Just bought a used selfbow to try,and love it.Can anyone give me some names of selfbow bowyers, that makes a great selfbow? The one i bought was made by Tedd Druck and it is a great bow.
I would like one 60" or shorter if possible.around 45#@26.I prefer osage.
Am new to the selfbows so don't know much about them!
Thanks for any info...........Ron

John Scifres. I have owned several of his bows and they are great. In fact, it may be time for another.
Dan
Mike Westvang..... Dryad Bows...... Look him up in the site sponsors listings...You won't find a better selfbow out there... Terry
In my opinion no one makes a nicer selfbow then Brad Merkel of Little Tree bows. He posts on here from time to time, I'm sure you could find a way to contact him on here...
Dan
Thanks everone for the info!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

John Strunk - a bowyer's bowyer...
Hey! Glad you like the bow. What wood is it? I sure hope someone kills something with it. There are many much better bowyers than me! I was just in the wood shed today thinking I could start hackin on something. Also we have had an excavator clear a bunch of hickory trees for a new basketball court for our daughter. A smart guy would split some out right now!
Mostly I have decided it was more important to spend more time with my daughter while she's still young. I like hunting alot so I had to give up bow making to keep hunting time availible. I'll make a bow or two in the future. I have a pc of osage that would make grown men fight over it.
The best self bows I ever saw were made by Scott Feltch nearby in Hanover. He makes mine look like kindling wood. Not sure if he is making any.
Only 25 more years untill retirement...do you think osage stave last that long?

This bow was made for my brother. I think it was the best one that I made...still it's nothing like what other guys are making. Plenty of flaws!
Tedd
I'll second John Strunk. I don't own any of his bows, but I do know that he can make a bow from from the most godawfully twisted piece of wood that most of us wouldn't even consider. I think he also pioneered the cherry bark backing idea.
Couple the crazy staves with the crazy backings and I don't think you'll find any more unique looking bows anywhere. And I'm sure they don't give up much in the shooting dept either.
Gordon Ferlitsch (Gordonf)makes an outstanding bow. He's made bows for several friends in this area. I prefer the bow he made for me over all my other bows. Personally, I think they rank with the best.

Mickey Lotz makes a great selfbow although I don't think he sells them. Maybe he'd trade one for a knife? Doc
Eric Krewson makes a fine selfbow. I have a 66" osage bow 54# @ 29" and it shoots like a rocket. Workmanship is outstanding and Eric is a first class person to deal with.
The bow i bought that was made by Tedd was made 1-25-05 all osage looks like it was made for Rick Dumas 66" 50#@28.
I am having Eric Krewson make me one.
Yes,eagle24 threw our e-mails he is FIRST CLASS!!
Ron
Dean Torges makes the nicest selfbows I have ever seen. His bamboo backed are awsome as well. The man knows wood. What else can you say?
BP
From the pictures I see Eric krewson's look pretty sweet!
You are all getting me in the mood to make one.
Tedd
Of the bows that I have personally handled I like John Strunk's, Gordon Ferlitsch, Mike Cochran and Don Adams bows.
There are many, many more that I'd like to see and shoot, at the top of that list would be a bow by Manny (NorthShoreLB).

Heres a bow from my favorite bowyer

A lot of great bowyers out there, however is hard to beat the products that this 3 bowyers are producing as of late.
Gordon and Keenan from Oregon, and Ryan o'sullivan from Pensilvanya, I love the work those 3 guys do !!
I've heard there is a selfbow bowyer in or near Ft. Collins, Colorado. Does anyone know who he is?
Dave in Ft. Collins, CO
Bob Barnes from this site. If you can get your hands on a bow he made, you'll be amazed how well they shoot.
