I did a post at the beginning of the month asking for your "Single Most Favorite Hunting Knife Style". JC showed this knife by Doug Campbell which is similar to the LaClair skinner.

Well the post wasn't without of motives :) I have been trying to forge knives and felt stale in my designs. I also was present when JC downed a nice Angora goat at this years TX Sweat. When he pulled out his knife, my eyes pooped out. I decided I needed to try & use some of the components of that design in one of my blades...by no means comparable to a Campbell or a LaClair. Mine is a bit beefier both in blade & thickness. Now I need to come up with a handle. Thanks JC, Doug & Ron...Doc

Brent
very very nice!!! :)
Naturally one for him one for me! Gotta look out for your buddys!
Brent
Brent I agree 100%. I'll be happy with Doc's SCRAP knives :bigsmyl: :bigsmyl: .Doc you make some great looking stuff. Ya know you could always just doodle blade designs on paper until ya come up with some ya like.I made a few more but don't wanna hoard in on the post and don't wanna start another one.<><<><
Man you guys with talent kill me :0) Very nice :0) :notworthy: :clapper:
Awesome Doc. A nice ebony and cocobola handle would look sweet on those.
Nice work Doc. I really like that design on the top edge. Whatever handle you come up with I'm sure it'll be a nice one.
Brent, I only used part of one on side of that spike! I do thank you.

Yes indeed Vance did supply me with more horn than I know what to do with...a whole feed bag full. I think he is Santa...Doc
Thuya Burl for the larger one & some nice red Amboina for the smaller.
It's just too darn pretty for it's own good & a joy to work with :D
Beautiful file work, as ever  :notworthy:
Rob, I should have said not comparable to Campbell, La Clair, Rob, Jeremy, and the list goes on. Thanks for all your comments.
PS: If anyone is interested in buying one of my knives, there will be three up for the St Judes Auction! The Bow Build Auction should have a real surprise, Shell will be adding her incredible talent in a beaded sheath for another one, then there is the TXS 07 knife with both groups signing it. Thanks...Doc
Doc, your way too modest, awesome blades!!  :notworthy:
All I gotta say is I'm gonna have to start savin more than just my pennies come time for the St. Judes auction. EXCELLENT work as always Jeff.
GREAT WORK as always. :D
"When he pulled out his knife, my eyes pooped out." Bummer, sorry, guy. :(
So, are you making Braille knives now? Do you need a seeing-eye shop drudge? :knothead:
Killdeer~from the House of Ruthless!
WOW those are _ _ _ _ enough to make ya speachless! Words just are not good enough  And Jeff I agree Vance could very well be Santa! And you won't find a better friend. I'm sorry we met so late in our lives. Think we could of did a little _ _ _ _ raisen! Then again we have lots more years to catch up! Lord willing! :campfire:
Great knives Jeff
Brent
I suppose I better put you people on notice.
I bought one of Jeff's knives on last years St. Jude's auction. Paid a good price, but it was worth every penny. As nice as that knife is, Jeff has stepped his game up to a whole new level with some of these he's showing lately.
I would sure like to own a series of Jeff's knives, and will be bidding accordingly on the auction this year! :readit:
Nice work Jeff, I really like the look of these blades! :notworthy:
Bid high - bid often!
OK let's see, if I take out a 2nd loan on the house can I beat Killdeer and Whip. Doc won't be biddin on his own Knives, Doug will be busy Keepin score. JC is the sleeper here  :notworthy: :notworthy:
Man, Those are some nice blades.
Here's one idea for a handle (not finished)...Bone picked up from last years TX Sweat at the ranch dump! Osage cap to cover webby bone marrow. Still several other knives to finish before picking one for Shell to make pretty for St Judes...Doc

