Guys didnt want to take awya from another thread so I thought I would ask my questions here.
How many of yall wear armguards? If your form is correct do you need a armguard?
I started shooting when I was a kid. I slapped my forearm a few times. I learned real quick that I needed to keep it out of the way.
With that being said I wonder if my form has been out of wack since way back then.
i typically shoot a compound bow, and my take on it is...if ya are wearing a longsleeve shirt (like most of us do when we go hunting) you dont need one. I havent used an arm guard in 9 years. I practice in the camo i hunt in as to keep everyting as regular as possible.
I often wear an armguard to keep my sleeve from catching the string.
I always wear one. I am not so sure it is a form issure but when I shoot I have my bow arm locked straight. I have always shot this way and if I dont have an arm guard on it kill my arm. I think it depends on your form and how each individual shoots.
Never wear one with my recurve and rarely if ever wish that I had. I have been hitting my forearm with longbows though, why?
I never where one with recurves, expect with baggy hunting clothes. And longbows as I find the lower brace height longbows. Will slap me a little.

I always use one. When I have heavy clothes on it keeps my sleeve away from the string.I use one even with a bare arm. Could be my form isn't the greatest but it's the way I've shot for over 40 years and it works for me.
Good Huntin,
Ed :archer:
i use one to keep my hunting shirt out of the way and to carry a knife in.
I always shoot with one....now. It seems like when I have one on, I don't need it. The first few times I shoot without one, I hit my arm. maybe it's just a subconscious thing, but I use one.
I wear one every time. I would like to be able to lock my arm but I would nock the .....out of it.
My are guard slides down to my wrist unless I tie it tight then there are string welts. they are a pain in the but.
I guess most of you wear a seatbelt while driving, but hope to never use it. Same goes with an armguard. If it feels uncomfortable, try sliding a length of tubigrip bandage under it.

Yeah, I used to not wear one, but now I do...

this is what I use now
Only when I have a heavy hunting coat on.
I sometimes wear it and sometimes not. I sort of practice the advice given by Horace Ford back in the 1850s. "The bracer is a piece of Archers equipment that should be used but never needed." I seldom hit my arm and even without one it seldom hurts if it does hit. But as a leatherworker I just have to have make and wear them. My current one is a reproduction of an 11th century viking bracer which was dug up in York and I really like it.

sent you an e-mail
I never wear one. I shoot with a slight bent arm so that, in part, keeps my arm from getting clobbered. I do find that I need to somehow restrain the clothing/coat over my forearm when it gets chilly otherwise it will catch and slow my arrow quite noticeably. To each his own. Cheers, Grodes
I have never worn one but after seeing that pic I think I might have to order one from Mike.
You won't be sorry with one of Mike's armguards or quivers. I have both, and his work is the best I've seen, and his armguards are super comfortable, and Mike is the most wonderful person to deal with, and a true gentleman.

The best arm guard i've foumd when winter hunting or with shirts with baggy sleeves is cutting the toe out of a knee high nylon....ya that's right...a womens stocking....quiet and comfortable, and holds your shirt or coat out of the way of your string real well....my hunting partners razzed me about it ubtill they tried it....i like the black ones myself....kinda sporty looking! :bigsmyl:

yeah, they're beautiful, and I want one. over at Braveheart, though, the Hunter's listed as having the stretch cord, but on your site, it's a draw string. both are an option, I guess? could be I'm just confused, too. nothing new there.

thanks. now just to save up that $30.
Kirk, I think realtree sells something like that that goes right around the coat sleeve. It's like a big sock. Not pantyhose, but hey:) Cheers, Matt
there's that Saveyur rig, which is kind of like that, I think. never tried it though.

guess you could always just rub your arm with a tube of superglue, too.
Yeah, I wear one pretty much all of the time. The reason is this... I never seem to shoot from the same place, height, or angle twice when I'm walking through the woods. Sometimes I have to adjust my stance and how I am holding the bow just to get around branches and what not. So, most of the time I don't have a problem slappin my arm but on those few occasions when it does whack it good, I'm glad I have the gaurd. If you are getting hot wearing one, try one of the skeletal types that just have three lengths of plastic and are open. They are a lot cooler on hot days.
I never wore one with a compound bow, and when I bought a recurve, I thought I wouldn't need it.
After a few shots, I went and bought one, but the damage was done, and my forearm was purple and black the next day!
Now I always where one.
Always, just in case I get snapped and for those shirt sleeves...
I got mine from a cool TG member who does awesome tooling (ClintV) and the only one I use but if I were to buy one,
MikeG or Tim Roberts they both got some very nice leather goods.
I wear mine cause I made to look cool and since I don't shoot great I try to look cool while I do.
Ledo, I think Mike was making both, but once he started offering stretch cord nobody seemed to want the lace. Now I think he's just making them with cord. That's the way I remember it anyway, Mike will probably chime in on that.
I have 2 of Mikes Armguards and they Both have Stretch Chord and Hooks! Mike makes a FINE Product!!
They are not just for string slap or baggy clothing.
I saw a picture, online, of a fellows arm that had part of a broken(upon release) arrow in it.
It can happen...wear them!
Has anyone seen the picture? I'd like to save it on my 'puter for reference.
