I finally did it!! I harvested a big gobbler with trad gear. After work yesterday, I ran home and grabbed the gear heading for the woods, hoping that I could catch a tom on the way to the roost. I got in the blind at about four oclock and settled in for the evening. After about five minutes, I heard a turkey putting very nervously and saw the hen on the edge of the woods about sixty yards away moving away from me. I noticed movement to my left as a bobcat walked five feet from the blind. After the cat moved off down the creek, I noticed several more hens and one jake moving my way. The slowly fed towards my decoy and at under ten yards I drew and released on the jake. Only problem was the bottom limb of my recurve caught my leg and sent the arrow over the jake's back and sent them running taking my hopes with them. About thirty minutes passed and I decided I would call one more time then call it an evening. I made one series of yelps and put my call away. As I stood up in the blind to zip my hunting pack I looked out and saw nine turkeys at about forty yards running towards my decoy. I dropped to my knees, knocked an arrow and readied for the shot. The first bird in was a jake who ran up to the decoy and knocked it over. As the second bird entered my window I noticed he was a big gobbler. As he turned away, I drew, released and watched my arrow disappear into in his back. The big tom jumped and flew about ten yards then walked about thirty. I kept replaying the shot over and over until I noticed him wobble a couple times and then tip over. I sat in my blind for about ten minutes watching him through binos and thanking the man upstairs for giving me the opportunity to harvest such a beautiful animal. This is going to be a year I remember for a long time. My first child is due in eight days and I harvested my first turkey with trad gear. I'm hooked for life. Sorry the thread is so long, I get excited!!

I'm still trying to figure this picture thing out.
Thats awesome man was it a natural blind or pop up? Again that is awesome glad it worked for you.
It was a pop up. I don't even know the name of the blind. The cheap one they sell at Cabelas.
Congrats, twosheds!! That's awesome ,man!!
Way to go twosheds! Don't it feel great?
I've got a kink in my neck now though. :)

Awsome, congratulations! i'll be trying for my first turkey with a recurve this year too. good shooting-
Congrats on the bird...and on your first child! Looks like somebody's having a pretty good year!!
Yep, the best. After hearing how hard turkey's are to hunt, my wife told me at the beginning of the season she would let me buy a new recurve if I could harvest a turkey with my old one. Looks like she ate her words.
Fantastic! Great picture. Great story. What an accomplishment!
Awesome, congratulations!
very cool story, cangrats. i too am hoping to be able to put a post like this up sometime in may, your story helps build some confidence thanks for sharing
A BIG congrats TwoSheds,
You are about to experience the only natural high I've found better than harvesting my first turkey and that is the birth of a child.
Doug
Awsome man, congrats and good luck with the baby.

Great bird! Congrats! Now, is that beard RED?
No,LOL. My arrow exited by the beard. It is covered with dry blood.
That was one heck of a night! Two shots and the bobcat at 5 yds. How far was the shot at the tom? Way to go!!!
My hats off to you! What a beautiful gobbler! I'm happy for ya! :archer:
Congrats on the baby and the turk!   Reckon ya called the cat in? My bro called 2 different ones in one year.
That is one of my goals this year is to take a turkey with one of my bows. I have a blind on the way from cabelas now. CANT WAIT! Congrats!
Looks like you're off to a good year with a turkey on the ground and a baby on the way....Congratulations!
Way to go! Man this just gets me pumped up!
That is way cool!! Good Job!!!
Thanks guys. I hope all of your season's are as productive as mine, and your arrow finds that sweet spot. happy hunting.
They can be so frustrating...... and then you've got one in the truck. Been there.
Congrats
Congrats on the turkey, and the baby on the way. If you think you're excited now, wait until you get to hunt with your kids!
Nice work and I too love that smile. I can only imagine how happy you are after 2 days of Jake city myself. The 2 longbeards I saw were very wary of my set-up's and always stayed 40 yards out strutting. Even the Jakes didnt rush in like normal. Sounds like you had an awesome hunt and now have a great memory of that first longbeard. Good luck with your baby too, that's gonna blow your mind. :clapper:
Congrats on a fine looking turkey. The smile tells it all :bigsmyl:
Chort
:clapper: Great Job!!
