Okay guys and gals, I am starting to build my own cedar arrows. Could you post some pics of your arrows to help me with ideas for cresting, staining, etc.? I really don't intend to copy anyone else's designs, just get some ideas for my arrows. I kinda like the ones on the cover of this month's TBH magazine, but they only show the crests. I'd like to see the whole arrow.
Here is what I have done so far on arrow number one:
Stain:

Shaft:

Feathers:

The feathers are what I have on hand (5" shield cut - 2 barred hens and one white cock feather) other than some orange parabolic. These look more trad to me.
Thanks in advance for your help.
here are some arrows i made

I keep all my arrows simple...easy black/silver crest, crown dip with partial florescent dips.

Hmmmmm, I was just looking at the April edition of TBM.....There are a couple arrows with Joe Skipp's crest on the cover.....
This pic does not do these arrows any justice. It is my signature crest design(Forest Green & White) w/ a Green Barred Cock feather. They are made for me by Paul Jalon of Elite Arrows. Best Arrows I have ever shot. (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v319/SteveMcD/MyArrows.jpg)
I'm sure they look even better in person Steve!!!!!
(hint.....hint.....)
Here go to this link
It has 4 pages of arrows i have made over the last couple of years since I got into making arrows.
Enjoy

Chuck.. those beauties are already suited up for hunting. Six w/ 125 gr Magnus 2 Blade, and six with 125 gr Vented Magnus 2 Blade w/ Bleeders!
Yes.. we need to do some shootin' Bud!
Wow! Thanks guys.
Joe, I like the simple design too since mine are going to be hunting arrows primarily. I am debating whether to invest in the reflective wraps or just using white or yellow on the crown. Most of the time finding them isn't hard unless they don't make it all the way through but drop out after a few jumps.
I'll post more pics when I finally get one finished. I hate waiting for the varnish to dry! :banghead:
Okay,
Here is my first.

That's sharp lookin' 3D! Nice!
i like this osage arrow. not really hard to make, just alot of scraping. 925 grains with the field point.

besides them being pretty and the fun and probably sometimes agony of making your own.And knowing what you have how does the cost compare to a good set?
Geno,
A good set of what? If you mean a good set of cedar arrows, then you can build them much cheaper than commercial wooden arrows. There may be places you could buy cheaper carbon or aluminum arrows, but not necessarily good ones.
If you don't count your time as part of the cost, because you are having fun, then the cost of fletched shafts is pretty low. Field points, judo tips, broadheads all add cost, but that is the case with any arrow. A fletched cedar shaft with a nock will probably cost under $3. Depending on where and how many and what color feathers you buy, you could push $3.50.
I shoot better with cedar arrows for some reason, so the cost is worth every penny, not to mention the addictive nature of arrow building.
A pretty arrow will ALWAY shoot better. :goldtooth:
It's a great feeling building a "pretty" wood arrow, watching them fly, and hitting their mark.
I get great satisfaction and pride when I harvest or someone else harvests an animal with an arrow I built.
Here's my hunting arrows! And my webpage!

For turkey hunting I like an arrow that will blend in, in other words almost invisible to the intended prey...like a Shadow or a Ghost  http://www.shrewbows.com/

Ron, you and Paul are going to have to stop comming up with all these arrows. I am going to go broke trying to keep up. :banghead: :banghead:
