT'S UP tread for a special deal for bidders. Have 3 more to do and that finishes up the 34 awards for ATAR. If you shoot the archery wingshooting comp. that Dr.John Freeland does at several big shoots, I paint his awards to.
Stykbowslim, Yes it is. Unfortunately it is tied up under contract with a local art gallery for the next 6 months, along with 25 others I have done this year. It has to sale through them during this period.
Bohunter, I'll email you some recent work if your address is on your profile.
Thanks again ,
Brian
I am waiting for the horns to grow a little more before deploying the trailcam...Here is a good one from last year though..

Weasel that second picture is great! Looks like he is saying, "What are doing there!" or "I'm going to kick your butt!" He definitely has an attitude going on there.

somewhere there is muledeer elk or hog..
Now were talking, Some more good elk photo's!!!!
Keep the coming.
Guys,Gere's an idea, save those antler and have yourself a bow made from them, I didn't shoot the bull this riser came from, just made it into a bow, wish I had though.....one of these days...
P.S. I don't make bows for the general public just my family and friends..........Steve

Wow, Voodoofire1, that's a good idea and it looks great. I like the idea of using an antler from one bull to kill another bull elk.
Obviously elk antlers have many uses. Here is another use I am considering.......

Awesome thread, outstanding pics. I have no elk to hunt around here, but I did come across an "elk farm" locally in the Catskill Mountains, so I have seen one now....

First scouting trip this weekend! Hopefully some pictures then. Man, how in the world am I going to wait another 6 weeks to get up for some actual hunting?
I bought my license today. Just 25 days to go!
