Can anybody identify this for me? I want to use it for knife scales and limb tips. The guy I got it from doesn"t remember what it's called.

Thanks,

Looks like black palm to me.
It looks like wenge. Most of it the grain is not quite that open but I have gotten some that was.
Is it stable enough to use for knife scales? Do I need to stablize it?
Bodork, I was kinda thinkin palm myself cause of the hair-like dark part, but wasn't sure.
Thanks
PS I got the package and have them glued up, Thanks. I do not have the hair-on hide.
black palm it makes the ugliest pen i have ever seen
yup looks like black palm to me :0)
Not sure what it is btu it sure is cool ooking..Did a search on yahoo and it looks pretty much like black palm to me.
It does look like black palm. I made a bow with it once. Seriously dense and heavy stuff. Not much of a shooter but it is cool looking.
The stuff big long toothpic bows are made of!
I found some pics of the black palm I made.

Thanks for all the info guys.
John that is definately different, cool!!
I saw a knife made with black palm here a few maonts ago. Looked real neat. The maker laid the grain two different ways and it made a nice contrast.
Glad you got the bloodwood. How about some pics of those tips when you are finished?
Will do Mike!
I was kinda thinkin the same thing with Palm. The end grain looks cool with all the little points and the contrast would be sweet!
I would stabilize it if you are going to use it for knife handles. The black streaks will pull out if you are using machinery to shape it. That looks like a real good piece.

Hey Kenny, I found the picture of that knife with black palm. Actually, there are three of them. Do a search for black palm and open the thread called 'show your hunting knives..again.'
They look even better than I remembered. Mike
Thanks Mike!
