Title: Best Turkey Tips
Post by: Missouri CK on May 06, 2007, 11:09:00 PM
For all of us that ended up empty handed this year I thought it would be good to start a thread about tips that have helped other trad gang members bag a bird.  I would really appreciate hearing some of the more unique things that you guys try either from a calling strategy or set up.

I hunted out of a double bull blind this year for the first time.  I did have one shot opportunity but messed it up.   :knothead:

So I'll start off with the obvious.  Pick a spot.  Preferably straight up from the drumstick.

Other than that I use two decoys a jake and a hen.  Call lightly and try to get close to start with.

Terry,

Thanks for the link.  Looks like I missed a good one last year.  Should have read this before I went out this year.

I was wondering which string tracker you guys use.  I went to Turkeyhuntingsecrets.com and saw their Game tracker 2500 model.  Is that the best?

How many of those spools will a guy need?

Thanks,

Chris

Gobbler10ga has the best tip of all.Once you know the bird has committed shutup and be patient and let the gobblers lust kill him.

Chris... what's important with the string tracker is the strength of the string. They typically come with 15# and the 30# stuff is what you need.

A couple of rolls should last a long time... at least a full season unless something goes terribly wrong... a lot!    ;)

When he`s been quiet for an hour and you think its over just because its late morning he will putt and run off when you unzip the blind.RC

Practice from sitting or kneeling positions out of your blind if your hunting out of one and if your using old natural stuff practice behind that stuff and practice tight shots in the woods. Practice,,Practice,,Practice..

I decoy at 3 yds and 2 at 8yds.  This gives you a 10yd shot, if you can wait that long.  Don't hunt without a string tracker.

Get up real, real early! Be out there in the darker, dark.Get close to the roost. They'll land in your lap, then push them away so you can shoot.
