Title: Laminated birch arrows
Post by: SOS on May 01, 2007, 10:03:00 PM
I want to try some heavier arrows for my 51# bow and ordered some laminated birch.  Any experience, suggestions, tips, hints, etc, for building and setting up these for my bow?  Never used them before.

They will definitely be heavier. They are a bit more difficult to straighten than cedars. I still like cedars better, but if you want something heavy, you picked the right shaft. I don't have much experience with them. I tried some my cousin had and didn't like them. Unless you are fairly close, they drop like crazy, so you need a rainbow trajectory. At 15 yards or so, though, they should penetrate like the dickens!

I am on my first dozen of laminated birch shafts. Like 30coupe said, they are a bit tougher to staighten.  My bows are all in the low 60's and I haven't noticed that much drop though. So far I like them.

I shoot them out of 60# bows and out to 25 yards I do not notice much drop, but they are heavy which is what I like.

I have shot them for a couple of years, I love them. Heavy and they stay straight. They are also very durable for stump shooting. I shoot the 5/16" at around 50-50lb. they are a little thicker than that so I use 11/32" points and nocks.

Love lam Birch.........I shoot #60 @ 28" and easily get 625-650gr from my arrows. Not really a drastic drop out to 25 yards,I can switch from cedar to birch while shooting with only a slight adjustment.I like the tapered or barrel tapered shafts, and they take stain very good too.

Good stuff! I've been shooting some for the last year. I like it! Durable, tough, straight, heavy, all the desirable features you want in a good hunting arrow. Pigs can still break them though.   :D
