I've read alot of the posts reguarding footing carbon shafts. Most of the footings that I have seen are 2" or less in length. Has anyone experimented with longer footings? 5" or 6" footings? A 6" 2020 footing would weigh 81grs. Would serve dual purpose - increase FOC and strengthen shaft.
I think footing them with 5" or 6" might have an affect on spine. But with that length of a foot it would be drawn into the bow.I only foot mine 1&1/2" and some with just an inch.Just enough to overlap the insert I feel that is all that is necessary. That is the weakest part of the arrow shaft where it is most likely to split.I foot mainly to keep the end from possible spliting and to make 5/16" points fit flush. That allows points that are availible in so many more weight sizes without using broadhead adapters.I get alot more foots out of one shaft with them being 1" to 1&1/2".
Ditto. If you want more weight up front, you can buy heavier points or inserts.
