A friend asked me to put some snake skins on his red wing hunter recurve. He mentioned some bolts in the fade out sections of the riser and wondered if they would be a problem. I looked at pictures of several similar bows on the auction site and most had these bolts. Are these bushings for a pair of stabilizers or have some other purpose.
I believe they were put there to thread in the bow quiver Wing made back at that time.
Eric, I believe they were mounting bushings for the old Wing bowquiver.
Yep, bushings for the Wing quiver--one of my favorite bow quivers. They mounted with a small thumb bolt that did not come off the mounting bracket. You couldn't lose them and you didn't need any tools--real slick system. I used it on a Browning Nomad Stalker II recurve that had the same inserts on the limbs....Dave
Wing also had a shoot thru bowfishing reel that attached using those bushings.
Yep they were to mount a quiver and other accessories. Any how that Wing will look pretty cool with a set of skins on it.
My friend stepped on a timber rattler that struck him in his snake boots,of course the snake didn't survive, 60" long and just right to cover his bow.
There are 3 bushings on most of the Red Wing Hunters. The top and bottom bushings are for the quiver, and the upper bushing on the lower limb is for a stabilizer or reel.
I may be wrong but what i have observed is, the early Wing bows have none, the Head ski brand have two and i have only seen two on the AMF but there could be three. I have a 52" that needs refinishing , that would look good with some skins. Are they hard to do?
Jim -- they are real easy...just takes some time. Mickey has a good skin along, I think and there have been others...Eric might be doing one now, if I'm not mistaken.
Scratch up the back a bit, lay out some TBII, smooth out the skin real flat on the surface (soak the skin in warm water for a few minutes to make it real pliable)...keep smoothing it...trim with new, sharp razor after glue sets up (an hour or so)...use tape to remove scales after a day or so of drying...refinish.
Plenty of skin alongs...do a search.
Thanks I'll do that right now.
I have an AMF hawk with those bolts. I also have the wing quiver.....seems like it would be a decent set up if I could find a arrow gripper for it...
Jamie,3 Rivers has the grippers for the Wing quivers listed in their catalog.
Cool...thanks.
