My Dad gave me a great B-day present for my 30th birthday, a wheel grinder with a paper wheel. I had heard that they were the best for sharpening, and after last night, I am a believer. I took my Grizzly El Grande and got them sharp enough to shave my face in about 1-2 minutes! Same with Zwickey Deltas, Phantoms, even my wifes kitchen knives. Any of you have a bench grinder, look into getting a paper wheel, and youre sharpening woes will be over.

As far as I know, any place you can buy a grinder will sell the paper wheel. I just cant believe how easy it was to sharpen whatever I wanted with it. Works like a charm. Birthday was a few weeks ago, but thanks.

Will it work on any grinder or should it be a slow rpm grinder?

I think they recommend over 5500 RPM...dont buy the really cheap grinder at HD or Lowes...its got to be a moderate to great quality to really get the job done.
I think the one I have is a Ryobi, wasnt cheap but does get the job done.

Something and old boat building carpenter told me one time about sharpening chisels and other tools was this.....if you use a stone it takes longer, but the edge lasts longer. if you use a buffing wheel with jeweler's rouge, or a paper wheel, you can put a razor edge on much quicker, but it wont last near as long.....it just sharpens the very tip of the edge, instead of feathering, or tapering it out....Like a hollow ground blade Will hold an edge longer than a bevel edge......Food for thought.....
Well a broadhead only has to hold an edge for cutting about 12 inches. :) I started useing the paper wheels last year and love it.It took a bit of learning to get the results I wanted on my Simmons heads but now getting a half dozen ready for a quiver is fast and effortless.I bought a variable speed grinder from Sears for my wheels.A small one with the 6" wheels works fine.Make sure you buy wheels matched to the shaft size for the pne you plan on using.
My black and decker bench grinder from Lowes has done great for years. About all I use it for is sharpening with paper wheels.
Too bad there isn't a set up to do three blade heads. DO NOT TRY IT on your wheels. One milisecond of contact of cutting edge into the spin will send the broadhead away at high speed. Who knows where it will end up!
I know...... it was the result of too little sleep and power tools.
Hey guys, just wondering if any of you could post pics of how you are using these wheels, such as angles that you are sharperning etc... It would be helpful to me at least if someone could.
One thing to remember...nice system, but easy to heat up blade...go slow, keep it cool.
I use the paper wheel and glue my own cabide grinding compound to the wheel. Also use a paper wheel to do my polishing on all my wood chisels for carving. They do a fine job.

James, on those Simmons Heads how does the wheel work on the Simmons BH when compared to using the Simmons sharpener?
