I have a set of a dozen cedar shafts I've been meaning to turn into my first set of self made arrows. One or two of the shafts have some pitch or sap on them. Can I use rubbing alcohol or acetone or something to remove this before I start staining or sanding? I've never built arrows before, but would guess this will mess up the finish. Any suggestions?
bunyan:
POC's moisture is infact an oil that will harden when it reaches the surface of the shaft. Yes just wipe it down with lacquer thinner, acetone or somesuch solvent before making the arrow.

thanks! I didn't want to do anything that would mess up the wood.
De-Natured Alcohol works good too.
