Louisiana just opened a new squirrel season for private land hunting and some WMA's!, I think the bag limit is 3 per day, its starts may 5th-27th, I think, you can see details on the Louisiana department of wildlife and fisheries website, go to news to find it, also someone told me of a parasite that squirrels get in hot weather that prevents them from being eatable?, has anyone else heard of this?, I got a chance to try out my new recurve before deer season!
Hello Ian, Here's some info for ya...
During late summer squirrels may be seen rolling on the ground, biting themselves, and jumping up and down. This is usually due to skin irritations from bot fly larvae, which are parasites that appear as bumps on the skin, often in places where the squirrel cannot scratch. The parasite is located only in the skin and does not affect edibility of the meat in harvested squirrels.
These are unsightly when you skin the animal and I wouldnt recommend doing it in front of anyone. LOL We have a special season opening in VA too this year. Good Luck
thanks

Jeff, Yes it will still be in thru January. :wavey:
I've had the worm crawl out of the skwerl while in the floor of the truck. They're right gross allright. The ones I have seen are about the diameter of a youngin's pinky.