Beautiful as always Jeff! I like the stouter looking blade, goes well with the file work. They look so sharp I fear holding my gaze too long will cut an eyeball :goldtooth:
You really have grown into the maker of knives any man would be proud to own. St. Judes will certainly benefit from your humble generousity. Yer, right Vance....I can practically guarantee they won't go cheap
That is so beautiful!
Anyone of your knives will be a treasure to work on Jeff, so whatever you send, I will try to make a comparable sheath for.
It will only be about a week to make so late May is fine, I am working mostly on my current orders at this moment that have been delayed so I'm reaching the end. :)
Once these are all made, that's it for me, no more custom orders.
I will be mainly focusing on donating them as you do and after they are finished.
Thank you
Beautiful knives Doc!!
I have one of Jeff's knives now too (Thanks again my friend!) and I gotta tell you people to really start savin' your pennies... his knives will NOT go cheap or easy in the auction!!
OH That's just Great :banghead: :banghead:
Thanks tons JC and Jeremy. Can't ya think of something bad to say ? Like they'll be hard ta sharpen or something. I really don't want to have to sell the $3000.00 CAT to keep biddin on stuff.
What about a piece of nickle on the back end of the handle...maybe a little on the front to match. brass would work too but the nickle would just put it over the top!
*drools* wow, now that's a knife I want to own real bad.
I agree with DarkeGreen..check this one out.. same deal..bone handle, nickle bolster and buttcap.

...or this

Hey Ray, that is a great looking knife; nickle really sets off the bone handle. Please Doc, don't put one like that in the St. Judes auction my budget couldn't stand the strain.
I don't work that much in metal except the blade and I just like steel...osage cap not brass. So for now you won't see any brass (even pins) or nickle from me...I know just picky and stubborn. But heck I don't have any buyers I have to please either :bigsmyl: Doc
Oh Man and Oh Man again. When is this auction taking place?
Dave in Ft. Collins, CO
Don't weaken Doc. What yer doin is PLUMB FINE :notworthy: :notworthy:
They's "TIPPIT CUTTERS" Standard for Excellence
You wouldn't want a $3000.00 House Cat would ya :goldtooth:
Is he Neutered?
Sweet for sure! Great Job!
Great, functional and well balanced look..and feel I'm sure. The file work is once again exceptional.
snakewood3,
Can't wait for our project with the Auction Bow...Doc
"Is he neutered?" Some question comin from a knife maker!!! :scared:
Well he can be if need be, provided I can find a high top boot :scared: :scared:
I haven't done one like that in years...living too close to the city :biglaugh:
4runr,
These blades are surgically sharp...Doc
Finished...

By soaking the crumbly bleached bone with thin CA glue, it can be polished up like marble and all the cracks show for character. Now just one more to finish before choosing the St Judes Tippit/Shell knife.
That one will be called Vance's Generosity! Stay tuned...Doc
She is sweet Jeff...a great design, that looks equally as good as it will perform, I am sure.
That is drop dead gorgeous! :clapper: I love the way the osage grain follows the taper of the handle on the backside. Attention to detail like that, along with the file work and beautiful bone, really sets this one apart.
Whip......Will ya take a second on my Morrison and my Shrew??
OH my, I'm a gonna need a new home and a new WIFE after this all shakes out :scared: :banghead:
Wow, Jeff. Forget the nickel.
Fine looking knife Doc. Looks like it would fit my hand just like a glove.
Ray, We need to try some Zebra :bigsmyl:
And I just found that desert ironwood for ya last night.. I will get that out ASAP. I like the zebra idea..with that flat sheeted grain it should be striking for you.
I told the bowyer to save me any scraps for knife scales.
Wow great work. I can not wait for the auction. I got a new job so everyone will have to step up their game and break piggy banks to beat me. :bigsmyl: ;) :jumper:
Donald
Awesome Jeff! And I agree with the character of the cracks too.
Down right beeeeutiful!!!
Whip,
Glad you noticed that grain pattern...but then again I've seen pictures of your wood shop. So no surprise!
Ray,
Pete & I will have a whole lot of that Zebra if you need to match that bow with some steel :)
JC,
The ugly weather beaten bone comes out the prettiest.
Ray,
PS: It should be striking for you. Can't wait to see it along side an African critter.
