Title: Did I just screw up??
Post by: Butts on April 20, 2007, 06:06:00 PM
I was filing string nocks on my osage self bow and filed a groove across the back of the bow to connect each side. Is this going to split at the ends? Should I fill them in and add overlays?

Thanks, Chris

First it depends on how deep you cut the string groove accross the back of the limb. If you didn't go too deep then You don't need to fill them in. But I would install tip overlays on both limbs. You can use wood, Antler material, Horn, F/G, Myself I use a combination of Woods and F/G on all My Bows that I build. This way I can use any type of string Material....ONE SHOT...  :D    :D    :)    :)

If you violated the the rings on the back, I would fill and add the overlays. may not be needed if the bow is low weight draw ie (40#).

dont take a chance, go with overlays, plus they look good. loyd
